PL having OOC success like never before? Have to go back some years to do the math.
Regardless, I think the early mojo will continue a bit:

Crusaders will want to take their "ever so close" frustrations out on the next man up, who happens to be Eli. The Cross, 27-22

Leotards back in their own atmosphere will take care of the powder blues, as their offense begins to gel...Laughyette 21-16

Holy Hoyas! The Rocks keep rolling, 33-17

Gate still squeaking on the hinges and needs more oil. Don't see them swinging by the Quackers. You Pee 24-14

Cahill doesn't let his young charges feel too good about themselves after mild on the road upset. Hawks reminded that this was one of several they gave away last year and they create a "winning streak"! Lehigh over the Little Red 31-20.

No surprises from me...

HC over Yale - I guess this has the potential to be close. I'm not so sure.

Lehigh over Cornell - I'm supposed to be happy for the notion of a PL win over an out of conference foe. I'm finding it difficult.

Lafayette over Columbia - you'd think the Pards would be happy to get back to their regular level of competition. You'd think they'd be pissed from getting hosed by the good old boy ref crew down in NC. My only concern is will they be spent? They took HC to the wire last year and promptly got beat by Georgetown the following week. Could that happen again? Hope not.

Georgetown over Stonehill. Don't know a damn thing about Stonehill so I will rise the Georgetown wave.

And Penn over Colgate. Penn is always tough.

Stonehill is one of three non-Ivy schools left in the Northeast that has not scheduled a current or future FBS opponent (the other two are Georgetown and Lehigh). Given the NEC's aggressiveness on this, I would expect a guarantee game on their schedule by no later than 2025.

Any news on future Lehigh scheduling?

I spoke with some in the know at LU and supposedly we are to play Army next year or ‘ 25; as for any bigger “name” FBS schools, supposedly there are discussions with a few that are “academically “ focused, but with the new coach having just taken over, I sense that any games against an FBS school is likely 3-5 years out since a lot of schedules are already baked in. I think a school like Duke (especially after the famous basketball game of 2012), Wake Forest, where the HC is our former OC, and assoc HC was our HC, would be leading candidates. Georgia Tech might be another due to our strong recruiting presence in the Atlanta area. We shall see….

Lehigh needs to get back to competing for the league/a playoff bid before they try their luck at a P5/Top 60 or so FBS team. With that said, Georgia Tech would be awesome! That is one of the institutions I have wanted to visit for years! Plus, Bobby Dodd Stadium has a ton of historical significance! Wake Forest makes a lot of sense (Clawson/Higgins aren't going to do Lehigh dirty). Vanderbilt (I have never been to Nashville) and Northwestern (I love Chicago!) would perk my interest too. Naturally, I would like to see Lehigh play Rutgers again but there seems to be little interest in making that happen. UVA would be another good one! Pitt, Penn State, Syracuse, Maryland, NC State, Virginia Tech etc. should be avoided!

The Eastern MAC teams are also a great option! The PL owns Buffalo while Kent State, Akron, Ohio (Athens is spectacular!) all present fun little weekend gettaways. EMU, Miami (OH), Toledo, BGSU aren't THAT far either for the adventurous. Good recruiting grounds too!

I can't believe Lehigh hasn't played Temple. My Owls have already played Fordham, Bucknell, and Lafayette recently. They like hosting local/regional FCS teams which I support.

Hope Pards take great pride in showing up with GUSTO vs Duke. I was there with other fans as team boarded busses with a Durham County Sheriff deputy doing escort. Did not realize this but Bagnoli retired! Has heart issues and advised to retire from coaching, but seems to be doing OK since he has a supporting role within the program. I admired that he took on the Columbia job when he could have sailed on comfortably - this is one of the toughest coaching jobs in college football IMO. I would always like to see how someone like Saban would do, with all his coaching acumen, at Columbia. They got an FCS equivalent and he did pretty well. Destined for the CFB HOF for sure.

Holy Cross 27 Yale 17: The Crusaders catch a bit of a break by this being the Eli's first game. HC scores a late TD to seal the deal...
Lafayette 31 Columbia 17: Lafayette showed well last weekend in Durham. They shouldn't have too much trouble dispatching a lighter shade of blue...
Georgetown 34 Stonehill 21: The Hoyas seem to have some found some semblance of an offense. 3-0 seems within Georgetown's grasp....
Penn 24 Colgate 13: Even without game experience, I trust the Quakers more than the Raiders....
Lehigh 21 Cornell 17: Everyone picking Lehigh makes me a bit nervous. Before the season started I looked at this as a must win to show progress given Cornell's struggles. Now, taking down the Big Red could set the stage for a winning season...

