Is there a comeback in the Spiders?
They have had just one long run for offense... they arent getting much vs our D. Their freshman qb has two ints vs our secondary.... if that all changes they could... but unlike last year when they had the run going into the half... this year they have gotten nothing going as of yet.

UMass revamped DLine appears to be effective in the early going. Spiders are always dangerous with Tutt. However things are looking good for the Minutemen so far.

They need to switch Tutt back to QB for 2nd half it sounds like.

End of the 3rd QT... UMass up 16-6

quick question... does an int on a 2 pt conversion count toward int stats for the season?

So Tutt is now QB?
He just played qb for a couple running plays... heely(sp) is the qb for the spiders.

interception was brought back past the 50... sounded like baylark got a few on a sweep and broke the century mark... had to settle with a cujo field goal, seems like he is pretty comfortable, 2-2 today

Only the blocked XP was his only mistake of the day but he looks like a good kicker.

Another INT this time by brandon freeman... now this is int number 5 for the umass secondary.... any more questions where the best secondary is? This is also without Steve Costello who did play because of a one game suspention.

GAME OVER... UMASS 19 RICHMOND 6.... hell of a game for our D to start the season. 5 ints and very few passing yards again shows the strength of this team.

Came in injured... has been the last few weeks of camp but is still good enough to put up 129 yards on 29 carries...

Always nice to win on the road in the A10. UMass D seems to be the story here. Richmond will upset somebody's applecart this year, I'm just glad UMass got out of Richmond with the win. This game had me worried but the Umass veterans on D seemed to have put the clamps on the Spiders from the get go. In the A10 the best defenses seem to = the best teams and this performance is a good sign for UMass.

We played far from a good game today but did enough to win. We played without 6 starters and our backup rb went down after one carry. Most players should work their way back into the system over the next couple weeks... if we can get by Colgate next week we should be alright.

Heard the game online.Convincing win for the Minutmen, but I think Spiders are making a mistake not playing Tutt at QB.

UMass deserved to win. Richmond's young QBs made some bad throws. One of them actually threw up on the field while in the shotgun.

After watching the game there is no doubt in my mind Tutt needs to be at wideout. Only one other receiver can make anything happen with the ball. Both QBs will improve but there aren't any other wideouts. With Tutt under QB it would be a 9 or 10 man front by the defense on every play.

I hope everyone underestimates Richmond. They are a far bettet team than last year. Still not good enough to compete for the playoffs but you can see the talent of the young guys. Kind of like watching the JMU teams of 2001/2002.

Clawson wants to take Richomond in an entirely different direction than where they were in 2003 . It will take 2 more classes to get UR to the kind of offensive personnel that Clawson really wants (Keeler is still doing this at UD). This game is by no means an indication of where UR will be in the future or even where they will be later in the season. UR is in the toughest conference in the nation and progress should not be measured by W's and L's.

Just got back from the game.

The UMass defense played a dominating game. Four interceptions with another called back on a penalty. We got our hands on a couple of more, but did not come down with the ball. I think the Spiders only had four or five first downs in the first half.

Offense sputtered some, but Lawrence hurt a ankle on his first carry. He DNP the rest of the game. Baylark also looked under weather, but seemed to do better in the second half.

I'll take the win against the improved Spiders.

I'll put some images tonight on my blog, but I'm too tired to do any more of a writeup.

Just back from the game too. Umass looked tired in the second half and the third UR QB played well.

Hatchell and the D line played great!!! Day drives me crazy; but he looks like he's improved this season.

Overall, great effort by both teams; the UR fans around me were very impressed by the Umass team (speed & toughness).

Did Stoetzel play? He has played in every game in his career and he is a captain but he did not start. Hope he's okay.

Jason Hatchell looks to be a force to contend with.

Honestly, I'm taking a wait and see attitude. Beating UMass will be a tall order. I think we're up to it, but first we have to take care of business this week.
