Hey everyone! It's time for that fun game we love to play in the first round known as PICK....YOUR.....ATTENDANCE!

That's right. As we all know, due to the Thanksgiving weekend, attendance for the first round games will be lower than the average for the home team from the regular season. So the question is, What's the Number Gonna Be?

Avg. Attendance for the 8 home teams this season (numbers from NCAA Stat Page):
Montana 23,532
Appalachian State 23,169
Texas State 12,518
Furman 12,207
Northern Iowa 11,108
Hampton 8,842
New Hampshire 7,004
Eastern Illinois 6,840

My guess is we'll be in the 10-11k range in Boone this weekend. If we win though, I expect nothing less than 22k+ for the rest of our home games, however many that may be.

I don't expect ASU to slack-off much in attendance.. seems like they really care and know their football. 20,000 - less students

You may be right but I think I would stay with B&G's prediction. People go home for the holidays and Boone is really not that many people's home after they get out of school. :)

FWIW The field according to the remote cam on goasu.com looks like 1 to 3 inches of snow.

Some guy was griping that the cam needs straightening. Guess he hasn't figured out yet that it is that way to avoid broadcasting ASU practices to opposing teams.

With probably 2-3 thousand Saluki fans travelling to Charleston, the guess for attendance at saturday's game is 5,500 with SIU getting more people to the game than the Panther fans. We got hozed on the home game. We outbid Eastern, but because our facilities suck, (and they do) they gave the game to EIU.

If it actually rains, then we will be lucky to get 5,000 to show up. If it doesn't then 10,000 would be about the right number.

Pace at the Ticket Office in Cedar Falls has been pretty brisk for two days. I think we will get a few more than some think. I will say 12,469!

How well will Eastern Washington Travel? When Montana St. was here they probably had 300-400 make the trip!

Colgate @ UNH a little over 4000 if we're lucky.

The game being on ESPN hurts UNH attendance, most will opt to stay home and watch the game. Freezing cold weather and probably rain will keep our fair weather fans at home as well. Fortunately for the Wildcats the hockey game was moved to Sunday for attendance purposes...otherwise we'd be around 2000.

I think Montana is the only one that might get close to that number if they host in the second round or semis. UD has no problem selling out regular season games, but playoffs just don't do as well. That seems to be the case almost everywhere.

According to the Weather Channel, we're looking at partly cloudy and a high of 36 on Saturday. No rain in the forecast nor hardly freezing by NH standards on Saturday. ESPN will keep some at home, but I'm still thinking we have SRO.

Playoff attendance suffers in most venues for many reasons including that students have to pay, holiday season, colder weather in most locations, and short notice of scheduled game. ASU has never had more than 10,000 of its fans to a home playoff game before. Only once has ASU exceeded 10k overall (in 1987 against Marshall) but Marshall fans contributed greatly to that total. If we beat Lafayette on Saturday, don't expect next week's crowd to come close to 20k either. Wouldn't mind being wrong about this playoff year's attendance predictions though! I'm predicting a first round "record" of 10,300 against Lafayette on Saturday.

According to an article in the Union Leader (Manchester, NH), they had sold 5.5K tickets by late afternoon Wednesday! A person at the basketball game last night told me that 6K had been sold. No doubt a fair number will be sold on Friday and I'm sure there will be a good walk up business on Saturday.

All I know is that I'll be leaving CT earlier on Saturday morning than I ever have for a football game at UNH!!!! While it would be easier to just watch it on TV, I'd much prefer to watch in person and to support my alma mater and the football program!

Yes it will look like there is more than reported. That's because most of us will be in our winter clothes which makes us 6 inches wider all the way around. Not just from winter jackets but from all the thermoses stuffed in arm sleves, inside pockets, boots! :) (When in winter ware we tend to spread out and take about 1 1/2 seat per person. At least our group does! :)

I think the reported attendance from our play-off game with them in Charleston a couple of years ago was like 7,000. It looked more like 3,000 and 1,500 of them were wearing purple.

Agree....poor attendance. That is what shocks me by the committee giving EIU a home game.

I thought the buildings on EIU's campus were awesome. Many looked like old churches.....reminding me a little bit of Duke's campus with the design.

I also enjoyed being heckled by the local college kids.....saying, "Hey you gonna be cheering for the BLUE or Purple Panthers today?".......then really giving it to ya......

Apparently EIU doesn't report their attendance. According to the SIU athletic website's recap they had about 5000 fans, over half of them to be SIU fans.

I don't know if this is the norm for EIU, but this is a bad showing for a playoff game.

Edit: I just looked at their website and they have reported attendance for all their other home games. I wonder why they didn't report this one.

yah...texas state's attendance was probably closer to 13,000 or 14,000. it was not as full as the sam houston game, but it was DEFINITELY much larger than 10,000...i'm guessing that the attendance guys only counted the tickets they sold at the gate and not the ones from earlier in the week...just my :twocents:

I was at the game at UNH today and there was, without a doubt, more people today than last Saturday vs. Maine when the attendance was listed as 8.6K! And when I bought my ticket around 10:30 I was told that they only had about 500 tickets left to sell. According to stories in the newspaper, sales were going to be capped at 10K. Hmmmm!

Regardless, Cowell was packed and it was a lot of fun today. Good atmosphere and the snow just seemed appropriate for UNH and Colgate!

I really think they didn't count many students or kids' tickets. They scanned mine but not my grandson's.
No way the stadium had empty seats for 10,000 more. I think they count accurately but don't include student tickets in the figure.
