Very shocked to see Furman and Wofford on top of App, and surprised (i.e. thrilled) to see Elon finally getting a realistic read, i.e. not all they are cracked up to be!

Sagarin must be snorting sacharin this week, to have my team, Montana ranked #1. The damned near lost to a Div. II team, and have had three wins this year in which they were behind with three minutes or less in the games.

I love my Griz, but there is no way they are the best FCS team in the country. I don't think they are even the best team in the Big Sky this year. Just the honest opinion from the "no spin zone"

Sagarin doesn't consider Division II games but Massey's power ratings do and the Massey ratings that consider margin of victory have Montana at #2.

McNeese has only played one D-I team this year and it was a loss to North Carolina. However, Sagarin's system doesn't consider wins and losses...just considers how well the team did in terms of margin of victory or loss given who the opponent is. And North Carolina is looking good so I guess that dragged McNeese's score up.

FYI, Massey ratings for FCS like this:

Margin of Victory Considered

1. JMU
2. Montana
3. Furman
4. New Hampshire
5. Cal Poly
6. Appalachian State
7. Delaware
8. Villanova
9. McNeese State
10. Northern Iowa
11. Eastern Washington
12. Richmond
13. Southern Illinois
14. Wofford
15. Massachusetts
16. South Dakota State
17. Jacksonville State
18. Montana State
19. Western Illinois
20. Weber State
21. Northern Arizona
22. Central Arkansas
23. The Citadel
24. William & Mary
25. North Dakota

Margin of Victory NOT Considered (wins and losses only)

I think you can see why people who do power ratings say that those that do look at margins of victory are better.

1. Cornell
2. Southern Illinois
3. Montana
4. Brown
5. James Madison
6. Furman
7. Cal Poly
8. Jacksonville State
9. Liberty
10. Villanova
11. Northern Iowa
12. Wofford
13. Massachusetts
14. Richmond
15. New Hampshire
16. Harvard
17. Elon
18. The Citadel
19. Bucknell
20. Eastern Washington
21. South Dakota State
22. Sam Houston State
23. Yale
24. Northwestern State
25. Northern Arizona

......

Forget it John.
The only thing more confusing to Wolfboy than facts, would be to put him in a round room and tell him to pee in the corner.

That's what happens when power ratings don't consider margin of victory. Since we're talking FCS I won't post a lot but go to http://www.masseyratings.com/rate.php?lg=cf&yr=2008&mid=6 and compare the ratings that consider Margin of Victory (MOV) to those that don't for FBS teams. You can sort by clicking on "MOV" for the margin of victory ratings and on "Rating" for the ratings that don't use margin of victory.

Remember, the BCS decided to use ratings that don't use margin of victory. Just another screwed up thing with the FBS system.

Too bad margin of victory doesn't take in the part of having class.

SHSU 52-0 ECU at halftime 58-14 final
SHSU 49-10 GW with Bomar 49-33 final

I think some of them have a diminishing return principle so that there is less "credit" for running up really big margins of victory on very outmatched opponents. In any case, they work a lot better than just using wins and losses does.