Fully agree...even though I am picking us by a similar score. We certainly didn't play a smooth or error-free game against Merrimack. I also think Cahill will not let the win "get to their heads". There was plenty to highlight improvement needed on the game film. But, I do feel that as long was we have a plan to contain/control Wang, we have a good chance of winning. We moved the ball on them last year, and the offense should be better this year.

Overall, outside of HC and Fordham the skill player talent in the PL remains subpar. Lafayette might be the league's third best team and their offense is at best "below average"....

BTW I was cheering on the team outside Washington Duke Hotel last Saturday as they boarded busses for a mere two block trip with Durham County Sheriffs Dept escort with the stuffed leopard and Troxell came over to say hi! I had to miss this game as I was in VT and there was NO signal whatsoever. What was the theme of the game for the Pards? How'd they win it?

The last time Colgate struggled like this was during the doleful Ed Sweeney years.

Sweeney was fired after his third year, an 0-11 disaster that raised calls to drop the entire athletic program to Division III.

Freshmen are seeing an awful lot of action, which speaks volumes.

Having been a Colgate fan longer than many posters have been alive, to me the ominous sign is when we cannot compete with the Ivy schools.

I don't want to sound like some damn "booster", as I find such activity inimical to the philosophy which is the foundation of our conference.

Having said that, it appears that the retention of Dakosty, who was simply elevated to replace Hunt by an Athletic Director of questionable ability and judgment, may have been a major mistake.

I also have concerns regarding the competence of the staff.

Hell, the Colgate Sports Information Department does not seem to know if a football is inflated or stuffed any more.

We are now 0-3 and looking 0-4 squarely in the eye. I believe that we are looking at a two or three win season at best, and 1-10 or 0-11 are possibilities.

You would be pleased - ground game with Curtis at 145. Great defense. And DeNobile had a good day at office 17 of 24 for 140 no picks. Kicker missed a FG though.

Pards win 24-3. Could have easily been 31-3 but Troxell had QB take succesive knees on their one. Great sportmanship! Excellent win against Ivy. HUGE - did I say HUGE - game in Easton vs Monmouth next week for Leopards - to see exactly where Troxell has this team now. BTW I was cheering on the team outside Washington Duke Hotel last Saturday as they boarded busses for a mere two block trip with Durham County Sheriffs Dept escort with the stuffed leopard and Troxell came over to say hi! And Frank Tavani was in Durham too! Eli Steward was top receiver today for Leopards. Watch Eli - not the Yale mascot lol!

Exciting stuff. Great to see a resurgence in Easton. Looks like we have 3 legitimately good teams in the PL this year.

Feel bad for Schuster but it is hard to argue with results and youth. Curtis is shaping up to be a genuine stud. Don't think I saw that coming giving his size. Bigger test this week but I'm still picking the Pards. They didn't wilt under the pressure of Duke. I have to double check but I may not be picking against Lafayette until HC.

I know the Holy Cross fans don’t wanna jinx anything, but Sluka gives your boys a chance to win the national championship this year.

what that means is the rest of the team is good and Sluka is icing on the cake.

Defense was great - disrupted QB's rythem and hit him even after he released the ball. I do not think they gave up any big plays. Offense also had great rhythm - nice series of play calling by the OC. Even if a play failed, it was great to see some diversity and creativity. Garrett staff did not employ that approach consistently and non-existent under Frank most games. However Curtis running wild helped - notice he hits the hole quickly and the OL make sure those lanes are there. Have nightmares watching previous LC teams with a RB that would dance around in the backfield. WRs made some great athletic catches. QB looks solid but clearly has some learning to do in some situations. Appreciate that he does not chuck up balls under pressure.

whats up dude.. you can go back and look or take my word for it but I had several posts outlining how I thought Lafayette would make some noise this year and are a good team. The only thing anyone talked about was HC and Fordham- I was adamant The Pards could be good and are a tough out. With that said, yes next week is huge. NOT the team we want to be playing coming off a close but bad loss in a must win. A hungry and confident Lafayette team at their place where it can get loud and exciting with a very good D. I have a feeling Monmouth will have to try and "escape" this game with a win and I thought that since day 1. But now the game takes on even more meaning as a win for you would really catapult your season and a loss effectively ends ours..

Your OC as you prob know was on The MU staff for years. Also of note is the New Columbia Interim HC is oe of my best friends.. Tough start but they will battle on.

