2024 Schedule
Aug. 31 VMI
Sept. 7 at Coastal Carolina
Sept. 14 at Wofford
Sept. 21 Furman
Sept. 28 Hampton* (Family Weekend)
Oct. 5 at Towson*
Oct. 19 Campbell* (Homecoming)
Oct. 26 at Stony Brook*
Nov. 2 at North Carolina A&T*
Nov. 9 Elon* (Military Appreciation Game)
Nov. 16 Bryant*
Nov. 23 at Richmond*

Not bad in my view:
1) strong OOC. VMI and Furman are historical rivals travel well
2) Elon has become another strong rival and it looks to me like the CAA is keeping this game in a permanent cycle.
3) We get nearby Hampton early and parents weekend. Should be another big crowd.
4) Campbell has “Elon” potential as a future rival. Like having them for Homecoming.
5) No Villanova or UD, a downside.

Who among the CAA teams have the weirdest schedule (OOC) for 2024?

Monmouth and Rhody are the two candidates for me. The former going Northwest to play in the red turf as the first East Coast opponent to ever play there; the latter opening with a team having a lot of question marks coming into this season like them, then heading off to the Midwest to play the Goofies.

I don't think there will be any scalps from the CAA as well this coming season.

My vote is for Maine.....maybe the weirdest OOC road schedule in all of FCS.....at Montana State, at Merrimack and at Oklahoma.

Certainly an oddity that Villanova hosts Youngstown State and Albany travels to Idaho reprising 2023 playoff matchups.

Tribe may have the best shot at a scalp at Coastal Carolina.

Spiders took a 38-0 drubbing in playoffs 2016 at Eastern Washington, I think it was red then. Of course, it was covered with ice and/or snow. Wasn't a regular season game however so may not count for this discussion.

Somewhere yesterday I read where each member was scheduled to have only one game of eight that would require air travel. I guess for W&M that would be Stony Brook,

We also play 5 teams we played last year and 3 new ones. I think it’s important in building rivalries to settle on some arrangement like that. Richmond and Hampton should be given as I hope Elon and Campbell are as well.

If you’re an NC A&T fan, amazing how many games, CAA z and OOC, they have scheduled within Greensboro or short bus away.

No Richmond or W&M for Maine either. I knew that W&M wouldn't have to make a return trip to Orono and neither does Campbell.xrolleyesx Maine has to go to Elon this fall.....no way we see them in Orono in 2025. Maine is on a permanent "travel to the South but they don't have to return games" rotation.

I'd much rather see Nova play the Spiders and the Tribe every year than the new additions to the conference. If that's not the case going forward then yes time to flee the CAA and take you guys with us.. Patriot or a brand new conference.

I'd much rather see Nova play the Spiders and the Tribe every year than the new additions to the conference. If that's not the case going forward then yes time to flee the CAA and take you guys with us.. Patriot or a brand new conference.

W&M to the Patriot for all sports and Villanova and Richmond to the Patriot for football makes a lot of sense.....would love to see it happen!

the ice is starting to crack and Delaware got off the frozen pond

They opened the door to the basement and were so afraid by what they saw, they ponied up 5 million just to get the heck out

Your AD said it was for “money and marketing”. Aside from sounding foolish - as if you’re getting a gold mine either way - thinking Kennesaw is any stature or fan interest upgrade from Campbell seems very naive.

UD just paid 5M to move to the basement.

W&M fan talking trash to Delaware fan is just precious. Delaware will be hosting UMass, UConn, Temple, JMU, etc in OOC games sooner rather than later.....in addition to C-USA opponents like Liberty, Sam Houston & New Mexico State....so don't try and make the CAA's pathetic slate sound better than where they are going.

SB, I’m the boogeyman on gohens right now for even mentioning that Buffalo stinks and they lost to an FCS team last year and the 2024 FCS schedule with no playoffs is not really getting the juices flowing.

The fans that post on gohens had no desire to remain in what the CAA is now. The thing is we don’t really know what the fans that aren’t posting think.

