By Chuck Burton, The CSN Way Columnist

The playoffs last weekend featured defense, rematches, and revenge - plotlines so perfect you wonder if they were scripted by Hollywood. But it’s the game that had the largest margin of victory that has people still buzzing - or web-crawling, if you will.

Richmond wasn’t given much of a chance in Boone, North Carolina against the three-time defending national champions last week by many folks outside of Virginia. But their 33-13 demolition of Appalachian State was more than just spinning the first playoff victory in Kidd Brewer stadium for anyone other than the Mountaineers since 2002.

In this last weekend before the Division I national championship, featuring the SWAC Championship game and “Football’s Final Four", the Spider victory was a statement to the rest of FCS that this Richmond team is ready for Chattanooga.

Chuck makes his picks and analysis of the SWAC Championship game and the playoff semifinals matchups! xthumbsupx

Yes, technically the 13-1 Grizzles weren’t the Big Sky champions at the end of the regular season. :( xsmhx
sigh. Yes, technically the 13-1 Grizzles were the Big Sky champions at the end of the regular season.

seriously, it isn't that hard - co-champions. each will be listed as BSC champions. Each will get a BSC Champion trophy. Each will get BSC champion rings. Montana is the BSC 2008 football Champions - just like Weber State is.

As a general rule, east coast writers/fans WILL disparage Montana or any other western team they perceive as a threat to their domination of FCS, given the opportunity. xnodx xcoffeex

Richmond (5-2 CAA, 8-3 overall)
Games Remaining: at William & Mary (7-3)

Technically, they should be on the bubble, requiring a win this weekend to get a postseason berth. But even if they slip up against William & Mary they still could be considered a playoff-caliber team with a 8-4 record and 8 D-I wins, including ones over Elon, Maine and UMass. The Spiders will not want to leave anything to chance: win this weekend, and they’ll be guaranteed a spot at the table.

That doesn't sound like "don't belong in the playoffs" to me.

Later on in the same article, he projects Elon & W&M in, and Richmond out.

Just as he did the week before.
And the week before that.
And the week before that, and so on.....

He predicted the Spiders would get squashed at UMass and lose to William & Mary.

And every week, even though the Spiders spanked Elon @ their house, he thought Elon deserved a bid over UR.
