View Full Version : team entrance!

Thinking of what teams have unique ways that they take the field. (FBS example: Clemson rubbing the rock and coming down the hill, or Michigan hitting the Go Blue banner as they enter from the 50 yard line.

FCS examples for me: Delware running out from under the student endzone section or Furman running down their own hill.

On a side note I always thought it would be different if a team had their entrance to the stadium come out from underground.

Look it is still a long haul till August... work with me people!

The Griz, and I assume someone else will elaborate, enter through a mist of liquid nitrogen. It does a nice job of making a big cloud.

I've heard that the University of South Carolina players all rub their mascot before taking the field.....

oh wait, that's something entirely different.

EKU essentially does come out from underground. Both locker rooms are located under the home side of the stadium, and the players have to go (slowly) up and down a steep ramp that has tread on it. I wish I had a picture. At the start of the game the team slowly files out of the actual entrance then lines up behind the inflatable tunnel. It would be imposible for a team to actually run in unison out of the lockeroom itself seeing as how you can only move about 3 mph if you want to stay upright.

It's usually quite a scene to watch an injured player get helped to the locker room.

As far as unique things about the entrance itself, directly preceding it they have all 24 starters (including the P and K) introduce themselves on the jumbotron stating their name, class, position, and hometown.

Presbyterian has a nice entrance i think.. we have a big blowup PC helmet and before the team runs out we play a clip from Braveheart. the one that ends with you may take our lives but never our freedom..then a canon goes off, the team runs through the helmet and b/t two rows of students line up on the field all dressed in the usual PC football attire of guys in seersucker, slacks, bow ties/ties and the southern belles in their sundresses.. oh and their led on the field by our mascot which is a student dressed like Mel Gibson in the movie Braveheart

Nothing is as electrifying as that entrance for a night game at Lane Stadium. Unfortunately Furman is a day game so FU fans won't get the full effect, but the place will still be rockin'. VT fans don't come to watch the game, they come to INFLUENCE the game.

The best entrance in my recent memory has to be Furman's entrance at their homecoming in 2002.

Coming off a season that saw them roll to the finals and break hated rival GSU's 4 year long home winning streak, they were nationally ranked yet again heading to a big homecoming showdown that was televised on SportsSouth against- you guessed it- GSU.

The crowd goes wild as the mighty Paladins jump up and down in the tunnel, exhorting themselves and the purple throng amassed. Mighty Sir Paladin sits atop his steed and charges onto the field leading the Furman squad only to be bucked high into the air and lands flat on his ass, armor and all.

At this point the team kinda veers off to the sideline while the Furman faithful sit in stunned silence... after what seemed like hours, though it was only a second or two, Sir Paladin rises and mounts his ride again while about 5000 GSU fans who made the trip go wild in laughter.

The thud wasn't the loudest 'crash landing' of the afternoon as GSU soon rolls to a 35-0 halftime lead over the stunned Purple warriors.

I would assume that old purple nag is named Elmer's by now, if you get my drift... I laughed so hard I almost pissed myself.

This has been evolving over the last few seasons at Jax State. The addition of the new scoreboard last season added this element ...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Y7zw69CInE

At the conclusion of the video, the stadium announcer asks: "Gamecock fans, are you ready?" Cue the on-field fireworks (which were absent last season - too expensive since we had to pay Mississippi State for missing that game?) ... and the team, led by flag-waving cheerleaders, emerges from underneath the away-side bleachers onto the field, where the Marching Southerners are assembled in a "JSU" formation." The team and cheerleaders run a circle around the "S" as the band belts out the fight song. Shown below:

http://lh3.ggpht.com/bcunningham.star/SFPU_DELadI/AAAAAAAAAmY/BIhJeovD_7w/07ttupregame.jpg

Much more dramatic than what we were doing before. They actually did rub the mascot. :) A small rooster statue installed outside the fieldhouse entrance.

What on earth does sponsoring a month on AGS have to with team entrances? If you don't have anything to add to the conversation, why did you even post in the thread?

As for entrances (so I am at least on topic), I am not a big fan of Yosef riding out on his Hog - a little too Weak Foresty for me. Sean Connery booming "Welcome to the Rock" kicks arse, though.

YSU's was a let down to me. You can see the team the whole time, so by the time they actually "take the field" there wasn't much of a buildup.

NDSU's is probably the best, although I do LOVE Clemson's.

the video of SU's really undersells it...

the Dome goes dark... the video comes up... the crowd starts buzzing... the lyrics come up... they start screaming... it's... like nothing else i've ever experienced.

then the nimrods at Minnesota decided (not paying attention)... to bring the Gophers out to it at the Metrodome... problem was, the Bison fans were louder.

Wofford's entrance isn't that great, but the distance between the exit from our locker room to the field is so long, you can't really hide the team from view or do much. Then again, stadium entrances and halftime events aren't Wofford's strong suit (unless you are a fan of mascot football games or Pop Warner football games). I would be very happy to see Wofford bring in some smoke or pyrotechnics.

I am not a fan of that first Sam Houston State entrance video. It brings up to many painful memories of that playoff loss at home to the BearKats. As for EWU, we have no video board and our entrance is through the gate which everyone can see the team walkup. We have added a tunnel for the players to run through but do not have a signature song that we take the field to. Check out the Jump Around entrance for Wisconsin on youtube. Don't actually see the players take the field but the crowd jumping and singing is awesome. Someone with skills put a link up so that it is easier for everyone to find. Go Eagles!!!

I'm with you - I like ASU's entrance, except for the bike.

