Ok all,

I have run across something that has been bothering me for awhile. I found my own answer, but need y'alls verification.

On Aug 29, 2009 Idaho St (http://isubengals.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/012209aaa.html) (scroll to the bottom of the article) is scheduled to play Montana Western (http://www.umwestern.edu/athletics/football/page2.htm) in a game.

My question is this: I've gone over the NCAA handbook several times, and it clearly states that for FCS/FBS teams, the first date that a football game can be scheduled is the Thursday preceeding Labor Day weekend (Sep 3 this year). So how can this game be scheduled for said date?

I emailed the ISU site asking for clarification, no response. I can only assume they are too busy to answer, don't care, or don't know.

Any response would be appreciated.

They probably asked for, and received, a waiver from the NCAA. Fairly common.

A very straight-forward answer, thank you.

And there's the thing I learned today, as I had no idea this was something that could be waiverable.

NO
They cannot play on that date.
That would waste a whole column on all my spreadsheets.
