Sorry if already posted... Bryant Eteuati the leading kick/punt returner and important wide receiver on the Weber team was arrested Wednesday night and will likely miss the game Saturday against Northern Arizona...

http://media.www.wsusignpost.com/media/storage/paper985/news/2008/10/24/News/Wsu-Star.Football.Player.Arrested-3505567.shtml

Could have major implications in a critical game for both WSU and NAU.

"The officer stopped a 2000 Lexus being driven by Bryant," Ashment said. "He stopped him because there was another officer on a (different) traffic stop, and (Eteuati) failed to go to the other lane."

Once the officer got Eteuati's information, he realized he didn't have insurance on the Lexus, and had warrants for his arrest for communication fraud, aggravated assault, and retail theft.

Ashment said Eteuati was arrested for the warrants, failure to change lanes, and no insurance. He was booked in the Weber County Jail and his vehicle was impounded.

Ashment said the communications fraud charge held bail of $5000. The aggravated assault charge another $5000. The third charge of retail theft had another $300 bail.

According to bookings at the Weber County Jail, Eteuati was still in custody on Thursday night, and could be there at least five days for failure to appear in court on the retail theft charge. He will be meeting with a judge today, who will decide whether the All-American return specialist will serve his five days in jail, or be released.Don't want to say that driving a Lexus while being black in Utah is a reason to pull someone over because obviously the kid had other issues. xrolleyesx

SE.......SE.....SE He was pulled over for not moving to an open lane while a cop was stopped on the side of the road. It is a law in every state I believe. Not enforced enough IMO. That is how people get hit and killed every year because they are looking at who is stopped and not paying attention to driving and end up hitting the cop car, officer or another car infront of them. He wasn't stopped because he was driving a Lexus or being black, get real.

This will be a big thing for Weber St. to over come. But then again, sometimes being a player down, and a star at that, a team will rise up and perform outstandingly.

I wonder if they pulled anyone else over for the same offense? I know they passed that law in Montana and I have heard of people being pulled over for it, but they were all white.

I wonder if all of Utah is profiling racists, or only Ogden - well probably all of the Rocky Mountain West - hell probably all of America. Or maybe just this officer. Or maybe they pulled everyone over who didn't change lanes.

Sucks for Weber State. I wonder if the kid knew he had outstanding warrants? Why would you just skip a court date?

That law is pretty strict in NC these last few months.

And wouldn't a school have a way to search for outstanding warrants on their student-athletes. If not they should be doing it somehow anyway.

Note - He is not black, but Polynesian. Utah, thanks to Mormon missionairies in hawaii and Polynesia, actually has a number of people from that area.

Two - he grew up in Utah...

Third - this law is strictly enforced in Arizona, and Tennessee, as well it should be. Too many of the men and women that protect us have been killed by people not moving to other lanes.

Fourth - if all he did was fail to change lanes, he would not have been arrested - that is a traffic ticket. The outstanding warrants are what did it.

All I know is by the time that all is said and done we're going to hear a lot about those outstanding warrants - and if it unearths something more serious. If they're not "serious", then it's a DWB offense: if they are serious.. well.. Weber State's in trouble.

There's something else about this story. If Etuati (or others) gets booted from the school - and he or others are academically ineligible - that could very badly affect Weber State's APR ratings, and Weber State is already an "Occasion 3" penalty school. This could conceivably put them "over the top" and put them on track for some serious, serious NCAA repercussions.

I had picked NAU by a narrow margin anyway. I can't understand how he didn't address those warrants at all. UM and MSU can't afford anymore negative publicity. I wonder if Weber will do anything about it, once their player is released from jail.

How come I never saw this in the Standard? Certainly news to me. Have to recheck today's and yesterday's paper.

And for all wondering, OPD sting the hell out of changing lanes on a traffic stop. It's often a leap frog sting. One car is pulled over for one reason or another, and the other cop sits back and pulls over the next car for not changing lanes, the first cop finishes his pull over and waits for the next non-lane changer. Common thing to have happen here, though I thought it was done on Washington Blvd. more than Harrison Blvd.

I'm confused. Nothing on Standard's website nor at the Salt Lake Tribune's web site.

Don't want to say I don't trust the Signpost, but it is a student newspaper. If this happened Wednesday, why haven't the main papers picked up on this obvious story?

Either way, it was an absolutely retarded thing to do
