The Atlanta Falcons announced today the activation of S Cam Newton to the 53-player roster from the team's practice squad, the signing of free agent CB Chris Cash and the placement of DE Benard Thomas to the practice squad.

Newton, 6-1, 203 pounds, was originally signed by the Falcons as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Furman and spent the first two weeks on Atlanta's practice squad.

Cash, 5-10, 185 pounds, was originally drafted in the sixth round of the 2002 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions and has seen action in 27 games with 17 starts for the Lions. He has totaled 142 tackles, two interceptions, 19 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in his career.

Thomas, 6-4, 263 pounds, was a two-year starter at Nebraska and was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Jacksonville Jaguars on April 24, 2005.

In order to make room for the additions, the Falcons have waived CB Leigh Torrence and RB DeAndra Cobb.