My heart is with FCS but at the same time, it sure seems like it was time to move on

If you’re an NC A&T fan, amazing how many games, CAA z and OOC, they have scheduled within Greensboro or short bus away.

it's an excellent schedule travel-wise. The only thing I would have like to see is us not going to Baltimore and Philadelphia back-to-back weekends. My hope is that we fly to both cities.

I wish you guys were staying, but I can see why the move happened. I think in time conference affiliations will change and UD will have a more regional group of teams to play. Might take a while though. I do find it funny how people are laughing at UD's move.

Personally I think SBU's move has been a significantly more hilarious/sad.

I enjoy the back and forth with you. And agree on Gohens, there is no patience there or respect for any other than the prevailing view. You are always respectful. Not wishing it doesn’t work just going by having watched any number moving up and just the layout of this new home. The fact that UD missed the financial cutoff - to the tune of $4.95M - by a month shows that it has been a little sloppy from the start. And this is an all sports move. A similar all sports move by ODU killed their basketball program. And I don’t buy this new excitement assumption with younger fans. I think younger fans think going big time in football means a steady diet of Penn State and Maryland, not Kennesaw and UTEP.

Time will tell but a lot of things need to go well to include winning. The Hens built their current fan base by consistently winning .

Our schools played each other for a ten year stretch 2008-2017 and I think both fan bases got used to the annual meetings. I know I attended all five games in Williamsburg during that stretch and IIRC Tribe4SF and his friends attended all games in Durham. Difficult to believe there hasn't been a game since 2017. Among my numerous objections to a PL affiliation for the Tribe is travel. Terrible excursions to Bucknell, Lehigh, Lafayette, Holy Cross and Colgate with Colgate the worst. Fly into Syracuse and stay there because there are no hotels near Hamilton. Rent a vehicle and drive an hour each way to the game. Made the trip in 2021. Only good thing was we tailgated right outside the visitor side and went in and out to have a drink. No one ever checked for tickets. Attendance was 1100.

Was wondering when someone was going to mention the travel associated with such a move

Last time I left Williamsburg headed north, I looked for a different backwoods route that I could use that would keep me off I95 and east of congested DC. I’ve seen the bridge crossing over the York river at Yorktown way to many times too have never been over it. I was pressed for time so I didn’t go that way, but it could be done if you’ve got some extra time on your hands. Route is a winding road that crosses the Rappahannock and Potomac and then through La Plata, Md east over Chesapeake Bay bridge and besides, an area of the country I’ve never seen before. Having said all that, I wasn’t trying to get to Bucknell or Lehigh.

I like driving over the CBBT (minus the narrow tunnel part when you wonder if the guy driving the tractor trailer is awake) and up Route 13 through the peace and tranquillity of eastern shore Virginia as well.

Done Richmond to NY many times and always take 301 into MD, over the Bay Bridge which is stunning every time, then about 10 miles over, I think it’s route 124 up through Chestertown and into Elkton. It’s no shortcut but I also avoid DC at all costs and overall a very pleasant drive.

Others I know will take 64 west to 81north. You can flip to 76 in Harrisburg or to 84 in Scranton to head back east to NY or New England.

I see that Chestertown route you mentioned on the map, it looks like a country 2 lane road but that’s fine with me. I just used 81 from Birmingham to NY as well, had never been that way before, not that bad for traffic until in Pennsylvania.

If I was a William & Mary or Richmond fan, the Southern Conference would be my choice of geography just for the hospitality if nothing else, still some long drives though

The Chestertown route is very scenic and goes through some beautiful old historic towns.

The drives south are pretty easy, basically to Greensboro and Raleigh. Both are nice weekend destinations, 3 to 4 hour drives. For So Con members, you really have to consider it starts in South Carolina which are much longer trips, 6 hours minimum. The CAA has basically taken North Carolina away from the So Con.

