Many of those guys would be "small uglies". Then again, it is the Big Sky. The young guys are smaller, that would indicate a shift to more motion up front. Changes at Montana?

All the starters are over 300 and over 6'5" with the exception of the center (who is a brick house and a good size for a center). Those tackles are towers!

Look at the right side & the frosh LT. I am talking about the size difference by class. Just wondering if there is going to be a shift in offensive style up front? More height & speed ...less weight.

I also saw a big change at YSU. Smaller by class. However, word has it that coach Heacock is taking over the defense. This is great news if true. Here are the fronts:

78 Tyler Booth OT 6-6 315 Sr. New Philadelphia, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley
66 Nhemie Theodore OT 6-3 315 Sr. Irvington, N.J./Minnesota/Irvington
75 Chris Gammon OT 6-3 295 So. Akron, Ohio/East
69 Andy Kowicki OT 6-5 275 Fr. Parma, Ohio/Normandy

71 Kyle Brown OG 6-3 315 So. Lisbon, Ohio/Beaver Local
73 Justin Rechichar OG 6-3 310 So. Jeannette, Pa./Hempfield Area
64 Eric Rodemoyer OG 6-2 310 So. Sharon, Pa./West Virginia/Kennedy Catholic
68 Bill Dugan OG 6-5 310 Fr. Poland, Ohio/Poland
76 Bobby Coates OG 6-4 300 So. Canton, Ohio/Glen Oak
63 Corbin Williamson OG 6-4 285 Fr. Suwanee, Ga./Hargrave Military/Atlanta
62 Tyler Figueroa OG 6-4 280 So. Reedsville, Wis./Valders
74 Greg Sazdanoff OG 6-3 270 RFr. Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield
61 Rob Fernback OG 6-1 265 So. Boardman, Ohio/Boardman
77 D.J. Main OG 6-5 270 Fr. Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville

67 Brad Samsa C 6-3 290 Sr. Warren, Ohio/Howland

98 Bobby Lykes-Knight DT 6-0 310 Sr. Cleveland, Ohio/Bowling Green/Cleveland JFK
93 Joe Marshall DT 6-2 315 Fr. Clearwater, Fla./Clearwater
96 Mychal Savage DT 6-2 305 Sr. Hartsdale, N.Y./Hargrave Military/New Rochelle
94 Torrance Nicholson DT 6-3 300 So. Columbus, Ohio/Marion Franklin
91 Brad Miller DT 6-2 285 RFr. Elyria, Ohio/Elyria
90 Crispin Fernandez DT 5-10 270 Jr. Porterville, Calif./Bakersfield/Monache
97 Roger Gillum DT 6-2 270 Jr. Liberty, Ohio/Liberty

I think YSU is short at OT. Two of those 300+ are gone. I suspect Rodemoyer and Coates to shift over
to OT. However, Coates is also the back-up snapper, which graduates as well. I think White (recruit
below) may see action as a frosh if we do not pick up one more big man up front. Colerain is a premier
Ohio program, he could be ready with a good summer.

Notice the recruits below. See how they are still even smaller on the D side? Granted they will grow,
but not that much. I suspect these two are going to shift over to DE, that is just too small
for the middle in the GFC/MVFC.

Theo Barnes DL 6-3 240 Akron, Ohio Archbishop Hoban
Fred Herdman DL 6-4 250 Scottsdale, Ariz. Pinnacle

Brandon White OL 6-5 310 Cincinnati, Ohio Colerain

our o-linemen are usually average size. i'd rather have linemen (especially the tackles) with great feet than great size. FCS d-linemen are usually smaller anyway, so quickness is more important than size (see: Montana vs. Lawrence Sidbury from Richmond). just an example, don't get all pissed off, Grizzlies fans.

Furman's OL is not the biggest but are usually pretty nasty. The young guys are very athletic.

Center
Daniel Spisak 6-1, 250 So (played backup as a true freshman, ready to start)
Dustin Chancellor 6-3, 271 Sr (hasn't played a full year in 3 years, very talented)
Ryan Storms 6-2, 255 Fr (this cowboy should redshirt)

Guard
Heath Cockburn 6-1, 282 Sr (3 year starter All SoCon performer)
Tyler Haynes 6-2, 271 Sr (3 year starter All SoCon performer)
Will Landers 6-3, 263 Sr (good enough to start, team player)
Nic Ayoob 6-3, 288 Jr (strong player)
Jordan Eshelman 6-2, 254 So
Will White 6-3, 300 R-Fr

Tackle
Antonio Frazier 6-4, 274 Jr (now's his time, very impressive physically)
Ryan Lee 6-4, 265 So (played a lot of snaps backing up Bell, very athletic played up man on KO)
McKenzy Opio 6-3, 295 So
David Barrington 6-3, 248 So.
Matt Blades 6-6, 275 R-Fr (huge upside, beat Air Force for Blades)

That was discussed all year how our big guys had great run blocking and poor pass blocking technique. That's coaching and we corrected that hopefully. The new O-Line coach had some of the best pass blocking lines ever when he was at Montana.

