Ok, since my team's season has been over for quite some while--I have to take joy and pride in other things. Sooooo, I am making a bold claim. I feel that my alma mater, The Citadel, has the best looking unis in the FCS. If you think otherwise, state your claim and pics!!!!

I like the design of Furman's, but the purple kills it. :D It looks like the Ole' Miss jersey, which I like. I like classic jerseys. I have one of the game worn (by that player who shall not be named--#26) that ASU wore when I was in school (99-03). The throwbacks worn this year (based on the 89 jerseys( were sweet, but they didn't look that nice in 89. Remember the short jerseys back in the day. xnodx

Overall, I'd probably go with GSU because they remind me of Penn State's and I think PSU have the best in college football.

We could do a mix, like we did when I was in school. We used to wear black jerseys and white pants, and go all black on Black Saturday. We could do the black with gold and on Black Saturday go all black. See, we can compromise xthumbsupx. Wofford.....classic!

Yeah, I like Wofford's simple uniforms. No embelishment, no crazy pointy stripes, just classic. Of course the colors make it easier for me. IMO old gold and black looks great together. App State wore the old gold helmets with no stripes way back in 1970. Funny, App State's practice uniforms look almost identical to Wofford's game unis except for the helmet color.

Having said that, I guess App State's all black can look somewhat intimidating at The Rock. White jerseys and black pants look great on the jumbotron in Ann Arbor and on the cover of S.I.

I don't like our all white uniforms at all!

I'd say the ones we last wore in 2006 were one of the best, but I don't care too much for our current uniforms.

I've got a Colt Anderson Jersey on the new style, and it looks cool and all, but they could have done so much better. Mostly by not changing them in the first place.

Affirmative. Fritz Crisler invented the winged helmet design at Princeton in 1935 to help his QB identify his receivers back when all the unis looked the same. Unfortunately, this design did not help Delaware QBs find any receiver in 2008:

I count 11 changes for them since I-AA started including going from orange to white to black to white again. xnonono2x It's bad enough to make logo changes, but to change the color of the helmet is a BIG no-no in my book. xnonox

Sorry Citadel, anyone who dresses like the Tarholes is out of the mix - Ga Southern and Wofford are just too plain for me - of the teams I have seen in the last few years I would say Eastern Wash as they have that very unique logo, the Elon home uniform is nice, Liked the W&M green on gold, the APP all black at home is so perfect for The Rock and as much as I hate to say this, Furman has the classic uni - two matching strips on the pants, jersey and helmet - there I said it - Ughhhhhhhhhhh!

I know they're not FCS any more, but Idaho's idea to put a logo across their bungholes (White "I" w/ script VANDALS) has to go down as one of the worst ideas ever. It only lasted a couple of games before the coach ordered that the team would never wear them again:

Impossible to just pick one best uni. FAMU's are sweet. So are Montana's. And the Citadel with the silver helmet are cool. I also like 'Nova's. And Texas State, with the maroon jerseys/white pants/gold helmet combo. And Furman. And Southern Illinois.

What I dislike is teams that have no logo/emblem/design/stripes on their helmets. How can a team have nothing on the helmet??? This isn't high school. Put something on the helmet for petes sake!! LOL

Never understood that. Even Notre Dame, Navy, etc. etc.

Have to go with GSU as my favorites. Like the simplicity and the number on the helmet is a nice touch.

Surprised to see so many positive responses to Apps throwback uni's. Hate that "gold" and therefore hate those uni's. If it was actual gold like Wofford or Wake Forest it'd be different but it's gotta be either all black or the white and black on the road.

Based on what's been shown in this thread, I particularly like these 5:

Montana (current design)
Furman (Montana's design w/o number outline)
The Citadel (current design, not the freaky silver helmet thing)
EWU (shadowed numbers are usually good)
Villanova (much more interesting than their basketball unis)

I don't get why everyone is so in love with Georgia Southern's (or Penn State's) uniforms. The generic navy blue on white is really dull.

Old school pic from the 1999 Lafayette-Lehigh game.

Those were strange uni's for Lafayette although it seemed like the 'Pards couldn't make up their mind in the late 90's-00's what they wanted. They were basically just the opposite of Lehigh's. I think Lafayette's usual red jersey uni's are the nices in the PL. I'm not sure if i like the late 80's early 90's 'Pard helmet or the current "L" one. Both are real nice

I think Lehigh's uni's would be sweet if they went with a white helmet and just a basic font LEHIGH on the helmet. At the very least they should go back to the old interlocking LU on the helmets. The plain helmets came about in 1995. Riddell or whoever was responsible for the decals forgot to put them on and Lehigh made a decision to go along with the plain domes for Army and then the rest of the year. They won the league and decided to keep it going forward. But since 1995 will be 14 years ago and Lehigh has never had one traditional style i think it's time for a change.

