All six ASUN Conference Football teams are back on the field Saturday highlighted by a pair of matchups between Central Arkansas-Kennesaw State and North Alabama-Jacksonville State.
UNA and JSU continue their long-standing rivalry as the cross-state foes meet for the 50th time on the gridiron. Saturday's game is played at Toyota Field, a minor league baseball stadium in Madison, Ala., and features single-directional play due to the dimensions of the ballpark

Montana Seeks Eighth-Straight Win Over Idaho -- Montana and Idaho battle for the “Little Brown Stein” this Saturday, with the Griz seeking to extend their win streak to eight games in the series that dates back to 1903 between the two football programs.
Idaho Fights for First Win Over Montana Since 1999 -- On the flip side, Idaho travels to Montana seeking its first win over the Griz since 1999 as they try to take the “Little Brown Stein” back to Moscow. The Vandals lead the overall series 55-30-2 however and are 25-16 in Missoula for the series.
Weber State Ranks First in Massey Rating -- Weber State leaped ahead to first in the Massey Rating this week, with the 5-0 Wildcats edging out Sacramento State by a decimal place. The Big Sky has five teams ranked in the Top 20 of the Massey Rating overall (WSU, SAC, UM, MSU, Idaho).
BIG SOUTH
Campbell and Gardner-Webb are 1-0 in Big South games following their respective triumphs last week. The Camels are now 3-1 all-time in Big South openers, and have started 1-0 for the third-straight time. The Runnin’ Bulldogs are now 10-11 in their all-time Big South openers, and have begun 1-0 for the first time since 2019. Campbell is seeking its third-straight 2-0 league start, while Gardner-Webb’s last 2-0 open in conference was in 2009.
Gardner-Webb’s passing offense set the Big South single-game record for highest completion percentage (based on a minimum 25 attempts) in this past Saturday’s win at Robert Morris. GWU’s passing accuracy of 85.2 percent on 23-of-27 passes bettered the old mark of 84.6 (22-of-26), which was established by Gardner-Webb vs. Point in the 2013 season.
Gardner-Webb’s 48-0 Big South-opening victory over Robert Morris last Saturday was its first shutout of a conference opponent since 2004, when the Runnin’ Bulldogs blanked Charleston Southern, 18-0 on Nov. 13. GWU’s 48-point margin of victory over the Colonials was also its largest in a league contest, and surpassed the program’s previous best of 46 points in a 46-0 victory over Charleston Southern in 2003. Gardner-Webb’s victory margin over RMU is tied for sixth-highest in a Big South game in league history.
Campbell TE Julian Hill owns career totals of 68 receptions for 901 yards with four touchdowns. He ranks third all-time in league history for most catches by a tight end, and needs 23 to move past Gardner-Webb’s Seth Cranfill (90) for second-place. Hill’s 901 career yards are third in the Big South record book among tight ends, and 10 shy of surpassing Coastal Carolina’s David Duran’s total of 910 for second.

CAA Football topped all conferences with six ranked teams in the latest Stats Perform and AFCA Coaches FCS Top 25 polls that were released on Monday.
TWO TOP 25 MATCHUPS HIGHLIGHT WEEK 7 SLATE: There are three matchups nationally in FCS football featuring a pair of Top 25 teams, and two of them are in the CAA. No. 14 Elon takes a fi ve-game winning streak into its contest at No. 25 Rhode Island, while No. 17 Villanova visits No. 21 Richmond. There are two other conference games on the slate as Monmouth, which has won four in a row, travels to Maine and UAlbany hosts Hampton. A pair of local rivalries round out the schedule as New Hampshire heads to Dartmouth and Stony Brook meets No. 22 Fordham.
DOMINANT IN NON-CONFERENCE PLAY: CAA teams have been dominant against FCS non-conference opponents over the past five years, winning a remarkable 76% of those games. The success has continued in 2022 as CAA teams are 18-4 (.818) against FCS opponents. The 18 wins and the .818 win percentage are the best of any FCS conference.
QUALITY QUARTERBACKS: CAA Football has featured some of the best quarterback play in FCS this season. The league has seven of the top 20 QB's in FCS in pass efficiency (VU's Connor Watkins, EU's Matthew McKay, UR's Reece Udinski, MU's Tony Muskett, UD's Nolan Henderson, UA's Reese Poffenbarger, and W&M's Darius Wilson). and six of the top 30 in passing yards (Udinski, McKay, Henderson, Poffenbarger, Muskett and URI's Kasim Hill). Udinski tops FCS in completion percentage (77%), Watkins leads the nation in yard per pass attempt (12.64), and Henderson is 3rd in TD passes (18).
