Hampton could be a top 25 team if they can replace TJ Mitchell. Knowing he is gone I shake my head at that selection as well. Liberty could be a top 25 team. Their biggest question mark is the OL.

Elon would be higher, but the All american teams i agree with. Minus Pierre Banks, I think D.J. Smith will produce better and be a first teamer. Buck Buchanon award candidate for 09'.

Some interesting things/errors about the picks in here:

1. They put AE on the All-America team but did not put Nichols. Nichols was the OFF POY while Edwards was the MVP. Liam Coen was the 2nd team QB.
2. Did not know that App State was playing Georgia State this year on Oct. 18?
3. They have Jason Williams of WIU on the All-America team but no Eric Schroeder of SDSU and yet Schroeder is the DEF POY of the Gateway.
4. Sean Lawyer of Cal Poly was listed as GWFC DEF POY but they have him as playing for UC Davis.
5. 2 EKU players are listed on All-America defense but neither are the ones selected as DEF POY for OVC as their DL Chris Coy was selected.
6. 3 SoCon players made the 1st team All-America list but none were chosen SoCon DEF POY. They chose LB Joseph Thornton of UTC over Banks even though Banks was on the team and Thornton wasn't.
7. Hampton QB TJ Mitchell was named MEAC OFF POY but he has been suspended.

Seems like they spread around the awards in the interest of "fairness" rather than using any logic for their assignments.

Not saying we'll finish first by any means, but I don't see us finishing last. Last year, four of our five conference losses could have easily gone the other way, and we'll be much improved defensively in '08. We only have three conference games at home, but I like our chances to improve on our 2-5 SLC record of a year ago.

QUARTERBACK: With all-MEAC quarterback T.J. Mitchell sidelined much of the spring for disciplinary reasons, sophomore Herbert Bynes had a chance to snag the starting job. He didn’t.

Holmes said the two will enter camp in August on even footing. Holmes likes Bynes’ poise and leadership, but thinks that Mitchell understands the offense better.

I'd have UCA as the favorite because it was a very young team last year and has an excellent player who also has the intangibles as a leader coming back at the quarterback position.

OFF POY: TJ Mitchell, QB, Hampton
DEF POY: Terrell Whitehead, DB, Norfolk State

1. Hampton
2. Del. St.
3. SC St.
4. WSSU
5. Norfolk St.

7. Morgan St.
8. BCC
9. Howard

How can you have WSSU in the poll they are in MEAC until 2009! Hampton is ranked pretty high after an OK year & losing their whole D-Line.
SC ST is ranked too low also.

PATRIOT LEAGUE

OFF POY: Jordan Scott, RB, Colgate
DEF POY: Andy Romans, LB, Lafayette

1. Holy Cross
2. Colgate
3. Fordham
4. Lehigh
5. Lafayette
6. Bucknell
7. Georgetown

I really, really don't understand why he picks Fordham to finish 3rd after hardly graduating anybody and (oh by the way) winning the League last year. What exactly did Colgate do to deserve being ranked ahead of them? Losing last year to Fordham? Blowing the last game of the year to lose a probable playoff spot? Graduating their best defensive player? Suffering the distraction of the Jordan Scott affair?

I mean, Colgate is a very good team and I don't want to sell them short (for example, of course they should be picked in front of Lehigh and Lafayette), but I have a very difficult time fathoming why Fordham suffers such a lack of respect. And as others have pointed out, they played UMass very tough in the playoffs last year.

You guys should email Otto Fad and ask him his reasons. I am sure he has a good reason for that.

He's probably saying to himself that the PL Preseason favorite never wins the League, so he's better off picking someone else xrotatehx

I'd have UCA as the favorite because it was a very young team last year and has an excellent player who also has the intangibles as a leader coming back at the quarterback position.

Offensively, they'll be outstanding and will hang points on anyone, but I'm not sold on them defensively. They have some guys coming in who will help, but I suspect they'll be in for a bunch of shootouts again in '08.

Quite frankly I put zero stock into Lindy's FCS Rankings. Why?

My dad went to college with him (University of Alabama '78) and the guy always was talking about football and such. So much so, that he needed my dad to tutor him in STATISTICS of all things (kind of important when anaylizing teams). Anyways, he knows absolutely nothing about any football outside the SEC and ACC, and has been dishing stuff like that out for other people to write for years. He knows absolutely nothing about FCS.

Not saying we'll finish first by any means, but I don't see us finishing last. Last year, four of our five conference losses could have easily gone the other way, and we'll be much improved defensively in '08. We only have three conference games at home, but I like our chances to improve on our 2-5 SLC record of a year ago.

Maybe three of your five could have gone either way....The outcomes of two of them were never seriously in doubt. You and I both know you got gashed for three quarters by Northwestern, who kept you in the game because of their injuries and second quarter benevolence....;)

I don't really have to go into the other one, do I? ;)

I think UC Davis will be greatly improved in 2008 but it would be difficult to pick them over Cal Poly at this point.

Damian Perkins (Stephen F. Austin) is a Preseason Second-Team All-America pick. He was booted off the team midway last season xoopsx

For anyone who wishes to buy the latest copy of Lindy's ...

Have to agree with Lionsrking on this one. We will be outstanding on offense and SHOULD BE improved on defense but the proof will be on the field.

I would pick McNeese #1 and us (UCA) #2. We get them at home this year but they kicked our behinds pretty good last year giving us a dose of reality.

I know the coaches did not like how McNeese moved the ball up and down the field on us and went out and got 6 very solid defensive transfers.

Can't wait until the season starts.

Otto fad's an idiot.. He put's a delaware team that lost the core of it's offense and had a terrible defense at 9th and then put's SFA who didn't win a game last year as 3rd place SLC team above UCA and NWST that actually showed promise.

With a young and inexperienced O-line, there is no way SDSU finishes 3rd in the Gateway. I'm hoping they do as that'll put them in the playoffs, but with there schedule it is going to be very difficult.
