The ex-Hen who had spent 25 years with Tubby Raymond leaves Princeton to rejoin his alma mater.

NEWARK – Gregg Perry, who spent 25 years as a University of Delaware assistant football coach, is coming back to the Blue Hens’ staff, UD coach K.C. Keeler said today.

Perry, 54, offensive line coach at Princeton the last two years, has been hired to coach UD offensive tackles and tight ends. He fills a vacancy created when offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Kirk Ciarrocca left last week to become wide receivers coach at Rutgers.

A GREAT hire for UD. The former Hen RB and 21 year Coach of the O-Line is also a great recruiter and motivator. He will be a nice addition to our staff.

Sounds like a valuable re-addition to the staff. Any reason why he has continued to have basically lateral moves? Not a jab at all, just curious. Any inside information to suggest no aspirations of head coaching or assistant coaching in the NFL or FBS level, etc.?

Perry was passed over for the HC following Tubby's retirement. (Then again, so was Keeler, at least initially.;) ) Gregg was offered the chance to stay on by KC, but he declined. He was out of coaching for a time and didn't really have an HC options available, as far as I've heard.

Perry isn't a ladder-climber. He's one of those rare guys in the business who doesn't have huge career aspirations. He's an excellent OL coach, terrific person and fine recruiter. It's good to have him back in the fold. xthumbsupx