IVY
Princeton and Brown kick off Week 5 of the Ivy League football season at 7 p.m. ET on Friday on ESPNU. Saturday’s league game features Columbia at Penn, which is set to begin at 1 p.m. ET.
Before fully shifting gears to league play, Harvard, Yale, Cornell and Dartmouth will look to close out non-conference play on a high note. The league collectively enters the weekend with a 16-4 (.800) non-conference record. Last weekend, Ivies went 4-0 opposite non-league opponents. Since 2010, Ivies own a mark of 174-110 (.613) in non-conference play.
Princeton jumped into the AFCA Coaches Poll rankings at the No. 23 spot. The 4-0 Tigers boast the top scoring defense in the nation, allowing just 9.8 points per game. Penn, which received votes in the poll, ranks ninth in scoring defense, permitting and average of 14.8 points.
MEAC
A Thursday night tilt in Durham, N.C., between Morgan State and North Carolina Central, will be televised live on ESPN2, kicking off a four-game slate for Week 7 of the 2022 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) football season.
Morgan State running back Alfonzo Graham, the reigning MEAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week, leads the MEAC and ranks eighth nationally in rushing with 108.4 yards per game. Morgan State, in its first season under head coach Damon Wilson, leads the all-time series 11-10 over the Eagles, even though North Carolina Central has won each of the last four meetings (including a 28-17 decision last season).
South Carolina State will look to bounce back following last week’s 20-14 loss to Florida A&M – despite two touchdown receptions from Shaquan Davis and two interceptions from BJ Davis – and the Bulldogs will return to Oliver C. Dawson Stadium to celebrate Homecoming. This match-up against the Dragons will mark the second of three straight home games for the defending MEAC and Cricket Celebration Bowl champions, and the Bulldogs will be in search of their first win since Sept. 10 (a 33-9 defeat of Bethune-Cookman).
MVFC
Nine MVFC teams rank in the Top 27 of the Sagarin football ratings, which includes seven of the Top 20, and four among the Top 10. The same nine MVFC schools rank in the Top 39 of the Massey FCS computer rankings. Notably, nine MVFC programs rank in the Top 17 of Massey's Strength of Schedule ratings, which includes South Dakota, which has the FCS' hardest SOS. The MVFC is the top-rated FCS league in the Sagarin, followed by the Big Sky, ASUN, Southern, and WAC.
For just the second time in FCS history, the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked teams will play one another in a regular-season game. Top-ranked NDSU entertains No. 2 SDSU in Fargo on Saturday. There have been just six 1 vs. 2 matchups in FCS history prior to this weekend. There have been seven 1 vs. 2 matchups (by seed) in the playoffs.
When South Dakota State and North Dakota State face off Saturday in Fargo, N.D., it will mark the 215th time two ranked Missouri Valley Football teams have played one another. In the first 214 such-meetings the home team is 123-90 and the higher-ranked team is 133-81. (Rankings are based on appearance in either the Stats Perform or AFCA poll; the numbers above also include one neutral site game.) The SDSU-NDSU matchup features teams that have played one another while both have been ranked 14-straight times (dating back to 2012).
NEC
Merrimack (4-2, 2-0 NEC) tallied 256 rushing yards — the most for a Northeast Conference (NEC) team against a Division I opponent this season — and improved to 2-0 in the NEC after running past Duquesne, 28-21, in Pittsburgh on Tuesday. The Warriors, who piled up the most yards on a ground since joining the Division I ranks in 2019, seek their first-ever 3-0 start to conference play when they host Wagner (0-5, 0-1 NEC) at 1 pm on ESPN3.
NEC preseason favorite and two-time defending champion Sacred Heart (3-2, 1-0 NEC) owns the third-longest home winning streak (12 games) and hosts Stonehill (3-0, 1-0 NEC), the newest member of the NEC, Saturday at 1 pm. Both teams are 1-0 in conference play. The Pioneers’ defense, which ranks 12th in the FCS, will go up against a Skyhawks’ offense that leads the NEC in scoring at 44.3 points per game.
Sacred Heart’s defense has been key in their 3-2 start, as they rank first in the FCS in passing yards allowed (98.2 per game), third in passes intercepted (9), 12th in total defense (297.6 yards per game), 12th in the FCS in points allowed per game (17.0) and 18th in red zone defense (0.688).
Saint Francis U (3-2, 2-0 NEC) seeks its first 3-0 start to NEC play since 2016 on Saturday when it heads to LIU (0-5, 0-1 NEC) for a 1 pm game.
OVC
Lindenwood senior quarterback Cade Brister ran for five touchdowns in a 52-49 win at Central Arkansas on October 8. That tied the OVC record for rushing touchdowns in a game, done by five other players, the last time coming in 2014.
