FORMER UK QUARTERBACK AT FAMU
Transfer Curtis Pulley cleared to join Rattler squad for 2008

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Aug. 21) - Former University of Kentucky quarterback Curtis Pulley has officially been cleared for competition with the Florida A&M University Football team in time for the coming 2008 campaign.

The 6-4, 200-pound phenom from Hopkinsville, Kentucky, who played two seasons for the Wildcats as a quarterback, receiver and kick-blocking specialist in 2005 and 2006, will immediately begin workouts with the Rattler squad at quarterback.

Pulley will compete for the starting quarterback spot with incumbent Eddie Battle, a 6-2, 215-pound redshirt sophomore from Titusville, Florida, who played in six games last season, and Tobias Lee, a 6-4, 225-pound redshirt freshman left hander from Brundidge, Alabama.

“It's a win-win situation for him (Pulley). He should not only be able to get his degree, but also make a positive impact on our program,” said Florida A&M head coach Joe Taylor on Thursday morning.

o As a quarterback for UK, Pulley completed 60 percent of his passes in 22 games, hitting on 39 of 64 aerials for 280 yards. As a freshman in 2005, he hit on 31 of 50 passes for 208 yards in nine games, while completing eight of 14 passes for 72 yards as a sophomore.

o On the ground, Pulley rushed for 273 yards on 72 carries, with 3 TDs, highlighted his freshman campaign (2005), when he netted 149 yards and 3 TDs. In 2005, he ran for two TDs against the Florida Gators and scored another rushing TD against the Georgia Bulldogs, finishing with a team-high 61 yards rushing against UGA.

o As a receiver, Pulley snared 23 passes for 220 yards and one score, making 21 catches for 201 yards and a TD as a sophomore, ranking fifth on the squad.

o On special teams, the talented youngster had four blocked kicks, three field goals and a PAT in two seasons at UK. He blocked two field goals as a freshman against Ole Miss in 2005; deflected a field goal against Tennessee and a PAT against Florida in 2006.

Pulley finished his high school career at Hopkinsville High School as one of the most decorated prep performers in annals of the Bluegrass State.

Named “Mr. Football” in Kentucky for the 2004 season, Pulley won the Paul Hornung Award as the Kentucky High School Player of the Year. He was tabbed First-team all-state as a senior by The Associated Press and Louisville Courier-Journal, and chosen for the Lexington Herald-Leader “Class of the Commonwealth” listing of the top 22 seniors in the state and the “Kentucky Tremendous 26” by the Kentucky Football Coaches Association.

A four-year letterman and three-year starter as a quarterback and safety, Pulley's passing numbers featured 379 completions in 737 attempts for 6,016 yards and 62 touchdowns, while his rushing totals were equally impressive, as he raced for 3,043 yards and 54 TDs on 487 attempts.

He finished his career with 9,059 yards in total offense, while being responsible for 116 TDs, leading his team to a 31-8 record in three seasons when he was the starting quarterback, advancing to the Class AAA state semifinals his sophomore and senior seasons.

As a defender, Pulley's career totals included 155 tackles, 10 interceptions (two returned for touchdowns), two fumble recoveries (one for TD), and 13 pass breakups. He also helped guide the Kentucky team to victory in the Kentucky-Tennessee All-Star Game in June 2005.

An all-around athlete, Pulley also turned in impressive performances in basketball and track: A two-year All-State basketball player, he led the state in rebounding as a junior (2003). He began running track during his junior year (2003), competing in the 100-meter dash and three relay events. The Hopkinsville 4x200 meter relay team finished fourth in the state his junior year.

Florida A&M opens its' 2008 football campaign on August 30 against Alabama State in Bragg Memorial Stadium. Kickoff will be 6:00 p.m.

Didn't he briefly get placed over Woodson on the depth chart before Woodson's Jr. season?

Or am I imagining things?
