Busy day shaping up. One that will begin around 11 a.m. and end around 11 p.m. It's yet one more sample why those considering careers in journalism should probably consider something else.

For me, today begins with a trip to Lehigh where football coach Andy Coen is going to announce his team's class of recruits for this year. Lehigh generally waits 1-2 weeks after national signing day to announce its list, which we've heard is long and impressive.

This is a critical incoming class and critical season ahead for the Mountain Hawks, who sunk to 5-6 overall and were just 2-4 in the Patriot League last season. The natives in and around South Mountain are restless, especially after four straight losses to Lafayette.

Look my my reactions on my blog (when the announcement becomes official):

Who's left to announce in the PL? Is Georgetown the only other PL school that will announce in late April/early May?

Bucknell hasn't announced their class.

Colgate hasn't announced, just names pulled from various newspapers

We usually announce in early March, so you'll see something in about 2-3 weeks from Hamilton

Very interesting. While none from the 'classic' definitionof Lehigh Valley, a few from nearby Bucks County and Wyoming Valley. First time in a while that I can recall no recruits from the basic Lehgh/Northampton County borders. Seems like we have really branched out in national recruiting. I think this reflects the smaller and smaller pool of available candidates that PL teams can pull from. I think Lafayette only had one from the Lehigh Valley this year, and he was a prep school kid from Easton by way of Wyoming Seminary near Scranton. I lot of good talent on paper. Fingers crossed.

Looks like needs were addressed and 27 players deeps is great.

Looks like a good class. However, we won't really know until Carney waives his magic wand and assigns his 2008 Patsy Rating.

On the whole, not a very widely recruited group. Connare kid from Ohio, and the WR from Nebraska look like the best catches.

Got my analysis up on the blog:

http://lehighfootballnation.blogspot.com

Of note, the complete list of video links are present on the right of each recruit as well as the announcement of each signing. I'll post more as people let me know if they're available.

I echo the same sentiments here in that it's uncharacteristically non-Lehigh Valley centric, and it shows a bigger national reach in recruiting. I'm most pleased by getting four tall receivers that hopefully will push for time right away.

I'll be looking for the Patsy rating...

Nice class with some nice star quality at QB,LB and OL. Whether it is competitve nationally hard to tell . Heck not even clear in the PL.
As to Tribe's comment probably correct overall.
Lum,Drwal,Liebler,Reich,Littlejohn,Lasker,Connare, Martin, Pelligrini and Newton are all heavily recruited kids

They mined the Garden State well - two kids from Bergen Catholic, among 4-5 others.

The local press review is in, and they seem to be very impressed with QB Chris Lum:

With the Sedale Threatt Era complete, much of the offseason speculation swirling around the Lehigh University football program was about who would become the team’s next quarterback.

The competition at QB just became a bit more intriguing with the official release of Lehigh’s recruits on Tuesday.

Coach Andy Coen was pleased with the entire list of 27 newcomers, but the name that probably attracted the most interest is quarterback Chris Lum, a 6-2, 190-pound Pontiac, Mich., product who was named all-state and passed for more than 3,000 yards in an injury-shortened career at Lake Orion High.

I think two of the OL's Pelligrini and Reich could be making early impact. For such a big kid, Vinny can move!

Lum could be the real diamond in the rough. Passed over by some Big 10- and Big 12 schools because of the broken arm. If he's fully recovered, we could have another Stambaugh in the making.
