Odd that I don't see conference-specific recruiting threads up here at all so I'm not sure if the moderators will move this/delete it in order to keep everything in the one recruiting thread on here. However, since I'm sick of going 'round to the various PL school specific boards or the old PL voy board to see what's up, I figured I'd start this in the hopes that we could have one PL source for everyone to post their recruiting updates.

As usual, it sounds to me like everyone's very pleased with whatever verbals they've received so far (Fordham included), so no surprises there. The one thing that I think it standing out for me, though, is that it sounds like Georgetown is putting together a very nice class which is great to hear. Who knows how it'll play out but it's good to see some nice recruits heading to DC, both skill position players as well as some big Olinemen.

So, what else does everyone have? How many 'commits' and who is standing out, in terms of reputation/expectations, from each school?

I have the full list of Lehigh's known commits on my blog.

http://lehighfootballnation.blogspot.com/2008/01/recruiting-what-do-we-know.html

These are all cross-referenced by media reports. There are probably others that are "rumors" but I don't list them.

Aside from Lehigh's being the "best recruiting class ever" ;) , there's a lot of announced commits on the CSN Log as well. Fordham, Georgetown, Colgate and Lehigh are well represented.

Great video clip of Pellegrini - looks like a great one.

Also, what number is Netwon (Newton?)? I would imagine you get a two-fer in that video clip if you knew what # he was on the Pellegrini clip.

It says this Wes perryman dude runs the 40 in 5.69, lets hope that is a misprint even for a Big Boy! I know the 40 doesnt really matter for linemen, but it is still an indication of there overall athleticism and explosiveness.

Perry will play NG @ Fordham. I dont care if he cant run as long as he's strong - stout enough to eat up space in the middle. Occupy the OC and OG and plug up the running game.

I hear you but hopefully he'll be clogging up that middle perfectly. He's one of the guys I'm really pumped about since it's in such a position of need for us AND the Air Force offer certainly gives hope and a nice data point that we may have gotten a good one/steal there.

As we noted on the Fordham board, the great thing about Taaffe at QB is the video highlights show him operating in the same spread O that we run, so it should help his learning curve right off the bat.

Now where's DFW or LBPop? I'm dying to know if they think that this is shaping up to be that breakthrough class for G-town or not.

He will want to go back to his school when it starts raining because of that nice turf they have.

I looked through all of his stuff, other than his very slow 40 time, what is his big flaw? A 6'4" 225 QB even with an ok arm is going to get a look by FBS teams.

The photo does not really do 12,000 seat Highlander Stadium justice. When it was rebuilt in 1979 it was a state of the art high school field with facilities better than SMU had down the street. It is a fully concrete facility with an expansive press box that only the larger school districts can even match today.

Hard to say, there are only six commits listed on the recruiting wire through last weekend.

A lean recruiting year would not be good for Georgetown or the PL, but it's getting to be a much tougher sell to get impact recruits to even consider it. I think this speaks to the school's decreased visibility in a league which seems to be a bit adrift right now.

Surprised to hear that. It seemed to me like there are a bunch of good gets, if I've been reading your board correctly. Also, it seems like you've landed 3 NJ guys from a link that appeared on our board today: http://blog.nj.com/hssportsextra/2008/02/hssportssigning.jpg.

If "good gets" mean out of town names, then yes, but I am concerned that the Washington Post has not listed a single local commit for Georgetown as of 12 noon today (for the record, Fordham has three).

Georgetown has not estabolished a strong local recruiting base and I think that has a direct impact on the state of the program. Out of just nine metro DC kids on the 2007 roster, four will return in 2008, two of which are kickers.

If a team does not have a local or regional base for recruiting it sets itself up for trouble when the majority of recruits play on teams that coaches don't follow on a regular basis. Put another way, success begins at home.

DFW is so right. My son is one of the "locals" who is graduating. Four years ago Georgetown seemed to be just getting started in recruiting the DC Metro area. Now the Post lists ZERO recruits from the area. I know that Georgetown does not officially release names, but I know that four years ago (when 3 local kids signed) their names appeared in the Post.

