Hats off to Coach Lamb and the staff. Don't know if anyone thought we'd take in this kind of haul. Many seem to think a good number of these guys will be playing this fall. http://furmanpaladins.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/020409aac.html

Interesting to see the general shift in Furman's football team after installing a new system on both offense and defense last season. On offense, bringing in two quarterbacks that are running threats and a couple big/tall WRs. Still went after and got the tall tightend and big offensive tackles we've come to love.

On defense, focused again on signing tall defensive backs with four over 6'. Also loaded up on defensive tackles and defensive ends, two positions of need.

Just going from memory, this is the tallest class I've seen Furman bring in:

DE: 6-6, 6-5, 6-3, 6-3
DT:6-4, 6-3
S: 6-3, 6-2, 6-0
CB: 6-0, 5-11 (this is another tall class of DB's for Furman)

OL: 6-6, 6-5, 6-2
WR: 6-4, 6-3, 5-11, 5-11
TE: 6-4

It wasn't but two years ago, I think, that Furman had two starting corners who were 5'6. William Middleton, arguably the SoCon's best defensive back in 2008, is only 5'9.

Furman signee Matt Solomon is also the AAAA defensive player of the year in Georgia. Can't get terribly much better than that. http://www.fayettedailynews.com/article.php?id_news=2959

We'll see. There are a couple good names/high schools in there. Certainly, the 6'7kid is tall, but how many good 6'7 receivers you know that are out there? I can think of zero.

see THAT is the info i'm talking about. forget how many stars a guy has, rivals.com, all that BS. THAT is a good nugget. if you're defensive player of the year at a AAAA school, ESPECIALLY in Georgia, that is REALLY, REALLY impressive.

congrats. will he redshirt?

Not sure. Both our starting linebackers were lost to graduation. There are certainly going to be a number of this group who will be on the field in the fall.

Solomon really stuck out to me. He lead a AAAA team that went 10-0 in the regular season in a difficult metro-Atlanta region. He won defensive player of the year in the region. Won defensive player of the year in the state.

He's not a big guy, especially as a linebacker. However, I would so much rather have a guy with less "measurables" who played winning football than a guy with an outstanding 40 time and a beast of an athlete who played on a bad team. True, you can't coach speed, but you also can't coach a winner's mentality. I'll take an undersized guy with a nose for the ball and a running motor any day.