Brister also threw for 413 yards in the win at Central Arkansas while UT Martin quarterback Dresser Winn passed for 441 yards in a win at Murray State. The OVC is the ONLY Conference to have two different quarterbacks pass for more than 400 yards or more in a game in 2022. Brister ranks third nationally in total offense (365.0 yards/game) while Winn is 11th (296.0 yards/game).
OVC teams have a winning record against fellow FCS non-conference opponents this season.
PATRIOT
HOLY CROSS AND FORDHAM CLIMB IN AFCA AND STATS PERFORM FCS TOP-25 POLLS -- Three-time defending champion Holy Cross climbed two spots in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll to rank No. 8 while moving up to No. 7 in the Stats Perform FCS Poll after a 57-0 win over Bucknell to improve to 6-0 for the first time since 1991. Fordham improved to 2-0 in League play with a 40-28 win at Lehigh. They slipped one spot to No. 17 in the FCS Coaches Poll and moved into the Stats Perform Poll at No. 22. This is the fifth consecutive week with two Patriot League teams in the rankings during the regular season.
RAMS’ KOKOSIOULIS CLOSING IN LEAGUE TOP-10 LIST -- Fordham Sr. WR Fotis Kokosioulis took over sole possession of sixth place with one touchdown reception vs. Georgetown on Oct. 1. His record-breaking performance of 320 receiving yards and four touchdowns at Ohio University helped him climb to into the Patriot League career touchdown receptions top-10. He leads the PL and the FCS with eight touchdown receptions through five games He also leads the FCS in receiving yards per game (128.3) and receptions per game (8.7).
Five Patriot League wide receivers rank among the FCS leaders in receiving yards per game, led by Fordham’s Kokosioulis (128.3), the nation’s leader in yards and touchdown receptions (8). The Rams’ Sr. WR MJ Wright is fifth with 101.9 ypg after posting a career-high 226 receiving yards at Lehigh. Holy Cross Jr. WR Jalen Coker recorded his career-high 166 yards in a win at Harvard and is now seventh in the FCS with 100.5 yards per game and fourth with seven TD receptions. Fordham Sr. WR Dequece Carter is 11th in the FCS averaging 94.7 ypg and Georgetown Gr. WR Joshua Tomas is 13th with 93.3 ypg and third with 8.2 receptions per game.
PFL
DAYTON SCORING STREAK ENDS -- With its shutout loss at Butler, Oct. 8, Dayton saw its consecutive game scoring streak end at 501 games. The Flyers streak dated back to Oct. 16, 1976, when they fell 9-0 to Marshall. The streak lasted 16,971 days and spanned the administrations of nine U.S. Presidents.
SAN DIEGO’S SCORING STREAK BECOMES PFL’S LONGEST -- With Dayton’s consecutive game scoring streak coming to an end, San Diego takes over as the longest scoring streak in the PFL. The Toreros have scored in 247 games, with their last shutout coming at the hands of Dayton during the 1999 season.
WILDCATS DO RUN RUN -- Davidson rushed for a FCS single-game best 498 yards against Butler, Oct. 1, it’s third 400-yard rushing day of 2022. The Wildcats topped their previous season best of 417 yards set against St. Andrews, Sept. 17. Davidson also amassed 403 yards against Barton, Sept. 10, and nearly hit the 400-yard mark with 396 yards against Presbyterian, Sept. 24. Those four games rank first, second, fourth, and fifth, respectively in the FCS this season. Only Gardner-Webb’s 412 yards against Limestone break up Davidson’s hold on the top five spots. Davidson is averaging an FCS best 363.7 rushing yards per game – 74.2 yards per game more than second-ranked Montana State.
HATTERS THROUGH THE AIR -- Meanwhile, Stetson enters Week 6 ranked No. 8 among FCS teams with 304.8 passing yards per game. The Hatters 444-yard performance against Louisiana Christian is the ninth-best passing performance in 2022 while its 384 yards against Concordia ranks 23rd.
SOCON
Furman welcomes Western Carolina on Saturday for the Ingles Southern Conference Game of the Week on select Nexstar affiliates, while nationally ranked Mercer and Chattanooga squads try to remain unbeaten in SoCon play and Wofford hosts in-state rival The Citadel.
Three SoCon squads are ranked in the top 15 in the latest national polls. Chattanooga is ranked No. 9 in the AFCA FCS Coaches’ Top 25 and No. 10 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25. Mercer is No. 11 in the coaches’ poll and No. 12 in the Stats Perform poll, while Samford, which is idle this weekend, is No. 15 in both polls. Furman is receiving votes in both polls.