There were a bunch of FCS schools represented in today's list in the Washington Post, but I'm hoping there are one or two coming to Georgetown that the newspaper just missed. There are a bunch of DC kids succeeding in the Patriot and Ivy Leagues (and many other leagues, of course). Georgetown doesn't want 'em all...just a few each year.

Fair enough and agreed on the local ties point. What I was referring to, though, was what I read are the additions of what sounds like a great, option-running QB from Long Island as well as finally some beef up front in the form of some good linemen. In my opinion, the lineman thing is more of a crapshoot than most but one of the holes I thought I always read about you guys was size on the line and it sounded leading up to today as though at least the size thing was being addressed with this year's class.

Leopards have announced on signing day, just like last year:

http://www.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/stories/020608ahi.html

Unsurprisingly they're the only PL team that has announced. I'm working to get a partial Lehigh list together. Any other folks want to compile a list for their schools?

And, Gamso is not coming to Lehigh:

http://recruitingbuzz.beloblog.com/archives/2008/02/highland_parks_winston_gamso_backs_out.html

Gamso, who took the Scots to the 4A state final, planned to sign with Lehigh, but at 7 last night he called his college coaches to inform them he was backing out.

He said he has been struggling with this decision since returning from his visit to campus.

“It just didn’t feel right,” Gamso said. “It didn’t feel like it was a good environment for me. I didn’t feel like I fit in. I didn’t think I would be happy to spend four years of college there.”

Gamso said he still wants to play college football, perhaps as a walk on.

Are you really that suprised? There seems to be a couple standouts but for the most part they seem to be the "best of the rest". Although like i've been saying, what makes a team great is turning the fringe recruits into great players. Coen has his work cut out for him in a big way. seriously? Eachus is an absolute stud. Anyone familiar w/eastern PA football would know how dominant he was against some of the better AAAA teams in the state during they playoffs. Pretty sure he could have gone to Penn St. and other big schools as a preferred walk-on. Very big get imo for 'Gate and possibly their new starting RB in week 1.

I know from my hometown of Greenwich, CT there were 3 kids who are headed to Patriot League schools. Chris Bisanzo and Tucker Stafford, who went to Greenwich High Scool, are headed to Georgetown. These are two really great gets for G'town. I know that Stafford was offered by UNH and there were rumors he was offered by Duke as well. Also, Bisanzo was offered by UConn but decided that G'town was a better fit for him academically. Lastly, Michael Allwin, from the Brunswick School, a private school in Greenwich, is headed to Bucknell as an outside linebacker. Here is a link that provides more info:
http://www.greenwichtime.com/sports/scn-gt-lettersfeb07,0,7401049.story

Brunswick is the same school that sent Tyler McFarlane, Bucknell's starting safety this past year, to the Bison last year.

I thought we have a commit from Florida that is highly regarded...Plus we have the two from last year that are expected to fight it out for starter as Sophomores. QB is not the immediate concern for recruiting.

Colgate seems to be the most active recruiting wise of all PL schools in NEPA. Lafayette has all but ignored this area over the last few years , and Lehigh and Bucknell have picked up guys here and there, but not with the frequency of Colgate it appears.

Eachus is a hell of a back. Also fits in the old 'colgate mode' of bruising backs. I think the fact that we have a large stock of rb's right now, going to 'gate makes sense as he'll get a shot at playing a lot sooner.

Great, another headache to deal with. I predict he averages 5 yards per gain against Lafayette in his career, considering we get dominated by Colgate all the time.

It is also interesting to note that Holy Cross has a national reach, much like Fordham does. Even when HC was in the cellar, they had a collage of players from Michigan, Colorado, Texas, etc. I can understand Fordham, being in NYC with close links to the corporate world there, but HC must have the Catholic/Jesuit influence/appeal with many players and families.

It seems as if G'town's coach and staff are finally playing the academic card properly. G'town and Duke are comparable academically, whereas G'town has a chance to rise in the PL, Duke will likely remain in the ACC duldrums forever. Then again, at least Duke has a stadium. xrolleyesx

No doubt that there is going to be a battle in the spring for the QB spot with Bokosky and the freshman. Personally, I thank a wait-and-see attitude on the position is best to see who the starter will be - I think each kid should get a chance to prove themselves the starter.

