Here's a review of Colonels athletic facilities in the wake of Hurricane Gustav.

http://geauxcolonels.cstv.com/genrel/090408aab.html

The school took a nice hit, especially the communities (particularly Houma) that surround the institution. I listened to WWL radio yesterday and they said it seemed like 85% of the structures sustained some sort of damage in Houma, which is where I'm guessing a large portion of the faculty, staff and perhaps even commuter students live.

Here's an update from the campus itself...

And if you want to visit and check in with the Colonel fans, the Nicholls fan forums...

Glad you guys made it mostly intact - seems like the weather has been especially brutal on LA in recent memory.

Wow,

Bad hit, but I was thinking it was going to be MUCH worse. I really thought they would be without a stadium for all, if not most of the season. I know that it is bad, but trust a Rita surviver, it could have been MUCH worse.

Hang in their Nichols fans, As bad as it seems now, you will pull through it.

Too bad it messed up their sofball scoreboard. They could have used Gustav as an excuse for a new football scoreboard had it been taken out. They needed a new one BAD.

Hopefully no injuries. I don't want to sound insensitive, but it seems like they fared OK. A 1950's softball scoreboard was the major loss?

Wow, I feel badly for all they are going through and will go through in the coming weeks and months. I am hopeful that they get electricity back on sooner than later. I know that when Hurricane Rita hit Lake Charles and McNeese it was first estimated that it would be 6 weeks to two months before electricity would be restored, but they were able to restore it within about 2 1/2 weeks (however the damage to McNeese was such that the it remained closed for a total of 5 weeks due to the enormity of building damage and then opened with tons of temp buildings being brought in).

I hope Nicholl's electrical restoration estimates are incorrect and that the university is up and running within the next week. Geaux Colonels!

I too am glad they did not appear to receive any more damage than they did sustain. Obviously never having gone through one of these 'canes I dont have a clue what any of you or them have gone through. Prayers to nicholls and all LA obviously.

I really do hope Ike stays out to sea!

Canceled. All Nicholls State athletic events are on hold for the time being. They're going to probably re-evaluate the situation over the weekend, namely once the power situation has been made clearer.

Worth noting - the University of New Orleans just announced they are re-opening on Monday. Though, the on-campus apartments which are not affiliated with the school and where a large majority of the on-campus students live, have not yet announced when they are opening...

I live in Gonzales, 20 miles outside of Baton Rouge, and I just got power back last night around 6:30. My in-laws and neighbors have been staying with my wife and I since Sunday. They're all from Houma and just got to go back today. Still no power there and it could be weeks until everyone gets it back. I haven't had a chance to get down to Thibodaux but it sounds like that football stadium took minimal damage and they'll be able to play soon.

Thanks to all of the other universities for the assistance and support they've shown to Nicholls.

Nicholls apparently has power back up and running.

Houma is slowly getting power but after I went drive around, it seems like its all in SLECA areas and not Entergy areas.
