Anyone know if there's a way to listen to JMU's broadcast for free? I mean, I don't have a good radio here to pick up WSVA and the only obviouis way to stream it is through JMU who apparently is requiring you to pay to do so. This is the first time I've been able to listen to a JMU game this season so only now am I discovering this.

Landers was scary good, again.

He broke 3 tackles (and not just weak arm tackles, they were on him) to turn a few yard loss into a like 4 yard game one play. He's just getting better and better. He can lay hits also, better than pretty much any QB I've seen. He was knocking around the CCU D. Wait till the end of the year...the kid looks to be unstoppable now that he's got some experience and confidence.

Just flew back in from the JMU-CCU game early this morning.
As "bad" as a game it was, I will admit it was quite eventful!

Several fights broke out, including a chick fight... from believe it or not... TWO JMU fans (I guess one was dating a CCU guy and was sticking up for him... who knows). Either way, there was some hair pullin, and punches thrown... (neither had good aim lol)

Then the soon to be famous fight between Chauncey and Duke Dog. I was hysterical. Chauncey went to go shake his hand and then Duke Dog starts acting tough and pushing him down... well needless to say, don't mess with our mascot because he pretty much kicked butt after that. Then Duke Dog hit police officers, was falling all over the place and pretty much made a FOOL of himself... then got arrested. :-D It was quite funny though overall. Chauncey didn't get in trouble because video's proved what really happened... but he did not come back for the second half because crazy JMU fans were making threats and what not. Well...for that 5 minute ordeal, no one was really watching the game around where we were... eesh

Anyways, I didn't get to meet anyone from here... THANKS guys for coming to say hello to me. xsmhx Overall, I had fun... even though our guys didn't play their umm... best.

GO CHANTS :-D

thats not very accurate regarding the Duke Dog. We have it on video. The Chicken went down and started taunting the JMU students. As he was leaving, the Duke Dog playfully kicked him in the rear(as in lightly). As the Duke Dog was walking away, the Chicken tackled the Duke Dog from behind, and things went to hell.

There are a couple of things you need to know about Duke Dog.

One, you never ever let him ride a motorcycle on the field when there are JMU players on that same field.

Two, Duke Dog is a badass and never does anything wrong.

our mascot was taken away because he inadvertently smacked a police officer in the face when they were holding him back. The Duke Dog was playing around by kicking Chauncey in the butt and then got tackled from behind, hit in the face (or mask), and when he tried to get up, he got pushed back down and hit some more until the cops came. There was no reason for Chauncey to act that way.

The one consistent thing I have heard was that Chauncy kicked the other mascot's butt. Atleast we won something last night. xnonono2x

I have heard anything from your guy's mascot was resisting arrest to what you say, an inadvertent hit on an officer.

Nah no offense... but that comment is completely BOGUS!
Chauncey went over to SHAKE HANDS with Duke dog... (he does it in good sportsmanship at EVERY GAME) Duke Dog, resisted and made fun of Chancey THEN kicked him (which if our mascot said he could FEEL the kick through all that padding... must have been a bit harder than a "light little kick in good fun." Then our mascot pushed him, duke dog fell tripping over his cape and our dude fell on top. Then got up... and walked away. He then came over to our section where our cheerleaders were... while duke dog was chasing after him... Throwin his hands all around, making a fool of himself... and then fell on his butt as the officers were trying to take care of the incident. I'm not sure if he meant to punch the officer or not, but he was completely moronic in any sense and deserved to lose his job as the JMU mascot. Either way though, it was a good laugh. And as far as video proof goes... the officials all saw it, blamed JMU dog and said Chauncey was not at fault... so, eh, GO CHAUNCEY!

I have not seen too many mentions of the rest of the story and what I think was the final straw that seems to have got the guy in the costume "fired" from his mascot job...about a quarter after BOTH mascots had finally been escorted from the field Duke Dog returned to the game walking along the season ticket holder's seats firing up the crowd, continues walking over to the JMU student's section, over to the fence behind the Coastal bench and gives a 2-hande middle-finger salute to the bench...he was quickly escorted out by security...he probably sealed his fate with that move.

Both mascots should share the blame for letting a little fun get out of hand but at least Chauncey knew at some point it was better to walk away...Duke Dog just couldn't let it go.

Can I ask where your seats were? Cause last time I checked your seats were all the way towards the other endzone...I was at the 45 in the front row. Unless Chauncey tripped twice that's ridiculous. I saw him push DD down again. If you didn't, I don't know what you were watching. "our dude fell on top" riiiight....and there was no push either... Did the guy playing Duke Dog deserve to be fired after the first incident? Yeah, definitely. Which is why he didn't care what he did afterward and flicked off the CCU bench later on.