Furman has held three of its four FCS opponents to fewer than 20 points this season and shares the FCS lead with 16 turnovers gained, with Kam Brinson sharing the FCS lead with three fumble recoveries. The Paladins downed The Citadel 21-10 last weekend, with Dominic Roberto running for 133 yards and two touchdowns and Braden Gilby recording 12 tackles, including three for lost yardage.
Western Carolina, which averages 33.7 points per game, was kept out of the end zone for the second time in three games last weekend, as it fell at Mercer, 49-6. Catamount kicker Richard McCollum is tied for 11th in the FCS with 1.50 field goals per game and is 10th with a .900 field goal percentage.
SOUTHLAND
UIW’s SCOTT NAMED FEDEX GROUND NATIONAL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK -- UIW quarterback Lindsey Scott, Jr. – a graduate student from Zachary, La. – had a first half for the FCS ages against Lamar, completing 23 of 26 (88.5 percent) pass attempts for 401 yards and seven touchdowns. The TD passes tied the FCS record for one half and matched the Cardinals’ mark for a game, and his passing efficiency (306.9) was the FCS seasonal high. He did not play in the second half.
NICHOLLS’ LASSEIGNE NAMED FEDEX GROUD NATIONAL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK -- • Nicholls kicker Gavin Lasseigne – a junior from Raceland, La. - kicked a career-high four field goals, including a 43-yarder as time expired to lift Nicholls past Houston Christian 19-17 for its first victory of the season. His career-long 52-yard field goal earlier in the fourth quarter gave the Colonels a 16-14 lead, but HCU went back in front on a field goal with 43 seconds left. Lasseigne accounted for 13 of the Colonels’ 19 points in the Southland matchup.
UIW CARDINALS’ SOARING OFFENSE -- The UIW Cardinals have remained near the top of the national scoring charts after scoring touchdowns on the first eight drives of the game en route to a 56-17 win over Lamar. This puts the Cardinals at 289 total points through five games for an average of 48.2 points. This is a jump of 0.7 points per game from last week.

The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Jackson State’s Shedeur Sanders, Florida A&M’s Isaiah Major along with Southern’s Joshua Griffin and Besean McCray its SWAC Football Players of the Week for their phenomenal performances during games played this past week of competition.
Jackson State currently sits at No. 8 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 poll.
Jackson State currently leads the SWAC in points allowed per game (9.8 ppg). The Tigers also rank 2nd in sacks per game (3.6 spg).
Jackson State currently leads the SWAC in points per game averaging 43.2 points per contest.

STEPHEN F. AUSTIN LEADS ASUN-WAC POWER RANKING -- Stephen F. Austin checked in at the top of the ASUN-WAC Power Ranking that was released on Oct. 10, posting a 0.8988 ranking to best ASUN leader Austin Peay (0.7000). The ASUN-WAC Power Ranking is calculated by bracketologist Warren Nolan utilizing a measure similar to the NCAA RPI to determine the recipient of the automatic bid from the WAC and ASUN for the FCS Playoffs. Countable Games include any scheduled contests against FCS teams eligible for the FCS Championship, any team that is reclassifying to FCS and is in the reclassification process, or any FBS or FBS reclassifying teams. Tarleton, Utah Tech, Sam Houston and Jacksonville State are ineligible for the 2022 FCS Playoffs due to reclassification.
TARLETON JUMPS INTO CONFERENCE LEAD WITH THRILLER AT SOUTHERN UTAH -- Tarleton won its third game in a row overall and first contest of the WAC schedule on Oct. 8, emerging from Southern Utah with a 42-40 win. The Texans built a 35-13 lead late in the fourth quarter before the host Thunderbirds stormed back to close the deficit to just two with under 30 seconds to play.
SFA DEFENDS HOME FIELD IN A SHOOTOUT WITH ACU -- In a game that counted as a nonconference matchup due to the second game of the year counting toward the WAC standings, Stephen F. Austin and Abilene Christian left it all on the field on Oct. 8 in Nacogdoches. The Lumberjacks turned back the Wildcats after the visitors twice tied the game in the second half to record the 41-38 win. Trae Self completed 21-of-33 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown for SFA, running for 31 yards and an additional score in the triumph. Jerrel Wimbley averaged 8.3 yards per carry on 12 attempts, gaining 99 yards and scoring a pair of touchdowns for the Lumberjacks. Xavier Gipson hauled in nine catches for 144 yards to lead all players in the game. Jermiah Dobbins ran for 166 yards and three touchdowns to bring home conference offensive player of the week accolades for ACU for the second straight week.

