Funny how the SWAC announces their All-Conference teams before the completion of the season. There is still one more ball game this weekend (Grambling vs Alcorn St, http://www.swac.org/05-06/football/reports/wk14preview.htm) in the regular season. A bit contradictory of what one Grambling fan said on this board:

So with that said, why bother to nominate him if you are not going to judge him on a complete season?

Why bother announcing an all-SWAC team this early if you are not going to judge them on the complete regular season? Does any other league do this? Congrats to all the winners. Hopefully my two locals (PVAMU and TxSO) will get more guys named in the future as they try to return their programs to competive levels.

All-SWAC honorees
The SWAC released its All-Conference teams Tuesday, and Prairie View and Texas Southern were represented, although in small numbers.

Panthers sophomore defensive back Hakeem Muhammad was named Newcomer of the Year after totaling 49 tackles (32 solos, one sack) and a league-leading five interceptions on the season.

Muhammad also made the All-SWAC second team, where he was joined on defense by junior punter Eric Hernandez.

Meanwhile, the Tigers also landed two selections in sophomore running back Brent Wilson (first team) and junior linebacker Robert Napier (second team).

Grambling State had the most players selected (11), including four on the first team led by senior quarterback Bruce Eugene. Not by coincidence, Eugene was chosen conference Player of the Week for his 418-yard passing efforts and a game-high six touchdowns in Saturday's Bayou Classic against Southern. He also earned MVP honors for the game.

What about the regular season finale? I feel bad for players that potentially got squeezed out due to a lack of a regular season finale. Just think if some border-line player had a huge game against SWAC giant, Grambling...
