View Full Version : Is William and Mary a top 25 team?

Beat VMI 63-16. I know it's VMI, but it's also 63-16xlolx

Beat Liberty in 2 OTs, shoulda beaten em sooner. Liberty was 2-0 coming into the game though, and misguided or not their fans were hoping for playoffs.

Only loss comes to Delaware, 49-31. UD is now 3-0 after crushing URI.

Is W&M top 25 or at least on the fringe?

I think we need to wait for one more game for the Tribe to answer that question...

Which game is that? Keeping it close vs. VT or beating Towson?

No they are not...yet

Towson, I would not read much into the VT game....

Probably both, actually. W&M is getting on my list of teams to watch in the coming weeks, but at this point I'd be hard-pressed to put them in the Top 25. It's gonna be a tough road to go down, with the CAA looking very strong this year, but we'll get a good idea of the Tribe over their next few. Who knows, they just might sneak in this week.

Fair enough. I think we can beat Towson. We can generally stop the pass, the run not so much.

Not yet, and not that it matters as unless W&M gives a bigger shock than Appy did, W&M is not going to beat VA Tech. The week after that against Towson will start to tell - maybe after that week, depending on what else happens elsewhere.

They are good...but not quite top 25 material in my book...now solid performances the next two weeks (close with VT and a solid win over Towson) and they will be in my top 25)

Question is...who else is top 25 material?

9 teams in my poll from last week lost today:
5 to FBS
3 to Ranked FCS
1 to unranked FCS

Huh? 2OT's at home against a team that beat the likes of Tusculum and Shippensburg and you want them in the top 25? Let me quote a line from the Breakfast Club "NOT EVEN CLOSE, BUD!!!"

Ask me again in about a month. In the meantime, if you need better teams, look west. Anywhere west of Williamsburg.

Tribe moves onto the "maybe" list. Continued defensive improvement will be needed.

I didn't say Top 20, but they way they're playing and the way their offense is clicking, they're at least 24/25.

W&M enters my poll this week at #25

I think we're going to have to see some good performances over the next couple games for the Tribe to see the top 25. Definitely one to watch. xthumbsupx

I've seen their offense. I've seen them pick apart our defense. They're good.

No not yet...have to see more than VMI and a Liberty OT....

if we have a respectable showing at Tech, and beat Towson, I think we move in.

No. VMI win is basically meaningless... Liberty in OT is not worthy by itself... there's nothing else on which to go. xconfusedx

Well you can look at it like this W&M beat VMI 63-16 at VMI while JMU won 45-17 against VMI at home... That could suggest the W&M offense is pretty damn good.

They have scored 142 points in 3 games. Sure the defense is lacking, but that shouldnt keep a team from the top 25 considering UNH has been in the top 10 for the better part of 3 years now without much of a defense.

As much as I'd like to show some "CAA Love" to our friends from the south, I didn't give 'em a sniff this week.

VMI and Liberty didn't wow me.

I had Villanova as my "last CAA Team in" this week.

Face it, there's no merit right now...... Plus there were really no significant losses in the Top 25 this week.... Only a swap with #17 E.Ill vs #18 Ill St. Other than that, all losses were either to FBS or higher ranked FCS opponents. I think Villanova deserves a crack this week though...But not W&M......

Not everyone has the same teams in the top 25 as the overall AGS poll. Some people could have had teams in the bottom 5 that didnt actually make the overall poll and those teams could have lost, such as Princeton, Liberty and Maine.

No, it means Coach Matthews is a nice guy and tried NOT to run up the score. Fourteen of VMI's 17 points came in the fourth quarter.

W&M has played a team with a good offense and lost big, a team with a decent offense and won in a scare, and a team with no offense and won big. You see a pattern here?

To answer the initial question - No.

W&M's offense is very good.. QB playing very well.. excellent WRs and an outstanding TE. W&M will score points on any FCS opponent and there is no doubt in my mind that their offense is playoff quality. Their defense.. is however another matter.

Only if Liberty is a top 25 team.