There were video tapes to prove it! I was talking to our president about it and he saw the whole thing.... along with officers that I was speaking to since I know most of them. Video's don't lie.... fans do... I am really good friends with our mascot as well, and he told me everything (I believe what he says because he has very good character). He said he DID push the mascot but only after being pushed not once but twice by your mascot. He also said that though he did push him pretty hard, he did NOT mean to fall on top of him, but his push and that heavy head and loss of balance didn't help. No need to get an attitude, but I saw what people were saying on the JMU board and I think its crap lol. He deserved to be fired for taking things wayyy to far.

once again........we have the video. After all, we produced the game. I guess its word vs word, but the video shows the playful kick(oh no!, your guy "felt it"?)...the Chicken kicked it up a notch further, and then they were both idiots. I know where the CCU cheer team was, and thats pretty far away from the incident.... They were both dumb, and its kinda dumb to argue about it any further as I have seen MUCH worse at many schools.

From the jmu student newspaper (http://www.thebreeze.org/2007/9-24/op1.html) :

From cursing at the other team to throwing things at it, JMU students fall short in appropriately showing their enthusiasm at sports events. Saturday’s football game was no exception to this trend, and our dear Duke Dog was the culprit of a display of poor sportsmanship.

The scuffle began after Duke Dog refused a handshake from the Chanticleer and proceeded to swat at the Chanticleer once its back was turned.

Eventually the two were separated, but the Duke Dog followed the rooster. When he was approached by a police officer, he shoved him. Duke Dog was consequently escorted out of the stadium. About an hour later, Duke Dog reappeared, but a different person was clearly wearing the mascot outfit. After running around the stadium to high-five everyone, Duke Dog walked up to the Coastal Carolina football team and gave them the bird

his behavior toward Coastal Carolina’s mascot is shameful. The two that gave the stadium such a disgraceful display should be put in the dog house for misrepresenting and embarrassing JMU.

There was no reason for Chauncey to act that way.

Dude, I know the guy that wears the Chauncey suit most of the time. If it was him in that suit Saturday night, then he did not act that way unless he was provoked into acting that way first. This person DOES NOT run around starting fights. I've known him for about 2 or 3 years now...I think I know how he behaves in these situations.

I believe Katie knows him as well, and can probably attest to this fact along with me.

JMU2K_DukeDawg
September 24th, 2007, 09:34 AM
I was kinda hoping Katie would stop by our tailgate. We had tons of food and lots of friendly knowledgeable football fans.

Instead of a hot ex-cheerleader :D , we got an old lady in a neck brace doing the "talk to the hand" gesture to us as we welcomed her crowd and invited them over. :( Oh well... xcoolx

Other than that old bag, the CCU fans seemed friendly enough. As bad as the mascot thing was, it was just mascots. And while the flipping of the bird thing was absolutely not called for, you have to admit that whole tossle was some of the funniest stuff I've seen in a while between mascots.

I think the fact that the police got involved only made it worse. Reps from JMU and Coastal would have been better to stop it. The Harrisonburg and JMU police tend to think they are living in the West Bank, not Shenandoah Valley, and at times overreact. In the end, I'm glad no one was hurt, and I hope after a couple of weeks we can all have the good-natured spirit to look back and just laugh at ourselves over the stupidity of it all.

Best of luck to CCU in the rest of the year, it's a tough year losing so many players and playing such a tough schedule. I have always admired that about your program - scheduling tough games! xthumbsupx

04: If what Katie said is incorrect, then why was your mascot arrested? I had the video feed, but was still on the golf course when all that was taking place.

With all due respect, Bodoyle, WTF were you doing playing golf during the game? Obviously you're not the football fan of your school you portray yourself to be.

LOL. This was planned for months. And I was not playing, I was observing the CCU Men's Team. I wanted to see how well we would do after losing our 2-time 1st Team All American and top amateur in the country. I still caught the whole 2nd half and a bit of the 1st half. By the score, I didn't miss much.

And I am a football fan, don't you worry about that xnodx . I have gone to atleast 1 CCU game every year since they have started football. Make the 1,000 mile drive atleast 1x a year to see them since I graduated (2003).

Video evidence definitely backs up Duke Dog! I think the police officer was a bit biased in going after Duke Dog imstead of Chauncey. Does a friendly, joke kick deserve a tackle and shove back down on the ground? I do not think so.

Wait, you came all the way to Harrisonburg to watch....golf....instead of the football game? Are you shi*%tin me? xconfusedx xconfusedx xrolleyesx xrolleyesx Who gives a ***** about golf when it comes to football. I bet if you gave JMU fans a choice of watching the JMU football team in big game or the JMU golf team, 99%, no make that 99.9% would go to the football game. And playing golf is one thing. But watching it. Oh my god! I'd rather pick link out of my navel than watch golf. No matter how you try to justify it, no football fan of his school would be watching his school's golf team as opposed to being at the football game.

Coastal, he has no idea. Straight over his head.

BDK: No no no no no! You are completely wrong. xnonox xnonox

1) I live in Chicago.
2) The golf tournament was at Purdue Univeristy in Indiana, about 2 hours from my place. Where did you get the notion that the tournament was up in your neck of the woods?
3) CCU was playing FOOTBALL in Virginia, not golf.

If I was up in Va and both were going on at the same time, of course I would go watch the football.
