In Ivy history there have been only three season ending 6-0 match ups. Penn/Cornell 1986, Yale/Harvard 1968, Dartmouth/Princeton 1965.

This will be the 4th and unlike 1968 there will be no tie.

On a side note even though Penn and Cornell matched up for the Ivy title in 1986, ESPN(it may have been PBS) televised Yale at Harvard, both of whom, I think, had losing records. Boy, were Penn and Cornell upset. :D

What I heard from one Yale employee is they are expecting 64,000 in the Bowl watching the game and an additional 30-40,000 in the parking lot tailgating.

In other words, if you're planning to go, get there early! Traffic on Rt. 34 will be backed up for miles!

That has never happened. Brown and Columbia have played in the final game every year since 1964. This year is the 18th time when one of them came in 0-6, but there have never been both at 0-6.

I read that the last sellout was the 1983 H-Y game, so it'd be great to see it filled for this one.

My father was at that game. To this day, he still considers the 29-29 tie as the worst loss in the Yale history.

I attended the Yale football banquet at the end of the '90 season. As Coach Cozza was reflecting on Yale's season that year (6-4) he said that every other year that Yale has to play at Harvard, the folks up there have to always bring up "that damn tie." Here it was 22 years after that infamous game he was still upset over it.....and I'm sure he STILL is after 39 years.

Boy, I wish my crew decided to have a reunion at this year's game instead of last year's. Playing for all the marbles in THE GAME -- it's going to be a classic.

I wish they'd show it on a station we get over here on the left coast. 2 years ago when it was on WGN that was great. This year I think you need to have a dish or live in New England. Bummer. I guess I'll be listening on WHRB.

With under four minutes to play, Yale wanted more. Dowling threw a screen pass to fullback Bob Levin who took it to the Harvard 14-yard line, but then fumbled. The Eli's sixth fumble of the game. Harvard's Steve Ranere recovered with 3:34 remaining, giving the Crimson the ball but hardly a chance, down by 16 points.

Champi did move Harvard to the Yale 38, where he faced third-and-18. Stepping up in the pocket, Champi was buried by two Yale linemen. But as he fell to the ground, the ball squirted out to his left where tackle Fritz Reed picked it up and rambled diagonally down field 25 yards to the Yale 15-yard line. "I think he was trying to lateral," recalled Reed, "and the ball came out on the ground. It was just lying there."

This should be a very good game. I've seen both first hand and would have to give the edge to Yale, but Harvard is quite capable of winning this one. Crimson will have to fill the box and dare the Eli to pass. OTOH, Harvard will have to go through the air, and key will be for Yale to pressure the Harvard QB. If it's Pizzotti, he can air it out. I thought the biggest play was Yale punting from their own endzone, against the wind, and the punt going only 15 yards. Harvard scored a TD from there. In a low scoring game giving up an easy TD makes a huge difference.

Edwards was flagged for a hold or something on the play and it was called back.

Irony is I played with Parsons in high school and Stanley Edwards (I think that was his name) went to ND of West Haven.

Then again, I was a bit sloshed by the 4th quarter, and my memory may be a bit rusty.

If I had been a little smarter I could actually tell you. The 1987 game was on TV and I recorded it. It took me a while after the loss to actually go back and look at it and when I did, someone, who shall remain nameless, had recorded over it. At first I figured no big deal since it was a loss, but it's kind of like the 1968 game. You know the outcome, but it's still fascinating to watch. The '87 game WAS a classic and Kelly Ryans finale. Now I'm sad I don't have it.

I was just checking out some of the H-Y comparable stats on the Harvard website. Yale is among the best at protecting the QB; Harvard is among the leader in sacks. Both teams are ranked among the best in turnover ratios, with Yale slightly ahead. Both teams have solid senior QBs. Yale is among the best in scoring defense and pass defense; Harvard tough against the run. Yale has only given up 20 points once all year, in the OT game against Penn. I just can't wait for this Game!:D

If you look closely, Yale is wearing gold pants. For a few years in the '50's Yale got away fron their tradtional blue and white and for some unknown reason decided to wear gold pants. I mean what kind of a team wears gold pants.

Well I'm sure the athletes love it, and the synthetic turf it came with... but honestly, I miss the mud. Ivy League football is supposed to be played in mud. I wonder whether the increased effectiveness of the running game in the Ivy league in the last decade is due in part to the schools getting new high-tech turf?

The bubble looks neat though-- i wish I could find a photo (they had one on gocrimson.com last year) -- it's like a huge inflatable raft or a giant marshmallow.

You are luckier than I am. I thought, because my son has DIRECTV that I would be able to watch at his house. Problem is, you need to get the HDTV package including the receiver which costs $100.

I wonder what the Yale Club of Phoenix, where I have never been, is doing?

FYI - SNY is available on DirecTV (ch. 624) with the Sports Pack! It won't be in HD, but that's how I'm watching it.

1985 had only about 57,000 fans. 1983 had 70,000+, so that must have been the last sellout.
