BROOKINGS - Running back is the most talented position in the Football Championship Subdivision's best league.

Three ballcarriers from the Missouri Valley Football Conference - home to six top-25 teams - are among the 16 players on the initial watch list for the Walter Payton Award that is given to the national player of the year regardless of position.

Kyle Minett is not one of them, but he's certainly worth watching. The South Dakota State sophomore ran for 124 yards and two touchdowns with six catches for 65 yards in Saturday's 40-7 thrashing of No. 14-ranked Youngstown State, the Jackrabbits' first-ever game in the Missouri Valley. . . .
