PORTLAND, Ore. - No, they weren’t playing basketball.

Weber State beat Portland State 73-68 on Saturday night to set an NCAA all-division record for most points in a game.

The previous record for most points by two teams was 136, set in 1968 when North Park beat North Central 104-32 in a Division III game. The Division I record was 133, set in 2004 when San Jose State beat Rice 70-63...

The question is, should we have seen this coming? Both offenses were sputtering coming in to the game, but check out some records that were broken, at least on Portland State's side.

Most total combined points in a game...108 (PSU 63, Weber 45), 2001
Most touchdowns thrown in a game, Big Sky conference...7, Jamie Martin, Weber State 2000 (?)
Most points allowed by a Viking opponent, game...74, Weber State, 1966.

The common thread? Portland State and Weber State. Shootout city.

Someone should inform those teams that you are actually allowed to tackle the player with the ball. It's called defense... new concept, I know.

I guess this game doesn't count, or was this game before the NCAA?

I don't know how this game could've occurred with Weber State. I thought their defense was really good and their offense non-existent.

I saw the score of this game and I immediately looked to the end of the scoreline, expecting to see "4OT" or something written. I couldn't believe such a score could happen in regulation.