All six ASUN Conference Football teams are back on the field Saturday highlighted by a pair of matchups between Central Arkansas-Kennesaw State and North Alabama-Jacksonville State.
UNA and JSU continue their long-standing rivalry as the cross-state foes meet for the 50th time on the gridiron. Saturday's game is played at Toyota Field, a minor league baseball stadium in Madison, Ala., and features single-directional play due to the dimensions of the ballpark

Montana Seeks Eighth-Straight Win Over Idaho -- Montana and Idaho battle for the “Little Brown Stein” this Saturday, with the Griz seeking to extend their win streak to eight games in the series that dates back to 1903 between the two football programs.
Idaho Fights for First Win Over Montana Since 1999 -- On the flip side, Idaho travels to Montana seeking its first win over the Griz since 1999 as they try to take the “Little Brown Stein” back to Moscow. The Vandals lead the overall series 55-30-2 however and are 25-16 in Missoula for the series.
Weber State Ranks First in Massey Rating -- Weber State leaped ahead to first in the Massey Rating this week, with the 5-0 Wildcats edging out Sacramento State by a decimal place. The Big Sky has five teams ranked in the Top 20 of the Massey Rating overall (WSU, SAC, UM, MSU, Idaho).
BIG SOUTH
Campbell and Gardner-Webb are 1-0 in Big South games following their respective triumphs last week. The Camels are now 3-1 all-time in Big South openers, and have started 1-0 for the third-straight time. The Runnin’ Bulldogs are now 10-11 in their all-time Big South openers, and have begun 1-0 for the first time since 2019. Campbell is seeking its third-straight 2-0 league start, while Gardner-Webb’s last 2-0 open in conference was in 2009.
Gardner-Webb’s passing offense set the Big South single-game record for highest completion percentage (based on a minimum 25 attempts) in this past Saturday’s win at Robert Morris. GWU’s passing accuracy of 85.2 percent on 23-of-27 passes bettered the old mark of 84.6 (22-of-26), which was established by Gardner-Webb vs. Point in the 2013 season.
Gardner-Webb’s 48-0 Big South-opening victory over Robert Morris last Saturday was its first shutout of a conference opponent since 2004, when the Runnin’ Bulldogs blanked Charleston Southern, 18-0 on Nov. 13. GWU’s 48-point margin of victory over the Colonials was also its largest in a league contest, and surpassed the program’s previous best of 46 points in a 46-0 victory over Charleston Southern in 2003. Gardner-Webb’s victory margin over RMU is tied for sixth-highest in a Big South game in league history.
Campbell TE Julian Hill owns career totals of 68 receptions for 901 yards with four touchdowns. He ranks third all-time in league history for most catches by a tight end, and needs 23 to move past Gardner-Webb’s Seth Cranfill (90) for second-place. Hill’s 901 career yards are third in the Big South record book among tight ends, and 10 shy of surpassing Coastal Carolina’s David Duran’s total of 910 for second.
CAA
CAA Football topped all conferences with six ranked teams in the latest Stats Perform and AFCA Coaches FCS Top 25 polls that were released on Monday.
TWO TOP 25 MATCHUPS HIGHLIGHT WEEK 7 SLATE: There are three matchups nationally in FCS football featuring a pair of Top 25 teams, and two of them are in the CAA. No. 14 Elon takes a fi ve-game winning streak into its contest at No. 25 Rhode Island, while No. 17 Villanova visits No. 21 Richmond. There are two other conference games on the slate as Monmouth, which has won four in a row, travels to Maine and UAlbany hosts Hampton. A pair of local rivalries round out the schedule as New Hampshire heads to Dartmouth and Stony Brook meets No. 22 Fordham.
DOMINANT IN NON-CONFERENCE PLAY: CAA teams have been dominant against FCS non-conference opponents over the past five years, winning a remarkable 76% of those games. The success has continued in 2022 as CAA teams are 18-4 (.818) against FCS opponents. The 18 wins and the .818 win percentage are the best of any FCS conference.
QUALITY QUARTERBACKS: CAA Football has featured some of the best quarterback play in FCS this season. The league has seven of the top 20 QB's in FCS in pass efficiency (VU's Connor Watkins, EU's Matthew McKay, UR's Reece Udinski, MU's Tony Muskett, UD's Nolan Henderson, UA's Reese Poffenbarger, and W&M's Darius Wilson). and six of the top 30 in passing yards (Udinski, McKay, Henderson, Poffenbarger, Muskett and URI's Kasim Hill). Udinski tops FCS in completion percentage (77%), Watkins leads the nation in yard per pass attempt (12.64), and Henderson is 3rd in TD passes (18).