True-- Lafayette used to wear the Silver in much the same manner that Lehigh wears the Gold. I did like the silver overall, but it did bother me it wasnt technically one of our colors. I think the same goes for Lehigh. I think the Brown and Gold looks nice, but it is perhaps time to revert back to the actual school colors. The Black helmets we had for two years was an absolute travesty, and I do think our current uni's are nice but not great. But hey there is only so much that can be done with Maroon & White.

I also remember Lafayette's QB at the time Harry Armstrong. He was a sr. when i was fr. and though i never actually played against him he was one helluva a HS QB. He willed Single A Riverside to the state final in '97. Harry returned to the Vikings a couple years ago as coach and had them #1(A) in the state much of the year this year. Great football guy. He'll be coaching college ball the next couple years.

Harry was one of my close friends in college. I havent spoke to him in a while unfortunantly, but have been following his success at Riverside. Harry coached at John Hopkins for one year and then WPI for a year as well before landing at Riverside. I assume he would desire a college job but I am unsure of his intentions at this point.

I'm quite pleased with our home uniforms, but I've always thought a white jersey looks a bit awkward with any gold or silver helmet. I prefer the script Tribe to the W&M, but the difference isn't too big. At least the football squad is consistent with their color choice; some of the other teams can't figure out whether they're green/gold or green/yellow. Now if only the "gold" paint on the field could be changed to match the uni's....

Why isn't there a "The" before the word Citadel on the helmets and unis? xeekx

The word "The" is located, as most of our logos show, in a smaller font either going through the "C" or placed in the center above "Citadel".

The color is Columbia blue. Funny that your team is blue. I thought the Citadel "men" got ther fill of blue uniforms in the 1860's.

Here is you history on the color ...

"Unlike most Citadel customs and traditions, which have developed over a long period of time, the college colors were chosen in the interest of expediency. In the spring of 1899, Cadet Captain John W. Moore, manager of the baseball team, secured permission to take the team on its first road trip. Prior to that time all athletic contests had been staged locally. As other colleges had colors that were displayed in athletic contests, Cadet Moore and two or three friends decided that blue and white made an appropriate combination; they hastily had pennants made in these colors to take along.

Although born out of necessity, the colors were readily accepted by the Corps and have endured to this day. Symbology: Blue symbolizes the clear sky with unlimited horizons, which foretells of a Citadel cadet's future. White symbolizes purity of thought and actions, honesty and decency - all elements of The Citadel Code, the Honor Code, and the "Whole Person" concept."

Also, here is a link to a NCAA document listing the Blue as "Citadel Blue". https://goomer.ncaa.org/reports/rwservlet?hidden_run_parameters=p_mfb_complete_sch edule&pn_acadyr=2008&pv_division=1&pv_subdivision=2

Lastly, the blue we use closely resembles the original color for the infantry. The Citadel was strictly infantry to begin with and added artillery later before the Civil War. Seems fitting, while we never linked the two, that "Citadel Blue", which does resemble closely with Columbia blue, is one of the colors of the school.

It is hard to find, but not impossible where clothing brands use the term "Citadel Blue" to describe the blue in there clothing and paints. http://www.homeportfolio.com/catalog/Product.jhtml?prodId=32422

Here is an example of a high school ( Naples HS in Naples, FL) that has as nice if not nicer unis than a lot of college teams. It must come down to how much money a program has

Thanks to the Griz poster who showed our old uni's, at the beginning of this thread (first few pages, I think) which I thought were sharp, clean and classic with the minor contrasting stripe. These are the new ones we started using this year (2008) which I find too bland.

If you are at a McNeese game their uni's are "out there". They hurt my eyes. Why do guys find this combo good looking? And GSU - yes, way plain and boring. Give me some contrast here. (see comment about our new ones)

Uni's need not be gregarious to be sharp.

If you are voting on the drabbest and plainest uniforms,,then Ga Southern wins hands down. No imigination,,,no style,,,,just a plain old blue and white. Heck,,,they got all excited when they trotted out the all blue unis this year. You know you are conservative and plain when all blue gets you excited.

We've been trying to fix it, and believe me, we've come a long way. The jerseys used to look BLUE compared to the purple helmets. Problem is, it's hard to match purple paint on a helmet with purple fabric in a jersey. Has a lot to do with the TV you're watching it on too.

Look at Penn State's white helmet on white jersey - ain't the same shade of white either.

Over the years, I've seen a bunch.

I like the Citadel's, but they have too many alternate jerseys and seem to switch helmets or logos every other year.

I have always been a fan of Woffor'd simplicity.

I would like Furman's even if I didn't have a connection. It is a classic look and it does not "look" like anyone else (not even other teams with a similar color scheme in the FBS). The logo is simple and distinct and doesn't suffer from the alaphabetopia with a lot of FCS schools.

A criticism I have of a lot of FCS uniforms is the helmet. Many of them have good looks, but have so much going on on their helmet and logo it is hard to make it distinguishable. I always like simple. I've seen a lot of teams where you honestly cannot tell what all is going on in the logo. With the best college uniforms you can tell what the logo is from 400 yards.