William & Mary and Richmond were members of the SoCon but left the conference when the 1A / 1AA spilit occured - neither team wanted to go to the lower Sub-Division. So they both stumbled along as 1A Independents unable to convince either the ACC or SEC to let'em in. Finally, in desperation, they suffered the indignation and scorn of fellow Virginians and joined something called the YANKEE Conference and committed to 1AA level football.

Inaccurate.

Richmond left the SoCon in 1976. William & Mary departed in 1977.
The SoCon was reclassified to I-AA in 1982.

Richmond and William & Mary both were reclassified as Division I-AA also in 1982. Hence, they both “committed to 1AA level football” in 1982; just as the SoCon did…and 4-10 years before joining the Yankee Conference.

Richmond was D1 Independent in ‘76 & ‘77. The Spiders were D1-A Independent from ‘78 (when I-AA was created) until ‘81 and then I-AA Independent from ‘82-‘85 until joining the Yankee Conference in 1986.

W&M was D1 Independent in ‘77, D1-A Independent from ‘78-‘81 and I-AA Independent from ‘82-‘92 until they they joined the Yankee Conference in 1993.

Their departures from the SoCon coincided with the 1976 admittance of Western Carolina, Chattanooga, and Marshall to the Southern Conference. Whether the Indians and the Spiders departed because they felt those 3 schools lacked academic prestige / admittance standards with which they were comfortable competing or if they presciently knew the A / AA split was coming 3-7 years in the future and the SoCon was going to (eventually) be on the side of that split which they did not desire to reside are both reported reasons for their departures. FUBeAR was focused on moving from his Learner’s Permit to his License at the time, so he has no knowledge or opinion of the accuracy or weight of either or both of those reasons. Both seem likely…but … bottom line … neither Richmond or W&M spent 1 more day at a ‘higher classification’ than the SoCon schools from which they departed.

Wrong on multiple fronts. W&M and Richmond left the So Con in 1977, six seasons before the split. The reason they left is the So Con began expanding west (TN) and further south. The effort then was to align a new league with ECU, Temple and Rutgers but that never came together. Once 1AA was formed in 1983, W&M worked to form the Colonial League (now Patriot) but left before it became active due to scheduling restrictions, scholarship restraints and lack of playoff participation. Richmond then joined the Yankee, W&M remained independent. By the time W&M did make a move (1993), I believe it was the A10.

Wrong Spitting Bull. The "Indians" were in the Yankee Conference from 1993-96. My simple Reader's Digest version would be right on target by changing "when" the split occurred to "in anticipation of" the split occurring. Perhaps as FUBear suggests, W&M and Richmond were also not happy about schools not up to their lofty and elitist standards joining SoCon. In contrast you're rationalization of why they left - forming new leagues with teams that nevered happened, is an explanation of W&M reaction to a bad decision, NOT the reason they left the SoCon.

The battle between when and whether UR and W&M joined the YanCon or A-10 is null and void when you consider the A-10 just absorbed administration of the league in 1996. Just as when CAA Football took over in 2007. It's the same league dating back to 1947.

It’s kind of like arguing over who discovered America…. As The Tribe was already here

Could we end this stupid ass pissing contest and get back to "THE CAA 2024 Mega thread". Who cares if the chicken came before the egg. I don't.

Anyone here know about Steve Lynch, backup QB at Sacred Heart? Kid's film looks good (all films look good, that's why they are called highlights) and he had an offer out of Maine, with interest from Temple, Delaware, and Rutgers out of HS (some reports are Temple offered him). He just committed to Albany. Big kid at 6'3, 225. Played a year for former Tampa Bay Buc Mike Alstott (kid transferred to Florida from Jersey for a year), who transformed him from a RB/LB to a QB. Had big numbers out of high school.

Suddenly, Albany's QB room is pretty busy. The kid from Wisconsin has three years eligibility (seemingly the front runner for the job), a very highly touted frosh in Van Weber, and Lynch has four years as he RS at SHU. Clearly, Albany recruiting to manage losses in the portal. Not sure they would have brought an FBS, FCS, and a highly touted frosh group of players in at the same time in any other year. That said, none of the transfers could pan out (we had numerous FBS QB transfers who were straight up busts).

