We really picked up some tall receivers in this class. Evidently, Laron Scott was rated #26 out of the top 100 Community College prospects of 2009.

By my count, there's one four star, one three star and a bunch of two star kids in this class. Fact is that some of the kids who are not rated by any recruiting service turn out to be terrific players. I can't tell you how many All-Americans GSU has had that came to Statesboro as walkons. It's a big number.

One more thing. GSU lost some pretty good kids who were only offered partial scholarships to FCS schools who offered them full rides. It's tough to lose good players that way, but at the FCS level, there just arent that many full rides available.

Laron Scott was ranked #26 on the top 100 Community College football players transferring this year, but he only held offers from Sam Houston State, Eastern Michigan, GSU, and had an interest in Houston but no offer. It's really perplexing how he is rated so high and so many of those other guys are going to big time programs, yet he didn't even get an offer from Houston.

One of the receivers is 6' 7"???? WOW! Good luck to the 5' 7" DB's in the conference. ;)

Not to mention the 6' 6" DE...

Didn't GSU sign the NCAA maximum 30 players? How many do you think you need?

We are still recovering from 3 coaching changes in 3years. I think we will have 1 more huge class then back to "normal" numbers. Plus we lost 13 sr's and a few others for various reasons.

GSU signed 30 last year too.

The sheer numbers they've had to bring in in the last two years is proof- well on top of the mediocre records- of what Hatcher inherited when he took over the program.

Somebody had a post on the GSU boards detailing the signees who were still in the program from the 2005-2006 classes (Sewaks last year and the Van Gonad debacle) and there were only a handful of players from those two years combined still in the program. Add to that VanGonad quitting less than 2 weeks before signing day in 2007, which left hatcher holding the bag somewhat, coupled with the APR mess he inherited, and you can easily see why the huge classes were necessary in 2008-2009.

The fact that Hatcher has been as competitive as he has and fashioned winning records given that backdrop is pretty impressive. I seriously doubt there are many FCS programs that could endure that kind of turmoil and ineptitude and have only one losing record playing in such a tough conference.

Hatcher stated in a signing day interview that GSU played 37- that's not a typo, 37- freshmen last of whom 22 started at one time or another.

GSU will be young again this year, has a brutal road schedule, and a number of the new signees will be baptized by fire. However, you'd better get them this year because by 2010-beyond all this young talent and depth will be seasoned and will be tough to handle.

There's a player that I think plays for App that was a no star rating out of HS...

I think his name is Armanti Edwards??

Just goes to show its not about the ratings, but finding the players that fit into the system..

GREAT recruiting class by GSU.. well done Hatcher

By the way, remember that discussion that we had on the thread about Satterfield leaving App. State? Still think the top FCS programs can only take at most two or three recruits away from lower-tier FBS schools? Western has more than that. Not trying to be a smart-a**, just saying.

Now if we look at the 6 years before that, GSU has 1 national championship, one 3rd place finish, two top 10, and 1 other top 25 places.... and still ZERO top 25 finishes for The Citadel....

Citdog,
I've been reading this board for a long time and I can't recall a more vulgar, racist, anti-Christian person than you! Usually I pass by individuals like you but I guess my will power broke down tonight.
I pray that the Holy Spirit will change you from the inside out. If you want to know what kind of person someone is then you only have to listen to what spews from the mouth.
I'm praying for you!

Citdog,
Just because you are a Jew doesn't make you a Chrustian. In Romans 9:6 Paul says " But it is not though the word of God has failed. For they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel."
In other words, you may be Jewish because of your earthly and sinful lineage, but unless you're born again by faith in Jesus Christ you are not of the Father.
Either way, Citdog, it's my grandest hope that you pray and ask for forgiveness. I'm not just speaking because of some profanities you uttered here on this board but rather because I've felt led to speak to you. My words are mere words. It takes the Holy Spirit to make a change in your heart.
I may be spitting into the wind and you may call me a bunch of other profanity laced names but hopefully, over time, you will seek His presence in your life.
I promise that I wont respond to anymore of your replies but I do hope to see you one day, IN HEAVEN.

I love it when Citdog calls us Yankee Scum! I have to resent that remark considering my family sailed up the Savannah River and settled there in 1734. You can call me scum, but Yankee is a bit of a stretch there ...dog.

cit dog comes on here to vent his frustrations. Imagine how you would feel after spending your day out on the lot trying to sell station wagons and lebarons. Id be pissed off too. Its a shame that someone who went to security guard college can let themselves go this far.

your sophomoric attempt at humor is noted. and i fart in your general direction. we only sell quality products to individuals who have the ability to pay......that's why you've got a bus pass. this "security guard" is sorry he ever put on a uniform and put his life on the line to defend douches like you who don't derseve nor appreicate it.

Yes, but you should be appreciative that GaSo is doing so much recruiting......it cuts down on the prison costs and population when they get done.

Seeing the players we got and who was also after them, I'd say the recruits see the same thing, too.

http://www.feministe.us/blog/archives/2006/08/25/rape-at-the-citadel/

In the academies’ surveys, 262 of the 1,906 women surveyed, or about 14 percent, reported one or more incidents of sexual assault. At The Citadel, 22 women, or about 19 percent, reported one or more incidents of sexual assault. Last year, 118 women attended The Citadel.
