A Look at the Nations Best Players by Position

Melville, NY – Today the SME Network released their listing for the 2007 “Stars of the Year”. The finalists were compiled from our Weekly Stars list throughout the season. The following is the listing for our 2007 “Stars of the Year”:

QB - Armanti Edwards, Appalachian State
Edwards showed his versatility while leading the Mountaineers to their third straight national championship. In the playoffs, Edwards completed 50-of-70 passes for 727 yards and eight touchdowns while rushing for 660 yards and eight scores on the ground. What’s even more amazing is he never turned the ball over in the playoffs. Edwards set a new NCAA Division I record for most rushing yards by a quarterback with 313 rushing yards in the Mountaineers semifinal victory over Richmond. Despite missing four and a half games due to injury, Edwards still finished the year 148-of-222 passing for 1,948 yards and 17 touchdowns. The sophomore QB rushed 237 times for 1,588 yards and 21 touchdowns.

RB - Omar Cuff, Delaware
The senior running back started all 15 games for the Blue Hens to help lead them to the national championship game. Cuff ended his college career with a great senior season setting single-season school records with 398 carries for 1,945 yards and set a FCS record with 39 touchdowns. Cuff was not afraid to catch passes out of the backfield either, making 55 catches for 554 yards.

OL - Wofford unit
The Terriers ranked second in FCS in rushing offense as the o-line helped the Terriers advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Behind the o-line, the Terriers running backs racked up 4,026 yards on 771 carries for an average of 5.22 yards per carry.

WR - Terrell Hudgins, Elon
There was no sophomore slump for the Phoenix’s 6’2, 226 pound receiver. Hudgins set single-season Elon records with 117 catches for 1,474 yards, and 18 touchdowns. Hudgins also set a SoCon single-season record with seven games of receiving for 100 yards or more yards. He had one of his best games against Liberty with a program-record 16 receptions and four touchdown catches. Hudgins was one of the best receivers in FCS leading the nation with 10.6 receptions per game and 134 receiving yards per game. He ranked 11th in scoring with 9.8 points per contest.

TE - Scott Sicko, New Hampshire
Sicko was a favorite target of UNH QB Ricky Santos this year. Sicko was second on the Wildcats with 51 catches and ranked third with 619 receiving yards and six touchdown receptions.

DL - Kroy Biermann, Montana
The 6’3, 241 pound senior was an imposing force for the Grizzlies as he led Montana and the Big Sky Conference with 15 sacks, second in the nation. Biermann also registered 18 tackles for loss and five forced fumbles to go along with 72 total tackles. Biermann helped lead the Grizzlies to a perfect 11-0 regular season. Montana’s defense led the Big Sky and was second in the nation in scoring defense surrendering just 14.8 points per game.

LB - Brannon Carter, Northern Iowa
Carter was a defensive force as he led the Panthers with 88 total tackles and led the Gateway Conference with five interceptions. Carter was also a big reason why UNI led all of FCS in scoring defense in the regular season.

DB - Ladarius Webb, Nicholls State
The junior safety was impressive for Nicholls State intercepting five passes and returning three of them for a touchdown. Two of his interceptions returned for touchdowns occurred in a 58-0 win over Northwestern State. Webb finished the year with 51 tackles.

ST - Justin Rogers, Richmond
The 5’10, 165 pound freshman showed off his speed throughout the season for the Richmond Spiders setting single-season school records with 1,002 kickoff return yards, two touchdowns, and an average of 30.4 yards per kickoff return.

PLAYER WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING MORE OF NEXT SEASON: Scott Riddle, QB – Elon
As a true freshman, Scott Riddle started all 11 games that the Phoenix played this season. Averaging 347 passing yards per game, Riddle also threw for 31 touchdowns.