By the way, did anyone stop Sidbury all year? Not! xlolx

Just a guess at Cal Poly's:

RT: Art Munoz - 6'2" 275 Jr (returning starter)
RG: Will Mitchell - 6'1" 285 Jr (two year starter)
OC: Jason Cox - 6'0" 260 Jr (two year starter)
LG: Maurice McClure - 6'2" 275 So (started last four games)
LT: Scott Winnewisser - 6'5" 255 So or Matt Bertole - 6'3" 255 Rfr

I wouldn't call JMU's 08' o-line
6'4", 300
6'3", 325
6'3" 285
6'3" 285
6'4" 325
an avg about 6'3 1/2", 304. I wouldn't call 325 lb "avg". And JMU has had bigger than that in the last 5 years. Corey Davis who started 03-06' at tackle was listed as heavy as 360. In 05' JMUs 2 starting tackles were listed at 6'4" 360 and 6'7" 330. Hardly 'average'.

Here are a few of my favorite O-line action picture from 2008 (Maurice McClure against Weber State and Cal Poly Offensive against Wisconsin):

Native
March 15th, 2009, 11:18 PM
Weber's losses on the O-Line include all All-American and Big-Sky senior tackle Paul Carpenter and starting senior guard Lawaia Naihe. :(

But as Coach Mcbride says, "My number one recruiting priority when I took this job in 2005 was to establish strength and depth on the offensive and defensive lines, and that’s still my priority. Those two areas are where games are won and lost." said McBride. "We’ve got good groups in both of those areas, now we are making sure we kept depth. You can never have too many linemen." xthumbsupx

Mac should know. He has sent five linemen to the NFL, including two all-Pros from Utah, Luther Eliss (Detroit DT) and Jordan Gross (Carolina RT, LT), and three O-Linemen from Weber State: Pat and Paul McQuiston (Dallas, Oakland) and David Hale (Baltimore).xnodx

Returning starters for 2009 include first team all-Big Sky center Kyle Mutcher (6-3, 295), Honorable mention all-Big Sky right guard J.C. Oram (6-4, 295) and right tackle Zac Carlson (6-4, 300). xsmiley_wix

Returnees Nestor Cruz (6-4, 290), Tim Farrabee (6-5-280) and Jared Wilcox (6-5, 290) all saw significant playing time in 2008, as did backup center and left guard Cameron Malifua (6-1, 280). xnodx

Redshirts Brett Jividen (6-5, 260), Garrett Freitas (6-6, 310) and Caleb Turner (6-4, 265) should have bulked up over the past year since these stats were published, and will most likely compete for starting positions. xthumbsupx

2009 HS Senior O-Line Signees:

Darren Denucci (6-5, 250),
Jared Goody (6-5, 260) and
Shane Oliverson (6-3, 240)

Russell Piette, 6-4, 300 lbs

Very possible changes in schemes with more option and a spreading the ball out more. New coach, new lineman, and QB battle. All our QBS are solid running.
Selle is more of pocket passer. Meanwhile Kemp and Larson are versatile and better than average running qbs. Kemp is fast and elusive. I have heard anything from 4.4 to 4.6 speed, but who knows what is true?

Returning Starter
67 Zach Posey Sr. 6-2 282 OG

We graduated 4 starters from the O-Line, including a pair of 300 lb-ers (Nick Hennessey and Steve Jonas)

Returning from the 2-Deep (last game)
51 Ryan Gross Sr. 6-3 267 C
62 Andrew Woizesko Jr. 6-1 288 OL
68 Rob Budny Sr. 6-2 271 C
61 Brian Merrifield So. 6-3 266 OT

Just based on the list, I'd say Gross, Budny and Merrifield will likely step up into the starting roles. Woizesko backed up Posey at LG, and LT is the spot we're looking to fill

Other Returnees
65 Greg Kafaf So. 6-0 272 OL
69 Kevin Morgan So. 6-0 265 OL
70 Will Elmore So. 6-3 284 OL
71 Kyle Poinsett Sr. 6-3 300 OT
73 Johnathan Muhammad Jr. 6-3 253 OT
76 Zack Szabo Jr. 6-4 254 OL
77 James Germano Jr. 6-3 296 OL
79 Vittorio Ottanelli So. 6-4 309 OL

My guess is that Poinsett fills in that LT position, but we'll probably know more once Spring Practice rolls around (or at least, if/when they release the Spring Prospectus). Ottanelli will probably make his way onto the depth chart. Some of those listed as Sophmores may not have remained with the team (basic attrition)

Incoming Freshmen
Harlan Abeshouse OL 6-2 280
Craig Capodiferro OL 6-6 285
Brian Crockett OL 6-3 285
Ryan Freeman OL 6-3 260
Blake McCroskey OL 6-5 295
Ryan Risch OL 6-6 280

I like the size of some of these kids. As Freshmen, they'll be hard-pressed to jump on the depth chart, but just looking at their sizes, I'd say Capodiferro and McCroskey could make a play for it
