CULLOWHEE – First-year Western Carolina coach Dennis Wagner completed his football staff on Thursday with the hiring of former Duke assistant Brad Sherrod.

Sherrod will coach the Catamounts’ running backs, the same position he coached at Duke last year.

Wagner had previously hired Keith Heckendorf (offensive coordinator), Matt Pawlowski (defensive coordinator), Andy Follett (receivers coach/recruiting coordinator) and Steven Clinkscales (defensive backs/academic liaison).

Wagner also retained John Scott (defensive line), who remained on staff and handled daily operations after previous head coach Kent Briggs was fired.

Also, NINE current players have been shown the door by Coach Wagner for attitude problems, grade problems, or a combination of both.

Certainly hope so. Was told yesterday that a few more may be gone after he runs their butts ragged during pre-Spring conditioning drills. The man expects and DEMANDS perfection and doesn't play favorites unlike the previous guy.
