It's been reported elsewhere that Lehigh has received a commitment from a kicker named Alex Smith from Lake Brantley, FL and who supposedly has a 'big time' leg. Also reported that he broke his leg last year in a soccer game and reason why some bigger schools may have shied away. Anyone know of this. With our kicker graduating next year, having another good leg, assuming no complications with healing, will be nice.

From what I read the kid has a very strong leg. One of Coen's strategies seems to be go after high level kids who can't play much in there senior years because of injury. These kids tend to be overlooked by the "big boys". He did the same thing last year very successfully with Jarren Walker.

Kickers are a coin flip - you never know what you're going to get. UD had one of those big-leg kickers from Florida in '05 and '06, but he couldn't compare to the walk-on guy we used this year who went from walk-on to All-American. Too many differences between high school and college to get a good read. Kinda like how a good college kicker doesn't automatically mean a good pro kicker.

What's it like to actually have a kicker that can be consistent from 35 yds and can get a KO deeper than the 20??? We haven't had one for 3 yrs.

Which is wierd becuase you would think that of all the positions on the field, the kicker would be the most consistent from high school to college.

Yes, sounds like a very good one. Plus, being the HS QB as well indicates alot of athleticsm which gives you several options. The stuff that has been dribbling around seems to point to another class with very good potential..and that's about all we'll ever know...

Sort of like how villanova's kicker was like number 5 in the nation according to rivals yet his first two years he was only good for kickoffs
