New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced Sunday that the club has signed fullback Olaniyi Sobomehin to the active roster and terminated the contract of tight end Sean Ryan.
Sobomehin is a rookie running back that signed with the Saints as a free agent out of Portland State University in the days following the NFL draft in April. The 6-1, 230-pound fullback played in all four of the team’s preseason games in August, catching one pass for five yards. He was waived in the team’s final round of roster cuts and subsequently re-signed to the practice squad prior to the regular season opener.
Ryan, a five-year veteran tight end, was signed earlier this week. A former fifth-round draft choice of the Dallas Cowboys in 2004, he has also played with the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins.