IVY
Princeton and Brown kick off Week 5 of the Ivy League football season at 7 p.m. ET on Friday on ESPNU. Saturday’s league game features Columbia at Penn, which is set to begin at 1 p.m. ET.
Before fully shifting gears to league play, Harvard, Yale, Cornell and Dartmouth will look to close out non-conference play on a high note. The league collectively enters the weekend with a 16-4 (.800) non-conference record. Last weekend, Ivies went 4-0 opposite non-league opponents. Since 2010, Ivies own a mark of 174-110 (.613) in non-conference play.
Princeton jumped into the AFCA Coaches Poll rankings at the No. 23 spot. The 4-0 Tigers boast the top scoring defense in the nation, allowing just 9.8 points per game. Penn, which received votes in the poll, ranks ninth in scoring defense, permitting and average of 14.8 points.
MEAC
A Thursday night tilt in Durham, N.C., between Morgan State and North Carolina Central, will be televised live on ESPN2, kicking off a four-game slate for Week 7 of the 2022 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) football season.
Morgan State running back Alfonzo Graham, the reigning MEAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week, leads the MEAC and ranks eighth nationally in rushing with 108.4 yards per game. Morgan State, in its first season under head coach Damon Wilson, leads the all-time series 11-10 over the Eagles, even though North Carolina Central has won each of the last four meetings (including a 28-17 decision last season).
South Carolina State will look to bounce back following last week’s 20-14 loss to Florida A&M – despite two touchdown receptions from Shaquan Davis and two interceptions from BJ Davis – and the Bulldogs will return to Oliver C. Dawson Stadium to celebrate Homecoming. This match-up against the Dragons will mark the second of three straight home games for the defending MEAC and Cricket Celebration Bowl champions, and the Bulldogs will be in search of their first win since Sept. 10 (a 33-9 defeat of Bethune-Cookman).
MVFC
Nine MVFC teams rank in the Top 27 of the Sagarin football ratings, which includes seven of the Top 20, and four among the Top 10. The same nine MVFC schools rank in the Top 39 of the Massey FCS computer rankings. Notably, nine MVFC programs rank in the Top 17 of Massey's Strength of Schedule ratings, which includes South Dakota, which has the FCS' hardest SOS. The MVFC is the top-rated FCS league in the Sagarin, followed by the Big Sky, ASUN, Southern, and WAC.
For just the second time in FCS history, the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked teams will play one another in a regular-season game. Top-ranked NDSU entertains No. 2 SDSU in Fargo on Saturday. There have been just six 1 vs. 2 matchups in FCS history prior to this weekend. There have been seven 1 vs. 2 matchups (by seed) in the playoffs.
When South Dakota State and North Dakota State face off Saturday in Fargo, N.D., it will mark the 215th time two ranked Missouri Valley Football teams have played one another. In the first 214 such-meetings the home team is 123-90 and the higher-ranked team is 133-81. (Rankings are based on appearance in either the Stats Perform or AFCA poll; the numbers above also include one neutral site game.) The SDSU-NDSU matchup features teams that have played one another while both have been ranked 14-straight times (dating back to 2012).
NEC
Merrimack (4-2, 2-0 NEC) tallied 256 rushing yards — the most for a Northeast Conference (NEC) team against a Division I opponent this season — and improved to 2-0 in the NEC after running past Duquesne, 28-21, in Pittsburgh on Tuesday. The Warriors, who piled up the most yards on a ground since joining the Division I ranks in 2019, seek their first-ever 3-0 start to conference play when they host Wagner (0-5, 0-1 NEC) at 1 pm on ESPN3.
NEC preseason favorite and two-time defending champion Sacred Heart (3-2, 1-0 NEC) owns the third-longest home winning streak (12 games) and hosts Stonehill (3-0, 1-0 NEC), the newest member of the NEC, Saturday at 1 pm. Both teams are 1-0 in conference play. The Pioneers’ defense, which ranks 12th in the FCS, will go up against a Skyhawks’ offense that leads the NEC in scoring at 44.3 points per game.
Sacred Heart’s defense has been key in their 3-2 start, as they rank first in the FCS in passing yards allowed (98.2 per game), third in passes intercepted (9), 12th in total defense (297.6 yards per game), 12th in the FCS in points allowed per game (17.0) and 18th in red zone defense (0.688).
Saint Francis U (3-2, 2-0 NEC) seeks its first 3-0 start to NEC play since 2016 on Saturday when it heads to LIU (0-5, 0-1 NEC) for a 1 pm game.
OVC
Lindenwood senior quarterback Cade Brister ran for five touchdowns in a 52-49 win at Central Arkansas on October 8. That tied the OVC record for rushing touchdowns in a game, done by five other players, the last time coming in 2014.