Anyone get any local papers from the "Anthracite" and/or Reading area papers? They were eerily silent about recruiting in general on their websites. I combed those sites since Lehigh generally gets a recruit or two from up there, but nothing.

Also, I have run across the occasional Colgate, Bucknell and Georgetown recruit in my travels but I haven't been compiling lists (tracking down Lehigh's is tough enough!). I *may* throw a list up on my blog of those recruits but certainly not today.

There is a huge gap in my "signing day" reports from Reading and the heart of the "Anthracite" belt, to be fair. I think I only browsed the schools signing from the Scranton area (including Eachus, going to Colgate as mentioned previously). I think we will see significantly more PA recruits at Lehigh when all the names are in - guessing 7 or 8.

Official word on Eachus:

http://www.timesleader.com/sports/20080208_08_hs_foot_eachus_spt_ART.html

Throughout Nate Eachus’ senior season at Hazleton Area, the main question was whether he would continue wrestling at a Division I college program or continue playing football at a lower level.

There was a third – and perhaps decisive – factor that Eachus used in his choice to continue his academic and football careers at Colgate University.

Academics.

Holy Cross has had a nationa rep for many years, plus you'll see a lot of kids who went to Catholic HS's going there as well. Not to disparage HC in any way, since it is an excellent school, but if a family wants their kids to get a Jesuit education, but the grades aren't there to get into Georgetown (also Jesuit), HC and Fordham are not bad alternatives.

Oh, the truth really does hurt.;) If you have ever looked at a new subdivision right as they're breaking ground, the sales person would show you drawings and say something like, "Imagine the community pool here..." That's how Coach kelly has to deal with the stadium question.

Four years ago, that's what LBKid was told. He heard that the new stadium (called MSF) would be done before his senior season. He did get field turf, some nice brick walls/posts, and temporary stands with small plastic seats. However, he will leave with a Georgetown degree and that's why he's there. If they can sell that message (especially to some big linemen), they could make some noise in DC.

FWIW-from what I've seen, I also think Georgetown got some high quality recruits. I recall seeing 3 or 4 kids that had some pretty good FCS programs offering that decided to go to Georgetown. Maybe more of a quality class than quantity?

Bokosky was the soph last year who was pinch hitting for Threatt. However, I don't see him starting in September based upon reports I've heard about current Frosh Cisneros and Clark. Supposedly, both have very good arms and better size than Bokosky. There are now three recruits coming in who have been QB's in HS, although doubtful all will end up there, especially the one from Florida who seems like a potential starter as a DB this coming year.

You can find the unofficial (signings have not been released by the University, probably wont be until Spring) list of Gtowns recruiting class at the following link:
http://www.hoyasaxa.com/sports/football.htm

That is probably not a complete list and there are two other commitments (from NJ) I have stumbled across that are not on that list. Overall it looks pretty good IMO. Lots of QBs (two of which where 2 star rated by rivals) and for what its worth (probably not much) about 10-12 players listed on rivals or scout.

He apparently had interest from Michigan, Virginia, North Carolina and others for wrestling, but seriously who wants to wrestle when you can play football? Wresting = always cutting weight and getting no respect. By the way Nate's dad is a PA state rep and a great guy, and very smart.

This is a great pick up for Colgate. A super student (4.00+) and PA state wrestling champ last year. He'll be in the mold of a Van Eeghan...unfortunately...:(

Too brief for the log but another recruit for Colgate has rolled in from... drumroll.... Log Angeles, CA:

http://www.dailynews.com/sports/ci_8330694

Jakarri Hamlin, a Harvard-Westlake of Studio City defensive lineman, has committed to play football at Colgate. Hamlin, a 6-foot-3, 250-pounder, also plays on the basketball team.

"Jakarri really liked his visit to Colgate," Harvard-Westlake coach Vic Eumont said. "He was going to visit Lehigh, too. They were interested, but he liked Colgate so much that he canceled."

There's a little more in the original article.