Thanks MUHawks. I think I saw that but waited to see how the first 3 games panned out. I went to Duke game and really impressed! These guys didnt back down. We had a couple LEAPING LEOPARDS that evening - one real, the other charged as one (unfairly). BTW who did that amazing leap on run play? Even Duke fans got a kick out of it. Anyways my niece and nephew both Hawks (grad both) and I recall you starting football like 30 years ago - wasnt your firsct HC Kevin Callaghan a former Pard or Pard coach? Anyways very prescient forecast and a cogent summary of this week! TJ DiMuzio was 8 years with the Hawks yes! And Mark Fabian was a Penn WR in college. I followed Al Bagnoli since he and the Leopards NEVER got along! Like we hated each other. Good luck to Mark. Jim Garrett was HC there for one year - 1985 - oh my! Read about that!! Jim father of John, former Pard coach.

Nope, he’s irrelevant. Trox has already built a “culture” and 13 games in, you can see the plan coming together and the tone he’s set for the program. Garrett had the team going nowhere.

One positive about Garrett is I thought he was a solid evaluator of talent, and at least a competent recruiter. He’s in one of those talent eval positions at FSU, and would probably find most success as a college scout for an NFL team. He is a smart and articulate guy, just a very middling football coach.

I felt like he knew the gravy train was ending and he mailed it in for the better part of his tenure. He fell back on "well we're building good men and that's the primary concern". No...it's not. When you hear about all of the behind the scenes work John is doing (full scholarship quota, shoring up his relationships with the administration, full time strength coach, building bridges with the alumni, etc.), that kind of work was never on Garrett's radar. Oh well. He's gone and I have almost exorcised his memory from my brain. Almost.

As was the case last year. Coach knows we won’t soon see another Sluka. His sort is usually a star midfielder on a national lacrosse champ or a high level FBS athlete (not necessarily QB).

HC offense is better this year and we’ll see some pretty large win margins as they angle for a seed.

Imperative HC gets the #4 seed then. It would be great to see one of the Dakotas or Montanas have to make the trek to Massachusetts in December. I think recent playoff performances helps HC, but we need to ask the question: Is a 10-1 HC team with FBS win over Army and close loss to Boston College enough for a top four seed?

Gg, I don't think questioning the competence of your own HC makes you sound like a damned booster, but instead, a typical PL fan. Every one of our schools has faced at least one truly horrific coach over the past 7/8 years. Some more than one. Maybe Colgate (although Hunt had his detractors too, particularly here) had been luckier than everyone else but yeah, we've all been there.

To go back to the "decline in message boards," I think the PL's many missteps since entering the scholarships era has kept fans from posting, and more importantly, following about their respective programs the way they once used to.

Needless to say, the situation could be a lot better.

I am sure that Fred Dunlap '50, still alive and residing right near campus, cannot be pleased, either. He worked so damned hard to make the program a jewel and Dick Biddle restored it to prominence.

Happy to see Holy Cross returning to power and Lafayette, Lehigh, Bucknell and Georgetown all showing a lot of life. The league is moving in the right direction.

They were unwatchable but do not forget Frank dragged us into the gutter: one win, two win seasons - I think we went three straight games being shutout (!!!), non-existent offense, defense needing to score to win games (true under Garrett too), and that famous exit interview after the 2016 Lehigh loss. Frank should have retired after the 2014 Yankee Stadium game and should have been fired after the 2012 season meltdown - writing was on the wall then. JC did not build us back-up - perhaps it's not his skill set. Maybe he would have succeeded had he been handed a team capable of winning 6-7 games per season. But whatever, that time is over. Attitude and demeanor seems different now even if we might not win 6-7 games, but we will soon.

Given the weakness of their FCS competition I don’t think so (even with large winning margins each FCS game).

I don’t think an Army win would be enough to offset that. (With two caveats: If army has a great season and/or we win by a wide margin.)

NY Crusader 2010

Definitely going to be tough to get a Top 4 seed. Very tough. We went UNDEFEATED with a win against an FBS bowl team last year and got the 8 seed.

Honestly, at this point, when it comes to ranking IMO right now you could pick out of a hat between Sac State, Montana State, Idaho, William & Mary, Holy Cross, Furman and Weber State. Personally, I'd rank Sac and Idaho ahead of us due to FBS win clout tokens. Damn, what a shame Matt had to step out of bounds!!

Lot's of games left to sort out those rankings. But I'm fairly certain Holy Cross will need to win out to earn a Top 4. 9-2 with an undefeated record against FCS gets us at least an 8 seed I think, especially if the Army game is competitive. I love the respect HC has been getting in the normally anti-New England, anti-PL/Ivy AGS Poll. I imagine this is a function of gaining the respect of the Dakota/Montana area voters due to our tight game v. SDSU last year.
