Southland Conference Announces Commissioner's Fall Academic Honor Roll

FRISCO, Texas - The Southland Conference announced today that 553 student-athletes have been named to the Commissioner’s Fall Academic Honor Roll.

McNeese led all schools with 70 on the commissioner’s academic honor roll. Highlighting those student-athletes was 2007 SLC Women’s Soccer Student Athlete of the Year Kamryn Koch, who posted a 3.25 grade point average in general studies. In addition, Cowboy football student-athletes David Ballard and Brant Linde were named CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selections, posting a 3.67 and 3.73 in gpa in general studies and accounting, respectively.

Presented by CaptialOne Bank, the honor roll recognizes student-athletes who competed in league championship sports during the fall semester and maintained a 3.0 semester grade point average while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours. Each Southland institution is responsible in selecting the student-athletes for the fall roll.

NOTE - McNeese's 11-0 Regular Season 2007 SLC Championship football team also placed a total of 36 players (8 more than any other team) on the Honor Roll list.

Congrats to McNeese...

SHSU will need a strong performance in the spring to keep alive it's streak of having the most student-athletes on the Commissioners Honor Roll for I believe, the third or fourth year in a row...

Best of luck to all student-athletes in the SLC!

McNeese finally got rid of their old Athletic Academic Advisior who was NOT a sports fan, and was a lazy @$$ bi_t_h. We hired a true sports fan, with blue and gold blood that CARES deeply for her students and goes above and beyond in her job.

PLUS, Tommy Tate did not look over things like he should have. Viator, REQUIRES his assistant coaches to monitor the players under them constanty. THAT makes a huge difference.

We know how critical that is -- parents of student-athletes call our academic AD the "deal closer" as her presentation has sealed many of deals. Our athletic department's success on the field (the three consecutive Commish Cups) looks great, but it also helps that our athletes have produced the highest GPA in the conference in addition to leading the Commissioner Honors placements.

Academics is very critical to a success athletic department. Glad you folks in Lake Charles have a strong individual involved in that aspect. Here's to more SLC All-Academic All-Americans!

Picture the biggest, fattest, uglest, State Worker at a DMV office in New Orleans, that just went to bed at 3:AM before she has to get up and go do a job she hates.

That is what we had.

But now we have someone who loves their job, and the kids too.

Big difference and I guess it shows.