Yosef's bike has a little bit too much of a "retiree-cruising-down-the-Blue-Ridge-Parkway" vibe for my taste.

It's not cool, it's not intimidating, it isn't tradition, it makes absolutely no sense for a Mountaineer to be on a bike, they did it already at Wake Forest, it's an advertising tie-in.

Yosef might as well be riding in on a black-and-gold Oscar Meyer wiener-mobile.

On a side note I always thought it would be different if a team had their entrance to the stadium come out from underground.

Elon will sort of have that when they finish Rhodes. The opposing team will enter under the completed horseshoe sort of where the entrance is now and the home team will enter from sort of underground basically right at the south ticket gate.

Hill? We don't run down a hill! We run through a tunnel that leads to a giant Furman Helmet, and run out with smoke and cheerleaders with flags that spell F U R M A N and Sir Paladin leading the way with his sword drawn (The flag idea was ended after he fell off for the fatefull GSU gamexnonono2x ) to the sound of "Rock You like a Hurricane", to pay homage to FU's old mascot; The Purple Hurricanes. I hate to be an arrogant homer, but the only entrance I can think of in all college football that's better than NDSU's is Virginia Tech. NDSU seriously is the only team in college football that makes the place go dark for intros like an NBA game.

You guys gotta actually be at a Bison game to truly experience it. It's like nothing you've ever seen.

That is pretty sweet Bisonator but the thought of playing the game indoors is a fairly unsavory proposition to most fans. It is a perk that most will willingly give up. At least your school utilizes the indoor thing to it's full potential.

Best in all of college football, I have no idea since I haven't been to many Non-NDSU games. But it is definitely a great way to start the game. Even as good as it is I think the sad thing is I think NDSU can do so much more/better to improve it.

Agreed on both counts.

Every game at Paul Snow in 2007 kicked off early in the day (save one Thursday night contest), and they were all played in blazing sunshine. It was miserable, and I think it actually hurt the attendance significantly.

I began to suspect that the game times were chosen for the same reason the fireworks were cut: Not enough money to run the lights.

Kickoff times for 2008 haven't been announced yet, but I hope somebody catches a clue.

That Delaware student section looks pretty hype! Where are Boom sticks still allowed...I don't think the ACC allows them anymore(at Clemson for Grad school)

Don't forget, we had them this past year at Black Saturday. Although, I'd like to forget that day for other reasons. :(

True, I have a great picture of the student section all pointing them at kickoff, but that was the best part of it probably. I got engaged that morning before the game, but that was the first time my Fiance had seen App lose in person!

Towson apparently takes a dump on their locker room floor and then brings it out onto the field, because holy *****, that crap that they call football on the field is anything but.

I like UD's entrance except late in the season when the students aren't there. NDSU's looks pretty darn good.

Single best entrance I've seen in all of college football was UVA in their 2002 bowl game against WVU. Moutaineers came in with the hillbilly and his musket leading the charge... very ordinary. Then UVA came in a walked across the field. You probably had to be there, but It was very cool.

So do I! xwhistlex

But it is fun to see opposing fans get riled up about them....If we were a chump school with say, Black and Gold streamers, people would just say "AHHHH! Isn't that so cute!! They have school spirit, yes they do!!" xnodx xnodx xnodx xnodx

It's actually Hi Hi Yikas. I have no idea what a yika is though, but after every touchdown we tell him "hi". Twice.
It's actually mountain talk for "How ya like us" kinda like Yosef (the team mascot) is mountain talk for "yourself"...

Oh yeah, well it's a good thing you didn't say Black and Gold streamers, cause them would be fightin' words! xrolleyesx

Best entrance to a game? When Ray Lewis walks out before a playoff game. I've been to two NFL post season games at Ravens Stadium, both times were absolutely insane! And I hate the Ravens!

*Off topic*

Hey! That's me on the field! In the band, that is.... You hear the cymbal crashes during the Banner? Yup. That's me.

In the 5 years that I've been in the GSMB I've never really liked how Dr. Sublet sings the Banner. Nothing against her - she's an excellent vocalist. I just don't care for her Banner singing.

*We now resume with the regularly scheduled topic*

This is one thing that the Bucs really need to work on. The current one is pretty lame, but then again, once the new field house goes up at the north end zone it should offer some more options for a better one.

I've heard that the University of South Carolina players all rub their mascot before taking the field.....

oh wait, that's something entirely different.
Are you sure that wasn't a cheerleader? xlolx

The Ags are pretty standard before the game, get a big load up before running out to the noise of the Band-Uh! and the cheers of the cheer squad. It's after the game that is more of a tradition...hitting the old Tavernetti Victory Bell!!! xnodx

Hens have the whole Hell's Bells(AC/DC)/Down With the Sickness (Disturbed) entrance thing they do. Definitely cool. xthumbsupx

I love AC/DC but "Hells Bells" is overplayed by everyone. I went to the Army v. Central Michigan game last year and Central played "Hells Bells" 1000 times in the first half.

Very cool GSU!

Griz enter to something similar, Hauck runs onto the field, rubs the fans wrong and he's a bust.

Seriously, the Griz used to enter the stadium and the PA would say "Nobody comes into our house and pushes us around, and I mean nobody" We had to quit playing that since Hauck got here for fear of false advertising.

The one thing the video missed is that while the players are paying "homage" to Erk, a highlight video is playing on the video screen and towards the end a clip of Erk has his famous quote "One More Time for the Greatest Team in America" is what cues the football team to enter the field. Really cool!
