Was the 2007 first round the best ever in the history of FCS/1-AA?

Yes there were your typical blowouts you get in the first round (Delaware, Richmond, SIU), but then you have:

A. a blowout from the "underdog" against the 11-0 #2 seed.

B. 2 seeds fall (almost 3), both were 11-0xeekx

C. 3 games have multiple lead changes and are decided in the last 30 seconds (ASU, UNI, and Wofford). xthumbsupx

I jogged my memory here http://www.diaafootball.com/playoffs.html but couldn't find a year were I remembered this many "upsets" and close game in round one.

Thoughts?

If not the best, it has been one of the wildest.

today was a great day for FCS football... Most teams proved they belonged in the playoffs.

Never would have guessed the day would go this way.

Never would have guessed the day would go this way.

Both Gateway teams won today. That is a good day as far as I'm concerned.

1991 was pretty good:

http://www.fcspreview.com/playoffs/1991.html

Only two home teams lost, but you had:

Nevada 22, McNeese State 16
Youngstown State 17, Villanova 16
James Madison 42, Delaware 35 (2 OT)
Samford 29, New Hampshire 13
Eastern Kentucky 14, Appalachian State 3
Middle Tennessee State 20, Sam Houston State 19 (OT)
Northern Iowa 38, Weber State 21
Marshall 20, Western Illinois 17 (OT)

5 games decided by 7 points or less, 3 that went into OT, 1 of which was 2-OT.

There were some awesome games. Some of them should have been second round games but you have to play what is handed to you even in the first round. On the last day there will only be one left standing! It truly has been a year of parity where the rankings meant very little. Seems to be a national trend this year even in the FBS.

Good luck to all in the great eight.

Yes, most teams came out and played their best, and it showed on the field.

Reminds me a little bit of 1999:

N.C. A&T 24, Tennessee St. 10 (Nashville, Tenn. 10,736)
Youngstown St. 30, Montana 27 (Missoula, Mont. 17,261)
Troy 27, James Madison 7 (Troy, Ala. 17,102)
Florida A&M 44, Appalachian St. 29 (Boone, N.C. 6,837)
Hofstra 27, Lehigh 15 (Hempstead, N.Y. 6,770)
Illinois St. 56, Colgate 13 (Normal, Ill. 7,133)
Massachusetts 30, Furman 23 (ot) (Greenville, S.C. 7,215)
Ga. Southern 72, Northern Ariz. 29 (Statesboro, Ga. 7,140)

Tennessee State entered that year at 11-0, seeded #1 and pretty much everyone thought they were a paper tiger.

YSU beat Montana at home, Furman dropped a close one at home to UMASS, and FAMU upset ASU in Boone by a score that was shocking to most folks.
