Monarch Nation, I was just getting ready to post the same information. I heard Coach Wilder on the radio today and he stated they wanted to fill most dates in 2008 with FCS opponents.xnodx

I rode by the school this week and they are certainly moving along on the practice fields and football offices. They have also started working on the parking garage next to Foreman Field. Renovations of the stadium itself are scheduled to begin this summer (I think July/August).xthumbsupx

I can't wait for Feb. 6th when our first recruiting class is announced.xrotatehx

So will these students enter college in 2008, then begin play in 2009? If so, does that mean their eligibility begins in 2009? Great to see another school joining the FCS ranks, good luck with the implementation of your program! xthumbsupx

Our first recruiting class will enter school in September as RS/Freshmen. We will have another group of recruits join the squad in spring 2009 (HS, transfers, JC).
Our first game will take place on Saturday night, September 5, 2009.

So you first class will only have 4 years of eligibility? Thats too bad, but good luck with the program nonetheless! xnodx

ODU gets three home games in 2009 with Monmouth, PU and G'Town. Three road games in 2010. Why would you do that? Split those up! Unless, your loading up on other foes...

When do they do CAA? 2011, 2012?

Monarch Nation
January 11th, 2008, 07:41 AM
We look to be a full fledged member of the CAA in 2011. Possibly some of the current members of the CAA will be part of our pre-league schedules, but that's just speculation.

A little more in-depth article in this morning's Virginian Pilot:
Monarchs to host Georgetown, Monmouth, Presbyterian in '09 (http://hamptonroads.com/2008/01/monarchs-host-georgetown-monmouth-presbyterian-09)

So Cornell and G-town will be 2 of ODU's 3 OOC games when they go full-time in the CAA in 2011. Thanks for the info.

The Tribe will be looking for a home OOC game in 2009, and I hope it is ODU. We could get the rivalry going with that, and a trip to Norfolk in 2010, and then get serious when ODU joins the CAA South in 2011. These games will be sellouts!xthumbsupx

I would be surprised if we played W&M that first year. I think 2010 might be a greater likelihood that a game occurs. Even then we would more than likely be prohibited underdogs.

I could see us playing the likes of Towson, Maine, and Northeastern before those upper tier CAA schools. (No disrespect meant to those three schools.) xpeacex

xrotatehx Thanks for the compliment, but we haven't exactly been upper tier ourselves these past couple of years.xpeacex

NU's schedules are pretty full through 2012, I believe.

From what I was told here are our OOC games... I've heard from Colgate people that they heard about the home/home, but the Albany/SBU games I'm less confident about)

2009 - @ Boston College, Youngstown State, Holy Cross
2010 - @ UConn, Colgate, Albany (not sure which of Colgate and Albany are home, but one is)
2011 - @ FBS (Army/Navy), Colgate, @ Holy Cross
2012 - @ FBS, Albany, Stony Brook (we'll play one of them home, and one away)
2013 - @ FBS, Holy Cross, Stony Brook

Congrats to ODU on getting their program up and running... Looks like you guys already got a good start on some recruits... I saw a couple of commits that could play D1 A ball... go to rivals.com and you'll see what I mean... I just looked at the virtual tour on ODU's website as well... impressive... You guys will be my new favorite D1 AA team... I'm a fan for life...

I'm hoping ODU can get a home/home with my beloved Mountaineers. I'd love to get to see a game close to home.

Maybe in a couple of years a home-and-home series can be arranged. I'm not sure Coach Wilder would want to take his new team to slaughter for several years or until we might become more competitive.

I assume you mean their first class will only have four years in the program, not four years of eligibility. You're only allowed four years of eligibility.

ODU's first class will all redshirt. They don't start playing until 2009.

Saw on the local news that Wilder is holding a tryout day for students in February, and thet they have about 75 guys signed up who want to be walk-ons.

Hey, great news on the first opponent, now you have an actual target to look forward to. Congrats!!! (p.s. don't lose to Chowan, it won't look good for the CAA right out of the gate!!! :p )

No, they'll have 5 years to play 4. The first year, when there are no games, they will redshirt and will open play in 2009 as Redshirt Freshmen.

Tribe4SF, have you seen any of these three young men play on the Peninsular?