SO, anyone have info on this Lynch kid (from Maine or SHU fans...or football fans in Jersey)?

Also, looks like Maine made a big splash in the portal with the Mercer QB. Watched him play a couple of times and he will do well in the CAA. CAA QBs have had a very good last two years and I think it's helping the teams attract lateral and drop down (FBS) talent that they otherwise might not see.

A&T makes an interesting hire for our OC. We jumped into the SWAC, pulling in Texas Southern's OC David Marsh.

What's interesting is that his QB Andrew Body was in the Transfer Portal but he decided to go to Alabama State where they hired our old OC Chris Barnette.

Fascinating.

You are going into some really great history but think about ALL of the schools that did not have programs 50 years ago. The core of the SoCon was gutted by the formation of the ACC. App, GaSouthern, Marshall, WCU, ETSU, UTC saved the SoCon when they set 1-AA in early 80's The culture of these programs and their loss has really hurt the FCS

App, GaSouthern, Marshall, WCU, ETSU, UTC saved the SoCon when they set 1-AA in early 80's

The culture of these programs and their loss has really hurt the FCS
So much wrong here…

The SoCon successfully negotiated its 1st significant opportunity to adapt, survive, and thrive in 1932 when 13 schools (Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, University of the South (Sewanee), Tennessee, Tulane, and Vanderbilt) departed to form the SEC. This left 10 schools (Virginia, Clemson, North Carolina, NC State, Maryland, Washington & Lee, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, VMI, and Duke) in the SoCon.

The SoCon successfully negotiated its 2nd significant opportunity to adapt, survive, and thrive in 1953 when 7 schools (Clemson, Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, NC State, South Carolina, and Wake Forest) departed to form the ACC. This, again, left 10 schools (Washington & Lee, Virginia Tech, VMI, Furman, Richmond, William & Mary, The Citadel, Davidson, George Washington, and West Virginia) in the SoCon.

As far as the 6 schools you cited as having “saved the SoCon…in early 80’s” …

* Appy had been in the SoCon for 11 years when the SoCon moved to I-AA in 1982.
* Marshall, UTC, and WCU had been in the SoCon for 6 years when the SoCon moved to I-AA in 1982.
* ETSU had been in the SoCon for 4 years when the SoCon moved to I-AA in 1982.
* GaSou didn’t join the SoCon until 10 years after the SoCon moved to I-AA in 1982.

FUBeAR was playing in the SoCon when the SoCon moved to I-AA in 1982. FUBeAR can assure that there was absolutely no sense of the 5 schools cited as having “saved the SoCon” in any way. And, of course, the other 6th school cited, GaSou, which didn’t even have an NCAA Football Team in 1982, was most certainly not viewed as a ‘savior.’ Furman, The Citadel, and VMI were the other 3 SoCon schools at the time and finished 1st, 4th, and 6th, respectively, in the 8-team SoCon Football standings in 1982.

In fact, as previously mentioned here, some say that the SoCon admitting Marshall, UTC, and WCU in 1976 was the primary catalyst for the departure of William & Mary and Richmond in 1976 and 1977, respectively. So, some would contend those 3 schools hurt, rather than “saved,” the SoCon.

FUBeAR does not miss the “culture” of Marshall Football at all. If he did, he could just go spend some time visiting prisoners in the Atlanta Fulton County Jail and get that ol’ Blundering Turd vibe flowing once again.

The only thing FUBeAR misses about Appy Football and GaSou Football is the number of tickets their fans would buy when they played at Furman. He doesn’t miss their teams or fans at all; just the contents of their fans’ wallets / money belts / coffee cans.

My thoughts were confirmed, today. Gattuso has told the media this is likely his last contract and his goal is to keep us on a winning path for the next three years, which would lead to his handing over the reigns. He prefers to hand them over to someone on his current staff, per his comments. My guess is Ambrose or Nessalt.

