High School - Winkelman earned first-team All-Santa Clara County and All-Metro honors as a linebacker and was named most valuable offensive lineman of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League as a senior under head coach Butch Cattolico at Los Gatos High School. Winkelman notched 97 tackles (46 solo), including eight sacks, along with four fumble recoveries, one of which was returned 67 yards for a touchdown against Gilroy in the semifinal round of the CIF-Central Coast Section Open Division playoffs.