Brister also threw for 413 yards in the win at Central Arkansas while UT Martin quarterback Dresser Winn passed for 441 yards in a win at Murray State. The OVC is the ONLY Conference to have two different quarterbacks pass for more than 400 yards or more in a game in 2022. Brister ranks third nationally in total offense (365.0 yards/game) while Winn is 11th (296.0 yards/game).
OVC teams have a winning record against fellow FCS non-conference opponents this season.
PATRIOT
HOLY CROSS AND FORDHAM CLIMB IN AFCA AND STATS PERFORM FCS TOP-25 POLLS -- Three-time defending champion Holy Cross climbed two spots in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll to rank No. 8 while moving up to No. 7 in the Stats Perform FCS Poll after a 57-0 win over Bucknell to improve to 6-0 for the first time since 1991. Fordham improved to 2-0 in League play with a 40-28 win at Lehigh. They slipped one spot to No. 17 in the FCS Coaches Poll and moved into the Stats Perform Poll at No. 22. This is the fifth consecutive week with two Patriot League teams in the rankings during the regular season.
RAMS’ KOKOSIOULIS CLOSING IN LEAGUE TOP-10 LIST -- Fordham Sr. WR Fotis Kokosioulis took over sole possession of sixth place with one touchdown reception vs. Georgetown on Oct. 1. His record-breaking performance of 320 receiving yards and four touchdowns at Ohio University helped him climb to into the Patriot League career touchdown receptions top-10. He leads the PL and the FCS with eight touchdown receptions through five games He also leads the FCS in receiving yards per game (128.3) and receptions per game (8.7).
Five Patriot League wide receivers rank among the FCS leaders in receiving yards per game, led by Fordham’s Kokosioulis (128.3), the nation’s leader in yards and touchdown receptions (8). The Rams’ Sr. WR MJ Wright is fifth with 101.9 ypg after posting a career-high 226 receiving yards at Lehigh. Holy Cross Jr. WR Jalen Coker recorded his career-high 166 yards in a win at Harvard and is now seventh in the FCS with 100.5 yards per game and fourth with seven TD receptions. Fordham Sr. WR Dequece Carter is 11th in the FCS averaging 94.7 ypg and Georgetown Gr. WR Joshua Tomas is 13th with 93.3 ypg and third with 8.2 receptions per game.

DAYTON SCORING STREAK ENDS -- With its shutout loss at Butler, Oct. 8, Dayton saw its consecutive game scoring streak end at 501 games. The Flyers streak dated back to Oct. 16, 1976, when they fell 9-0 to Marshall. The streak lasted 16,971 days and spanned the administrations of nine U.S. Presidents.
SAN DIEGO’S SCORING STREAK BECOMES PFL’S LONGEST -- With Dayton’s consecutive game scoring streak coming to an end, San Diego takes over as the longest scoring streak in the PFL. The Toreros have scored in 247 games, with their last shutout coming at the hands of Dayton during the 1999 season.
WILDCATS DO RUN RUN -- Davidson rushed for a FCS single-game best 498 yards against Butler, Oct. 1, it’s third 400-yard rushing day of 2022. The Wildcats topped their previous season best of 417 yards set against St. Andrews, Sept. 17. Davidson also amassed 403 yards against Barton, Sept. 10, and nearly hit the 400-yard mark with 396 yards against Presbyterian, Sept. 24. Those four games rank first, second, fourth, and fifth, respectively in the FCS this season. Only Gardner-Webb’s 412 yards against Limestone break up Davidson’s hold on the top five spots. Davidson is averaging an FCS best 363.7 rushing yards per game – 74.2 yards per game more than second-ranked Montana State.
HATTERS THROUGH THE AIR -- Meanwhile, Stetson enters Week 6 ranked No. 8 among FCS teams with 304.8 passing yards per game. The Hatters 444-yard performance against Louisiana Christian is the ninth-best passing performance in 2022 while its 384 yards against Concordia ranks 23rd.
SOCON
Furman welcomes Western Carolina on Saturday for the Ingles Southern Conference Game of the Week on select Nexstar affiliates, while nationally ranked Mercer and Chattanooga squads try to remain unbeaten in SoCon play and Wofford hosts in-state rival The Citadel.
Three SoCon squads are ranked in the top 15 in the latest national polls. Chattanooga is ranked No. 9 in the AFCA FCS Coaches’ Top 25 and No. 10 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25. Mercer is No. 11 in the coaches’ poll and No. 12 in the Stats Perform poll, while Samford, which is idle this weekend, is No. 15 in both polls. Furman is receiving votes in both polls.
