you could make the argument that at this point in the season ASU is hitting its stride and is in fact the best team in the country, you can't say the same about cal poly

I'm not trying to say Cal Poly is the best team in the country, but if you can make the argument for App then you can also make it for CP.

WTF South Dakota?

6-4 with only 1 D1 win? Pisses me off when I see stuff like that. Early in the year North Dakota was getting unnecessary love

No you can't.

1 loss by 2 points, no one has come within 2 TDs since then (week 2), #1 offense in the country, and the defense has been (slowly) improving. If that's not hitting their stride, I don't know what is.

South Dakota even crossing the minds of a voter is absolutely ridiculous, their only D1 win was against Southern Utah. Granted it was at SUU and SUU is much improved from last year, but come on.

I was just messing around with him, seemed like the only thing I could say to that. Of course you can make the argument, I just told him he can't, which is pretty absurd to tell someone they can't argue something. xthumbsupx To be honest you could make the argument about most of the top 10. If you make it about Cal Poly, you have to be able to make the argument for Montana, in which case Weber. I wouldn't mind seeing a comparison of CP, App, and JMU, the 3 teams getting votes, I personally think the argument would look like a silly one after that.

When did i say they weren't hitting their stride? Great point though? I guess those are the requirements to be referred to as "Hitting Ones Stride"

I haven't seen App play, but if you would read above, I'm not saying Poly is better than App. I'm just saying it's not that outlandish to make the argument for CP at #1, and certainly doesn't justify burning at the stake. It might justify a good tarring and feathering though... xrotatehx

I have watched three of the Cal Poly games online. They remind me of the 1997 St Louis Rams. Offense, offense, offense. H3ll, I think the Gatorade guy runs a 4.3 40.

However, the defense is at best average. The pass defense is suspect. UC Davis was carving up that secondary in the first half (I did not get to see the second half, but obviously adjustments were made).

I will be interested to see how they matchup against WISC. Expecting a W for WISC, but I am more interested in watching the matchups to see how WISC attempts to handle the Mustang offensive scheme. It will be interesting to see the clash of styles - timing versus brute force.

They may be a good team, but they have only proved that they are better than the rest of the Big Sky.
Nothing else, yet.

I really don't want to sound like I am hating on Cal Poly, but as we get closer to the playoffs, we should all go back and look at the schedules and the results. I just did for Cal Poly.

Their opponent's combined record? It is 41-55, and 10 of those wins are from Montana.

Cal Poly hitting their stride in the last 3? Well, it was against Idaho State (0-11), NC Central (3-7) and UC Davis (5-6), not exactly the cream of the FCS crop.

They beat who they were supposed to beat, they lost to the only good team they played, and they will likely lose to Wisconsin. Now I am not saying they aren't a good team, personally I think they are very good and they will get to prove it in the playoffs. But I don't think they are even in the same breath as JMU or App. St. right now based on past performance.

Here is their full resume:

Cal Poly Mustangs

Aug 30 - W at San Diego St, 29-27 (1-10)
Sep 6 - L vs. Montana, 28-30 (10-1)
Sep 13 - Cancelled at McNeese State
Sep 20 - W at Northwestern St, 52-18 (6-5)
Oct 4 - W vs. South Dakota, 49-22 (6-4)
Oct 18 - W at South Dakota St, 42-28 (6-5)
Oct 25 - W vs. Southern Utah, 69-41 (4-6)
Nov 1 - W vs. Idaho State, 49-10 (0-11)
Nov 8 - W vs. NC Central, 49-3 (3-7)
Nov 15 - W vs. UC Davis, 51-28 (5-6)
Nov 22 - at Wisconsin, 3:30 PM ET

Opponent’s Record 41-55

xlolx xlolx xlolx

I can see us having this argument five years from now...:D xlolx xlolx xlolx

So in TSN's eyes...if DSU came out next year with an offense that blew away every team in the MEAC by at least three TDs a game. Loss a close game to a pretty good team (ala Hampton against SIU earlier this year.) Then plays a middle of the road, FBS team (Wisconsin) to end the season, would we merit a first place vote??? xconfusedx xeyebrowx

If I made this argument in that situation I would get laughed off this board...xwhistlex

And starting in two weeks, you'll get to show that. xthumbsupx

Just hope that I'm wrong about regionalization forcing their hand, and sending Poly to a ranked Weber St., and win that, likely to Montana.

Would love to see an east coast team sent out to Poly, and play at SLO.

Good Luck with dem Badgers, dontcha know! xlolx xnodx
