UNI will be at MSU this weekend, I havnt seen much about the Bears other then scores, looks like the can put up some points but also get scored on allot.

I think UNI will be focused after last weeks scare from YSU

I have no clue what to think. I think it's either a blowout by UNI or a really close game, depending on how UNI comes out to play. There's not doubt that MSU will be pumped up for this, this is our "National Championship" of sorts.

I'm not going to call this an upset, but I think MSU will be playing to redeem themselves after this last disasterous weekend. They'll be playing for pride at home.

I'm excited for this game. I'm coming down to Springfield for the first time and I know quite a few other Panther fans are as well. Hopefully there is a nice purple section down there.

With the close call last week, I expect the players to be focused and well prepared, and when that happens, UNI is pretty tough to beat.

THAT ^^^ might pose a problem. I have noticed that we are having a lot of trouble getting pressure on the oppositions QB without blitzing. I still think we are a far superior team but I definately don't want to get in a scoring match with them. I know their coaching staff (or at least the good ones from UNI) will have them ready.

Yeah, it seems we've been blitzing a lot less in order to have more guys back in zone. The dline hasn't been getting the pressure they used to.

Yes, I'd be quite surprised (barring injury) if he's not able to pick up 113 yards (currently sitting at 887 for the season) against a defense that had given up 300 rushing yards on average against conference opponents.

MSU will score and the MSU Defense will make the stops they have to make.....

UNI vs MSU should be a very exciting game..the earlier MSU can put points on the board the better....

If your basing your position on the WIU game, that was a strange game.....

Donaldson had 200+ yards by the 4th Quarter, yet MSU was still down by ONE touchdown with 10 minutes left in the game xeyebrowx

MSU just could'nt score in the redzone...nor can you stop a team ALL game long in the redzone...without scoring yourself.....that simple

I think they were basing their position on UNI vs. Western Illinois. We held Donaldson to less than 100 yards, and we ran ALL over their defense. UNI made running over a good WIU defense look amazingly easy.

So, if we can do that to a decent defense, we imagine it should be even easier for a bad defense.

UNI averages over 200 yards a game rushing with Lewis over 100 yds/game. The flipside is their rushing D only gives up 89 yards a game. Time for the Air Bear offense. You are in deep trouble.

Doug, relax, we were discussing some specific points relating to the Defense.

One: Ability of our Defensive Players...Stats given....

Two: Point was made about our inability to hold our opponent on 3rd down - Stats given

In fact the issue of # of yards we give up is misleading anyway....considering 500+ was given up to one team....and we still had opportunities to win that particular game..in the 4th qtr....

The real issue with our defense is NOT the 'Run Defense Stat'..its the Opponents 3rd Down conversion stat.....rated #6th xsmhx

If we can hold our Opponent 3rd down conversions to a minimum...who cares how many yards they run..If you dont have the ball you dont score...

Football is a simple game.... ;)

1.) Is it at all possible that our 3rd Down conversion numbers are so bad because our run defense is bad and gives up first downs on the ground?

2.) I don't care how close the WIU game was going into the fourth quarter, we still gave up a ton of yards. Have you considered the fact that if our run defense was better that we might have had the lead at that point?

Really this is a very interesting comment to me... A lot of fans don't like him? Wow that seems really harsh to not like a critical player on your team???

He was cocky and made some bonehead moves. Wish he didn't do what he did, but that said, a good amount of people didn't like him.

With UMass losing today, it's a possibility.

MSU has always had a reputation of being the dirtiest team in the Gateway. Players don't forget.
