First ever meeting between these two teams

Colgate Head Coach Dick Biddle needs 1 win to become Colgate's all-time winningest coach. His 95 wins is tied with the legendary Andy Kerr. This is Biddle's third shot at Win #96. Colgate lost at Holy Cross to end the 2007 season, then lost again in last week's 2008 opener at Stony Brook

Jordan Scott returns from suspension. He is looking for his 14th consecutive 100 yard game, his 13 already being the school record. Scott needs 748 yards to become Colgate's all-time leading rusher

According to Colgate's notes, Carlton Walker gets the start at Defensive Tackle over Jim Meara. The only other changes are Greg Sullivan at QB (replacing Alex Relph-injury) and Scott at TB

Damn all that and only 1 game suspension? I would have assumed 21 days in jail would mean more time missed?

TheValleyRaider
September 7th, 2008, 01:19 PM
Colgate is staring 0-2 in the face for the first time since 2002

The turnovers are killing them today. They clearly don't have enough confidence in Sullivan to throw a lot, and it appears Coastal has really keyed on Scott. The offense needs a good, sustained drive that end in 7. Too many drives stalling and leading to FGs. Not out of it yet, but they need to show a lot more

Well, jail time was part of the plea bargain, as misdemeanors don't carry a sentence, so technically it was excessive punishment, presumably in exchange for not being kicked off the team, or at least a longer suspension xtwocentsx

VR: doesn't everyone key in on him? Yes the turnovers are killing you guys. I would love to see MacDowell (our QB) pull the ball out of our RBs gut a few times and run himself to keep you guys more honest.

TheValleyRaider
September 7th, 2008, 01:27 PM
Normally, yes, but there is no passing game to speak of to even remotely take the pressure off

We were getting yards early, the O-Line was blowing your guys off the line of scrimmage. But those holes are starting to get filled in, and there's little hope we can gleam from Sullivan. Some decision-making, plus, it sounds like your guys are covering pretty well

TheValleyRaider
September 7th, 2008, 01:31 PM
The radio guys have said it a bit better. Sullivan is a nice 5 for 9, but for only 28 yards xeekx

Really, we might as well keep running since we get as many yards per run play as through the pass

CDB says says that it blows his mind when the QB fumbled it, recovered it, they stopped the clock set it at :08 after the special teams came out. Said it would have been very difficult to get the play off if the refs didn't stop it for no reason.

He has no idea why they stopped the call.

People are assigned to cover eligible receivers and they didn't.

Sickening feeling.

They ran an illegal procedure on the drive that wasn't called. Sickening, sickening loss.

Was if a fumbled snap or that the qb spiked it off of the running back? If he did spike it off the running back that could be a forward pass. Watching it on the internet (which was hard to see) and listening to the Colgate radio feed it seems like that was the call.

I only had the radio, but they talked about how the spike hit a lineman in the back, or seemed to. They seemed convinced there'd be a call about it, but obviously nothing came

Obviously there was no mention about linemen moving at the snap, so that's the first I've heard of it

As for the clock, it seems like that was CCU's timekeeper (or whoever was operating the scoreboard) that was having difficulty getting the time right. The delay there was unfortunately on the stadium, not the refs

There were a lot of miscues on our part. The stoppage in the game hurt everybody. That really lends itself to hurting the game of football."

It's possible there was some real trash-talk going on, and they felt compelled to do it. I know they sing the fight song at midfield after home games (jumping on our own logo), but obviously you need to be careful on the road

Biddle is a good man.
One question is, does Colgate get the field goal off without the clock stopping? It seemed like refs were confused more than anything. If the spike happened with 20 seconds left (per Biddle--hard to know how many seconds were left watching internet feed) and it was a fumble recovered by Colgate, you could potentially get the field goal unit on the field for the kick--they were out there as they were setting the ball. It seems like the clock ran down to 8 seconds--as if it were a fumble and then the clock stopped as if it were an incomplete pass. If the ruled incomplete pass happened with 8 seconds left and should have been a fumble there is no way Colgate gets the field goal off.

Either way, incredibly frustrating for Costal and an incredible win for Colgate. Good luck the rest of the way.

fumbled spike was with :14 left. They "figured out" it only takes 5.6 seconds to get the ball, spot it, get the colgate offense off the field, and get the special teams out there. I guess Colgate has a team of world class sprinters. Horrible call by the refs. Congrats to Colgate.

It happened twice. The first time was when they finished warming up at their end of the field after the delay. The entire team gathered at the middle of the field (directly on the emblem) and jumped up and down getting fired up for the rest of the game. I thought that would fire OUR players up. I guess not...xsmhx
When the game was over after that last play, they all ran out to mid-field, pointing at it for the post game hand shake. They were in a perfect line, turned and ran over the emblem to our team.
Maybe my words cannot accurately describe it but it instantly reminded me of TO and the Dallas incident back in the day when he played for the 49ers.

If the Colgate players spent Saturday night in Myrtle Beach, make sure they get checked before going to classes tomorrow. They have a particularly virulent strain of gonnorhea there, central NY doesn't need an outbreak.

I still dont understand how a qb who grabs the ball with his knee on the ground can get up and throw a pass. either way it doesnt matter. we sucked and played to lose and got what we deserved.

When you are the holder on a FG you can absolutely do this. Once the holder recieves (or drops) the snap he can get up and run or pass.
