At least we didn't cancel the game like William & Mary did a few years ago.

To be fair it was family weekend. Students who have their families come up aren't near as rowdy, and the families of the students aren't your regular game attendees so they were all pulling for App but they just weren't very vocal. Not to mention when you are struggling that bad against PC its pretty damn hard for a lot of people to get excited. My section was loud throughout, but I certainly understand the overall silence yesterday. Next week will be LOUD, homecoming and a big SoCon battle. Old farts will need to bring their earplugs.xthumbsupx

Impressive showing in Boone.

Are you kidding???

I was very disappointed in the crowd this week... I sit on the east side upper deck and there were large holes on the west side upper and plenty of empty seats around me... I know it was raining and there are parts of this state with literally no gas (including boone) but that was embarrasing... ASU announced a sellout earlier in the week and back in the summer announced every seat had been sold for every game but damn people where the hell are you???

Like a lot of things it boils down to location and the teams. That game in Miami would draw well with a Florida school. People would may have attended that game were in Atlanta for the FAMU/TSU game.

It was in the rain... against a nonconference opponent without the name recognition...

I believe it was our 3rd largest attendance all-time. Not bad imo.

It was quiet, though. But that's not reflected in the attendance figures. xpeacex

Capacity for the actual seats may be 11,250 but when you factor in the grass seating, its 13,100. The App State game last year was the first sell out and attendance was listed at 13,100. That doesn't include the 100 or so fans who sat outside the fence and looked in.

I would like to see the series start back. It would receive a lot of local hype....

The series ended up 4-4 before A&T replaced us on the schedule......

Unofrtunately, I haven't heard any rumors about a future series.

Unofrtunately, I haven't heard any rumors about a future series.

I agree that a renewal of this rivalry would create a lot of buzz in the triad area. Some of my fondest memories as an undergrad at Elon football games were the two games we played A&T and were absolutely thrilled by the band. The football game itself was secondary since both teams had the talent of a good high school team.

The only problem with the continuation from Elon's standpoint is that we're focusing on building our football program and we're trying to do that by having a complete schedule of FCS and occasionally FBS opponents.

In 2009, we hope to start a new rivalry by playing at Wake Forest. As a fan, I would much rather see this rivalry develop and grow over the years than to rekindle the series between A&T. Both are private schools in the Triad, recruit in the same areas within NC, and have great coaches capable of doing a lot with a little. Not to mention the six figure payout that we would get :D :D as opposed to playing A&T.

In no way am I suggesting that we never play A&T again or that we would get nothing out of a game or series in the future, but at this point, our focus is on building a great football team and that has to start with playing better opponents and showing the country that we can compete with the best in the FCS!

Wake Forest. One piece of advice. Don't screw it up and beat them regularly. Otherwise, they'll never play you guys again. But, at least they'll admit to avoiding you.