The only true obvious one is UNCW. College of Charleston is A-10 or bust and the other considerations have football and dealt with the possibilities of a A-SUN/Big South mash-up.

It's unlikely. The only way this happens is if W&M decides the SoCon is better for them and the southern half of the conference evaporates.

For 2024, below are the CAA/FBS matchups with payouts shown where available.

Only three members are NOT playing an FBS opponent in 2024: Bryant, Hampton and ironically, Delaware.

Monmouth @ FIU
URI @ Minnesota
Campbell @ Liberty
Maine @ Oklahoma ($635,000)
UAlbany @ West Virginia ($475,000)
Richmond @ Virginia ($450,000)
Villanova @ Maryland ($425,000)
Towson @ Cincinnati ($400,000)
UNH @ UCF ($350,000)
Stony Brook @ Marshall ($330,000)
W&M @ Coastal Carolina ($325,000)
NC A&T @ Wake Forest ($325,000)
Elon @ Duke

One reason you won’t see too many future CAA match-ups with recent member move-ups is money. The two cheapest payouts among FCS/FBS payouts in 2024 are JMU (Wagner) and UMass (Merrimack) - both paying $250,000 for the games.

I haven’t heard any official announcement, but if you believe the Delaware football roster Terence Archer has been named OC at Delaware as Carty finally ready to hand it over and become a full time head coach

Title:Assistant Head Coach - Offense / Offensive Coordinator / Wide Receivers

Thanks man- did not hear this- he was a teammate of mine way back at MU and a really solid human being. Have not been in touch at all since he left Monmouth as a Coach but its in his blood. Very happy for him.

I guess it remains to be seen if he’s actually gonna be calling the plays, I hope so, because Carty needs to give that duty up and become a head coach

For 2024, below are the CAA/FBS matchups with payouts shown where available.

Only three members are NOT playing an FBS opponent in 2024: Bryant, Hampton and ironically, Delaware.

Monmouth @ FIU
URI @ Minnesota
Campbell @ Liberty
Maine @ Oklahoma ($635,000)
UAlbany @ West Virginia ($475,000)
Richmond @ Virginia ($450,000)
Villanova @ Maryland ($425,000)
Towson @ Cincinnati ($400,000)
UNH @ UCF ($350,000)
Stony Brook @ Marshall ($330,000)
W&M @ Coastal Carolina ($325,000)
NC A&T @ Wake Forest ($325,000)
Elon @ Duke

One reason you won’t see too many future CAA match-ups with recent member move-ups is money. The two cheapest payouts among FCS/FBS payouts in 2024 are JMU (Wagner) and UMass (Merrimack) - both paying $250,000 for the games.

TBH, Both recent FBS call-ups UD and JMU could and should be able to pay $350,000 - $500,000 for a game against their former conference mates. However, I believe they're chasing Home and Home contracts or 7-figure P4 contracts. That's difficult to schedule a CAA game with those two goals.

Plus, in a future year, A&T travels to Atlanta to play Georgia State (Former CAA Member). IIRC, the game contract is somewhere betwee $350,000 and $450,000.

Kyle Kensing needs a talking too

We’ve already seen the best were going to see from Ryan O’Connor, he’s been pretty good, but I just don’t see any more upside

I think Zach Marker is the better QB for Delaware, problem is he got hurt in the Nova game and had knee surgery so not sure if he’s going to be ready to go

The Freshman that started in the Lafayette playoff game looked pretty good as well, Minucucci

Returning Starting QuarterbacksRyan O'Connor, DelawareWelcoming back a veteran playmaker is increasingly a luxury in college football with the present-day rules. Delaware embarks on its final CAA season in the unusual position of having two quarterbacks who showed their ability to effectively guide the offense a season ago.
Both Ryan O'Connor and Zach Marker impressed in significant snaps during the 2023 campaign. O'Connor was the primary starter on the Blue Hens' road to the FCS Playoffs, throwing 19 touchdowns in 10 games and surpassing 2,100 yards through the air.
Marker also showed plenty of potential in five appearances, during which he completed 42-of-65 pass attempts for 678 yards.
O'Connor is the clear-cut No. 1, however, and a candidate for CAA honors. He passed for three touchdowns and four touchdowns twice each in 2023 and exceeded 300 yards on four occasions. A year of experience in coach Ryan Carty's high-tempo offense should see O'Connor take another jump in 2024.

