Out of curiosity I searched the websites of the sixteen teams in this years FCS playoff field. The average enrollment for the sixteen is approx. 12,000undergraduates. Ten of the schools have an undergrad enrollment of over 12,000. The six smallest are:
Maine 9k
Villanova 6.5k
SC State 4.5k
Colgate 2.8k
Richmond 2.7k
Wofford 1.3k

Assuming that each school has a 50/50 male to female ratio I think it speaks well of these smaller schools competing at this level.
