The lights are up, they just have to run the conduit and wiring.

AMHERST - When the University of Massachusetts football team opens the season against Albany Aug. 30, there will be 125 constant foot-candles of illumination on the McGuirk Alumni Stadium playing surface.

In other words, it will be a night game.

The permanent lights at the stadium have been installed, and once the wiring is complete, the system should be on-line next month in time for the home opener for the Minutemen.

AMHERST, Mass. - The new lights have been installed at McGuirk Stadium! Workers raised the support poles and the light banks on Thursday morning with three on each side of the stadium. The next phase of the project will be the wiring of the lights. UMass will kick off the 2008 season under the new lights when Albany comes to town on August 30 at 6 p.m.