It lays it all out there very accurately, whoever wrote it really did their homework. It's too early to say which teams with new starting QBs will be the winners and losers. I don't really agree that the CAA has an abundance of top QBs returning to their 2023 teams - of that lot I'd say Darius Wilson is the surest bet. The combination of O'Conner and Marker makes Delaware look solid at QB, and Watkins (Nova) looks strong, although he'll have to do it with most of his 2023 WR and RB targets gone. I really never saw the other QBs mentioned as returners play, so I don't have any thoughts on them.

I'm pretty sure Williams committed first, Sluka seems cocky enough to think he'll beat anyone out. I guess their hedging their bets out in Las Vegas, but you'd know the best term for that better than I.

I hear that and agree- either way we get Del at our place this year so I am looking forward to seeing him. C-Hen- you know I am a rosy eyed Hawks fan who usually over estimates our capability but in doing so, use real evidence- The end result has not been what I expected and NO EXCUSES BUT the reality is the last two seasons were really not far off from being a second tier contender (8 win type playoff team who cannot compete with the big boys but if things go well can be right there with everyone else)- I know some would reply "yeah if my aunt had balls she would be by uncle" but the difference between the 4-5 wins and 8-9 wins for us was RAZOR thin- I know this can be said for several teams but when you combine 2022 and 2023 for us, we had 7 losses that were less than 1 score- and 3 more that were 10 pts. So we were "right there".. Ok it is in the past, so what is my point? Well for the first year in a long time, I have absolutely no clue what to expect. I have not always been someone who says we were going to be good. There were many years I knew we would be average or subpar (but well before I started getting really involved here). But rarely have I had no feel at all.

Football is weird- Sometimes the teams you think will be "the one" end up underperforming and the ones you just cannot see matching up surprise. I suppose the portal stuff has a lot to do with the year to year fluctuations and not knowing what to expect. We lost a TON of production and other key players to graduation or transfer plus Shirden. One would think "wow if they couldnt get it done with all those guys, they are due for some pain" and that could happen, but I really am at a loss for the first time ever. Essentially an entirely new Offensive Line- lose top 2 WR's, new QB, Shirden gone, New Defensive Coordinator, entire starting DB's gone plus top two backups. Sounds bleak. The one thing that I do see us having is an improved defense. We got a couple very under the radar but good transfers and return several DL and up and coming LB's.. Ironically, the main weakness we had from 2017-2023 was the front 7 and that finally could actually be a strength which will help negate the loss of all our DB's. But everything else is a question mark. Our starting RB (Sone Ntoh) who was a Harvard transfer was very very good last year and although different than Shirden has the ability to be really good. Who knows about this Maine transfer at QB. Anyway, the end point I am getting at here is this- This year will test our coaching staff, depth and REALLY be a measure to see how our recruiting has been. Our 2022 season we had NO "CAA" recruits as the move was announced after everyone signed. So this season we will have 2 CAA classes and some of the younger sort of unknown guys- we will see if we really have improved the recruiting or if we still have guys that are a step away from being able to really compete. Several really good kids who have not played much yet. I like to use this example- Freshman year NOBODY knew Jaden Shirden and his Sophomore year entered the season as the backup! Then led FCS in rushing. Dymere Miler who was an All American and got 250k NIL to go to Rutgers had 20 catches for 250 yards as a Sophomore! all programs have these kids of course, but for the first time in as long as I can remember, we have really nobody at all who is heralded or who I can point to as someone who a team would game plan around and guess what? I think I like it!! Life is weird like that and sports even more weird. Not sure why I wrote all that but it is now June and my juices are starting to fire. I smelled some freshly cut grass yesterday and for a brief second In my mind I found myself as a 10 year old at Football practice.. For some, the Summer is about vacation and the beach and enjoyment. For me, it is about getting it over with so I can arrive at my happy place.

