The Stadium is undergoing the turf renovation, and the first few slabs were laid down this week. Still much more to do. But the Expansion is well on its way to being done. Only street and interior work need to be done. And the sound system was tested and sounds great.

That looks like concrete underneath that thin turf. I bet that would hurt like hell.

That looks like concrete underneath that thin turf. I bet that would hurt like hell.If it's set up the same way that the old turf was, it'll be pretty nice. I'm sure there's a fair amount of padding.

In that last picture I hope they're going to replace the lettering where it says "The University of Montana." They should also go to the south entrance under Griz Vision and replace the lettering there, as it's getting rather old.

I can't wait to see what it all looks like with a full house!

From the picture, it looks like hardly any padding. Looks like the Fargodome, they have pretty much no padding under their AstroBurnTurf.

I don't know about SprinTurf like the griz have, but with our new install of FieldTurf there is no padding under the turf, it lays on 6" of tightly compacted crushed gravel and sand for drainage) probably similar to what the griz turf lays on). The padding comes from the infill- with Field Turf there is 143 tons of fine silica sand and 107 tons of rubber pellets (7 lbs. sand and 3 lbs. rubber/ sq. ft.) which makes about 2" of infill in the turf, very similar to playing on natural grass. I think SprinTurf is somewhat similar, but only uses rubber pellets (3 lbs./ sq. ft) so the turf itself must be shorter when they lay it down.

It's not concrete it's dirt. I was watching them plow it around last week.

yes it is dirt! and I've played on the old sprinturf...which was the nicest stuff i've ever played on. Premium football conditions. And it does not hurt. And you have pads on, so toughen up! haha
