High School -- Budd played just about every position as a senior under head coach John Andree at Morro Bay High School. As a quarterback he completed 90 of 162 passes (55.6 percent) for 1,668 yards and 16 touchdowns with just one interception. He also rushed 189 times for 1,360 yards (7.2 average per carry) and 22 scores. On defense, Budd recorded 18 tackles and returned nine interceptions 179 yards. His punting average was 40.3 yards per kick, he handled kickoffs (24 touchbacks) and Budd also was 44-for-57 on extra-point kicks and 7-for-13 in field goals. He averaged 17.1 points and 252.3 yards of total offense per game, leading the Pirates to an 11-1 overall record, the Los Padres League title with a 7-0 mark and into the quarterfinal round of the CIF-Southern Section Northwest Division playoffs. Honors include Los Padres League and CIF-Southern Section Northwest Division most valuable player, San Luis Obispo County Tribune player of the year, first-team all-state multi-purpose player (medium schools) by CalHiSports.com and second-team all-SoCal pick as an all-purpose player by GoldenStatePreps.com. As a junior, Budd rushed for 634 yards and 12 touchdowns, completed 72 of 150 passes for 1,110 yards and 11 scores with 10 interceptions and, on defense, recorded 33 tackles, four interceptions and one fumble recovery. He averaged 5.7 yards per punt return, 30.6 yards per punt and made 12 of 15 PATs and six of seven field goals. Budd also plays baseball at Morro Bay High.