This is shocking to me. I met Williams family when they played us at MU in 2023 and they were very business like (the goal is to get him to the next level) so yes, doubt either one would settle for backup. Maybe UNLV plans on using Sluka as a hybrid of sorts, it is not like he really is a FBS passing QB, not even sure he was a good FCS passing QB. Maybe they will invent a new position for him LOL..

Sluka hands down is the better QB

No QB has meant more to his team than Matt Sluka @ Holy Cross. But that doesn't mean that he is a better fit than Williams for what ever style of play UNLV employs. I think Chesney was shrewd enough to fit HC's offense to Matt Sluka's style of play and was very successful in doing so. However, the further you move up the ladder the less likely a head coach is to do that. There is a reason why Sluka sat in the portal for two months before settling with UNLV. I'd have to think a lot of P5 programs passed on him before he made his decision. Even having stated this, I still wouldn't be surprised to see Sluka be very successful at any level - he is that kind of competitor.

Sluka hands down is the better QB

I am not sure about "hands down".. What makes Sluka "Sluka" is his running ability and ability to keep plays alive. As a "passer" there is simply no way anyone can say he is great or better than any number of FCS QB's.. so if you want to be a team that has a QB who essentially makes video game plays with his legs but probably cannot go out and win the game passing the ball, great- I respect Sluka, but if you run a pro style offense that depends on making precise 12 yard outs from the far hash and throwing the ball, Sluka isn't it and I think you know this. Sluka is hands down the more valuable player, the more versatile player, the better runner, but as a passer def not..

Inaccurate on the W&M OC. Christian Taylor left for the Buffalo Bills in January. Mario Acitelli is now the OC. He coaches the OL and had been the Running Game Coordinator. After losing QB Coach and Passing Game Coordinator Matt Johns to New Mexico we hired Ted Hefter, a former Tribe QB from Dayton where he was QB Coach and Passing Game Coordinator.

Spiders have a backup, Camden Coleman that was 100 of 160 last year for 1100+ yards and 12 TDs as a freshman, while Wickersham was out injured. They split time a bit after Wickersham returned. They were trying to redshirt Coleman, but Wickersham and his backup went down vs Stoney Brook in first half and as things progressed, they had to burn the redshirt as they started four QBs in four games out of necessity. Last year's original backup has graduated, so Wickersham and Coleman appear to be the top guys.
Wickersham is a huge running threat and has fullback like size. He can throw it with touch as well. Coleman to me is a bigger threat with the deep ball but not as much of a run threat
At end of spring practice, it was announced the starter was still not determined and will be up for competition in fall camp. In short, the Spiders have Coleman as a second QB the article does not mention.

Graduation and a transfer took Spiders top three backs from last year so Spider RB development might well determine the starting QB if they need Wickersham as a run threat. I am not in the know, so all me guessing as to what might happen.

Don’t make me go Poffenberger on you again Muhawks 😂

Sluka is just a natural and the game comes easy to him, and that running ability that you summarized makes him a better passer as it opens up the field

I’ve always liked the Campbell quarterback, but in my opinion, he kind of took a step back last year, especially during the Delaware game where he looked barely average. Actually, I thought he was done and surprised to hear he was coming back.

Same thought on The longevity of Wilson at William and Mary, good grief he’s been there longer than Pocahontas

This is how it has gone for a decade as I am sure you are well aware. Villanova has a great year, gets overrated the next season, finishes .500, nobody believes in the re-stacked team, Villanova rockets up the rankings.

I think this year could be different with new eligibility/transfer rules compared to the Talley era, but I am personally tempering expectations for 3rd through 5th while acknowledging 7th through 9th is always a possibility.
