If the Hornets found a way to lose this game I would be HIGHLY disappointed.

CCSU:

Bryant: W (42-35)
NDSU: L (50-13)
NCCU: W (35-23)

^two close wins over transitional teams, and a really bad loss to North Dakota State (50-13).

DSU needs this win and a big one at that (2 TD+) Anything closer than 10 points and I think that Lavan has reason to be nervous about his squad this year.

You have to look behind the final scores.

42-35 W vs. Bryant
CCSU scored 3 TDs on their 1st 5 possessions
CCSU was up 21-13 after 3Q.
CCSU punted twice; Bryant punted 5 times
Bryant recoved a fumble on the CCSU 16 and scored
CCSU RB Mallory rushed for 256 yards in the game

CCSU did get very sloppy in the 4Q - defense let up late, but our offense and special teams reponded.

50-14 L at North Dakota State
Its a very tough and loud venue - a long, long way from Connecticut
CCSU did get lit up pretty good in this one.
Our defense was bad, very bad.

CCSU RB Mallor rushed for 116 yrd on 17 carries (6.8 avg)r
We did get 2 very nice TD drives in this game:
2Q - 8 plays for 60 yrds (18 yrd TD pass)
4Q - 8 plays for 67 yrds (3 yrd TD run)

http://www.ccsubluedevils.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=88587&SPID=10551&DB_OEM_ID=17600&ATCLID=1576548

35-23 W vs North Carolina Central
CCSU up 28-3 at 8:08 3Q
NCCU has just 55 yrds total rushing for the game
CCSU RB Mallory rushed for 169 total yards
NCCU - scored 2 4Q TD vs our second team D

Once again CCSU's defense let up late in the game, but this time it was mostly reserves, as the game was well in hand.

It wont be easy, but I think we can squeak out a win.

at the same time for CCSU game Bryant had to blocked punts because of bad snaps. Take those out Bryant wins by probably 1 td.

It wont be easy, but I think we can squeak out a win.

So your saying that CCSU's defense lets up in the 4th, yet your proud about a 4Q drive against NDSU in a blowout. xconfusedx

I'll give you that Mallory will be tough to defend against, but with a running QB and Strother on the ground plus the bad weather expected, I'm not too worried. I think that we'll see a grind it out type of game. Eight or nine men in the box on every play for both teams. Our defense did have a good showing against Kent St. If Lavan spent this off week working with the offense on finishing drives, DSU should do just fine.

My prediction:

DSU 31
CCSU 14

Strother gets a few rush TDs and Winton is Winton once again. I may not be a fan of his playing style but this kind of game will be perfect for him. xnodx

Looks like the weather won't be as much of a factor as originally thought. The storm that dumped a lot of rain over the east coast is already in upstate PA and left the area. Unless rain showers pop up during the day today, it should be an all clear for tonight. xthumbsupx

It was 43-7 at halftime. I am not sure anything good or bad could be measured from the game. Two completely different teams. I would say DSU should win but CCSU does have a decent running game that could cause some problems

Thanks, but we know you have a much tougher game tonight. That being said, if CCSU can hold on and beat the defending MEAC champ and 2007 playoff participant, its good news for the entire NEC! xthumbsupx

FINAL

CCSU breaks DSU's 9-game home winning streak.

James Mallory rushes for 120 yards.
CCSU had 262 yds rushing while holding DSU to 87 yrds rushing

Honestly, game wasn't really close. CCSU controlled TOP and the flow of the game. A huge win for CCSU and the NEC.

Central is back on track and ready for the NEC schedule!

In the second half it was all Central Connecticut as they held the Hornets scoreless and allowed the DSU offense on the field for only a little over seven minutes. CCSU controlled the football and the clock as they held the ball for over 40 minutes in the game including 22 minutes in the second half.

Just got home from the game. I am very disappointed. From what I see, DSU is falling apart; the offense could not move the ball at all. The defense could not contain CCSU running game. We have to change or else we might finish at the bottom of the conference.

One thing that I've noticed from these first three games is that our run defense is god-awful and hasn't even attempted to look any better.

250 yards on the ground tonight xsmhx

There are no excuses for this...

ok i'm just going to come out and say it,
we ******n suck

there are very complicated things that we dont do very well such as tackle and catch the football. are we like not recruiting? our tight end is 5-foot-8 on stilts. Vashon just launches the ball down the middle of the field when he gets scared now. i just dont understand. last year we were so in tact.

the sad part about it is that we will probably win the meac when all is said and done and then we will play a playoff game against a quality team and be the subject of humor. how do we ever expect to get respect?

After a performance like this I would be surprised if we finish better than 4th. FAMU (looking back our win was a fluke, we should be 0-3), Hampton, SC State are far better than we are right now.

It may sound unpopular, but if we get spanked by Hampton next week...I will be in favor of benching Winton for Glaud. xwhistlex