Furman has held three of its four FCS opponents to fewer than 20 points this season and shares the FCS lead with 16 turnovers gained, with Kam Brinson sharing the FCS lead with three fumble recoveries. The Paladins downed The Citadel 21-10 last weekend, with Dominic Roberto running for 133 yards and two touchdowns and Braden Gilby recording 12 tackles, including three for lost yardage.
Western Carolina, which averages 33.7 points per game, was kept out of the end zone for the second time in three games last weekend, as it fell at Mercer, 49-6. Catamount kicker Richard McCollum is tied for 11th in the FCS with 1.50 field goals per game and is 10th with a .900 field goal percentage.
SOUTHLAND
UIW’s SCOTT NAMED FEDEX GROUND NATIONAL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK -- UIW quarterback Lindsey Scott, Jr. – a graduate student from Zachary, La. – had a first half for the FCS ages against Lamar, completing 23 of 26 (88.5 percent) pass attempts for 401 yards and seven touchdowns. The TD passes tied the FCS record for one half and matched the Cardinals’ mark for a game, and his passing efficiency (306.9) was the FCS seasonal high. He did not play in the second half.
NICHOLLS’ LASSEIGNE NAMED FEDEX GROUD NATIONAL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK -- • Nicholls kicker Gavin Lasseigne – a junior from Raceland, La. - kicked a career-high four field goals, including a 43-yarder as time expired to lift Nicholls past Houston Christian 19-17 for its first victory of the season. His career-long 52-yard field goal earlier in the fourth quarter gave the Colonels a 16-14 lead, but HCU went back in front on a field goal with 43 seconds left. Lasseigne accounted for 13 of the Colonels’ 19 points in the Southland matchup.
UIW CARDINALS’ SOARING OFFENSE -- The UIW Cardinals have remained near the top of the national scoring charts after scoring touchdowns on the first eight drives of the game en route to a 56-17 win over Lamar. This puts the Cardinals at 289 total points through five games for an average of 48.2 points. This is a jump of 0.7 points per game from last week.
SWAC
The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Jackson State’s Shedeur Sanders, Florida A&M’s Isaiah Major along with Southern’s Joshua Griffin and Besean McCray its SWAC Football Players of the Week for their phenomenal performances during games played this past week of competition.
Jackson State currently sits at No. 8 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 poll.
Jackson State currently leads the SWAC in points allowed per game (9.8 ppg). The Tigers also rank 2nd in sacks per game (3.6 spg).
Jackson State currently leads the SWAC in points per game averaging 43.2 points per contest.
WAC
STEPHEN F. AUSTIN LEADS ASUN-WAC POWER RANKING -- Stephen F. Austin checked in at the top of the ASUN-WAC Power Ranking that was released on Oct. 10, posting a 0.8988 ranking to best ASUN leader Austin Peay (0.7000). The ASUN-WAC Power Ranking is calculated by bracketologist Warren Nolan utilizing a measure similar to the NCAA RPI to determine the recipient of the automatic bid from the WAC and ASUN for the FCS Playoffs. Countable Games include any scheduled contests against FCS teams eligible for the FCS Championship, any team that is reclassifying to FCS and is in the reclassification process, or any FBS or FBS reclassifying teams. Tarleton, Utah Tech, Sam Houston and Jacksonville State are ineligible for the 2022 FCS Playoffs due to reclassification.
TARLETON JUMPS INTO CONFERENCE LEAD WITH THRILLER AT SOUTHERN UTAH -- Tarleton won its third game in a row overall and first contest of the WAC schedule on Oct. 8, emerging from Southern Utah with a 42-40 win. The Texans built a 35-13 lead late in the fourth quarter before the host Thunderbirds stormed back to close the deficit to just two with under 30 seconds to play.
SFA DEFENDS HOME FIELD IN A SHOOTOUT WITH ACU -- In a game that counted as a nonconference matchup due to the second game of the year counting toward the WAC standings, Stephen F. Austin and Abilene Christian left it all on the field on Oct. 8 in Nacogdoches. The Lumberjacks turned back the Wildcats after the visitors twice tied the game in the second half to record the 41-38 win. Trae Self completed 21-of-33 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown for SFA, running for 31 yards and an additional score in the triumph. Jerrel Wimbley averaged 8.3 yards per carry on 12 attempts, gaining 99 yards and scoring a pair of touchdowns for the Lumberjacks. Xavier Gipson hauled in nine catches for 144 yards to lead all players in the game. Jermiah Dobbins ran for 166 yards and three touchdowns to bring home conference offensive player of the week accolades for ACU for the second straight week.
