Georgia Southern??? 36 sign LOI's? Not sure if another school has more.

Montana had 33.

Interesting that these two schools are traditional powers.

I think graduation hit hard this year and it's possible both teams may struggle next year.

Exactly, we lost 21 players to graduation from last seasons team. I look for us to struggle next season till these new kids get their feet wet. In the long run, I think we'll be alright though.

Part of what gave the Griz so many scholarships this was, was about 5 seniors didn't play in 2006 due to injury, and therefore received an extra year. I like the look of this class, and will be interested to see how many of these players are still around in 5 years, winning awards, etc.

Wow. I guess teams had better take advantage this year, because they'll have lots of returning starters in 2010.

Out of those 21 how many were lost to graduation and how many had just used up all their eligibility?

It's a rebuilding year for the Griz. We might lose 3 games.xlolx

Here's the breakdown on returners.

41 lettermen
11 starters out of the 22 from both sides of the ball plus our kick and punt returners.

Returning by class 2008
19 seniors
27 juniors
12 sophmores
8 redshirt freshmen

As you can see we'll have 46 upper classmen. The Griz will be just fine. Hauck says that 10 of our new recruits are ready right now to play FCS football, they will join the redshirt freshmen returning. 23 new recruits will redshirt in 2008.

Good question. We also lost three rising seniors to graduation: DL Jerry Barker, RB Sean Gray, and Travis Clark (starting QB in '06). Brandon Jackson declared for the NFL draft and Mike Hamilton are not returning.

It does appear that GSU and WCU are going to have very similar teams next season.

I do believe that both teams are rebuilding but both are doing it differently.
