SIU leads 28-14 late in the second half....

28-21 now. SDSU offense has scored 21 to SIU's 14. SIU has a kick return for a TD and a 57 yard pick 6. SDSU gave up 30 yards in personal fouls on one of the TD drives. Jacks are outplaying them on offense and holding our own on defense.

As we all knew it would its come down to special teams and a HUGE turnover/pick 6. We gotta stop them here and come out of the half with the ball.

Another fricking personal foul on the Jacks. SIU is about to punch it in and go up 35-21. No excuses, our defense is not up to snuff. You can't give up 35 points in a half. Lame as hell.

35-21 at the half...I like the Salukis in this game. They are going for the jugular at every opportunity.

Gamecasting it. Looks like the pers foul didn't hurt that much. Was it only a 2 yard penalty from the 4 yd ln?

Has to be the worst 2nd quarter of the year for us. Our defense stunk, penalties killed us. We lead in all the yardage categories, first downs, TOP, just not in score and that is what matters. Going to need a monster 3rd quarter and we haven't been great in the 3rd but neither has SIU. In fact, I think they've been horrible.

Oh believe me...we hate it. We actually are ahead in the 4th quarter with a 84-59 margin...so it's not the whole second half. If a football game was only quarters 1, 2 and 4, we would be one of the best teams in the nation probably :p.

The toughest game I've seen us lose in all the years I've followed the Jackrabbits. I've seen us blow big games many times with playoffs on the line but this is the biggest lost by far. SIU won the game, I'm not sure they are better than us, but they won. We lost on the road at UNI at SIU and choked away a game at home against McNeese. We can't keep doing that or we'll just be some team to contend with. I'm just so disappointed in our guys as I'm sure they are. Coach Stig is right, no pats on the back, we got beat and that sucks big time.

Despite the numerous penalties, it was a really clean game (sportsmanship wise.)

The late hit penalties were all basically inadvertent, and not malicious, they just happened. The face masks were more 'just happens' penalties, but they had to be called.

Great game. Great comeback by the Bunnies, glad our defense stepped up when it mattered for the second week in a row.

xconfusedx I think it's hard to "blow" a game when you never had a lead.

I would contend that having the ball at the 20 and driving down only three and throwing a bad pick as blowing the game. That being said, SDSU did just enough to lose the game and SIU did just enough to win. My guess would be that is just how it goes in the league from year to year.

It is pretty frustrating the way that we've taken the third quarter off in every game we've played and let our opponent back in the game after dominating the first half. We're young, and we've also never trailed in any of our wins.
BTW, I was at the game, and the last pick was due to pressure.xpeacex

Amen, its nice that next year we get NDSU, UNI and SIU at home but we still have to travel to Youngstown and WIU. No rest whatsoever week to week. Now, conference teams have to win OOC games so we can get more than one or two into the playoffs.

Ok, so we'll call it blowing a good chance at winning the game.

I am not trying to take anything away from SIU. They are a very good football team. Just bummed that my team couldn't take advantage of opportunities it had. Good luck in the playoffs, I'll be rooting for you.

Next year will be brutal and require careful OOC scheduling. We don't want to play patsies but it ain't going to be easy to get enough wins for the playoffs in conference.

Sioux Falls Argus-Leader write-up:

http://www.argusleader.com/article/20081116/SPORTS0202/811160329/1002/SPORTS

Interesting quotes from the article about the final interception that doomed the Jacks.

Facing a blitz to his blind side on a second-and-10, SDSU quarterback Ryan Berry tried to get rid of the football out of bounds to his right, but ended up flinging it into the arms of Saluki cornerback James Wheeler to all but end the comeback.

"Their defense is built on getting pressure on the quarterback and getting interceptions off that," said Berry, who completed 29 of 46 for 286 yards and three scores. "I was just trying to throw it away. ... I just tried to throw it over to the sideline, and I really couldn't get anything on it."

About the play-in implications of the game.

The loss dropped the Jackrabbits to 6-5 overall and 5-2 in the league, but was particularly stinging in the postseason race. SDSU now can't finish any higher than third in the MVFC, and might have lost its chance to make the playoffs in its first season of eligibility as a Football Championship Subdivision team.

Still believe that SDSU is the #3 power in the MVFC, but get to show if that's true in Fargo next week.

How smooth will the replacement of Berry and Harris be?????

Ryan Crawford has had some playing time at QB, but not when the game's on the line. Receiver corps for Jacks is pretty solid. A lot, as always, depends on how the O-line and D-line shape up. Only 12 seniors on Jacks, and not all of those are starters.

I've never seen anything like our 3rd quarters, I'm guessing our youth is a factor (total of 9 seniors on both sides of the ball on the two-deep charts). I don't think it's Lennon, the guy is a good game coach.
