7-0 Hens first Q on a spectacular defensive play. DB basically intecepted an option pitch and fell on it in the endzone. URI throws an INT on their first offensive play and then the fumble. WR Crosby for UD has TWO drops on third down. xmadx

URI showing they can throw the ball... they sure can't run it against the Hens so far.

URI has to punt. 1st and 10 for the Hens on their own 5. Third possession of the game... just don't throw to Crosby.

URI D looking tight and UD O looking lost.

URI gets 2 for a safety... intentional grounding in the EZ by Flacco. :(

Hens hold URI to three and out after getting the ball at the UD 48 after the free kick. Hens 1st and 10 on their 20.

Hens three and out.... URI three and out, punt to end the first Q. Neither offense can do anything. Hen D is absolutely crushing URI's misdirection play.

Hens will have the wind at their back for the second. 1st and 10 on their 20ish.

Hens finally moving the ball, but holding penalty brings back a 15 yard run for Cuff. Hens 1st and 20 on URI 45.

UGH, Cuff has a rare fumble on URI 5. Still 7-2, 9:34 to go in 2nd

Another VERY questionable pass interference call on the Hens, second one today. xmadx xnonono2x

TD Delaware. 14 - 2

Even still, I'm impressed with Rhody's D so far.

And I agree with you about those pass interference calls being questionable.

Cassidy (our QB) doesn't have a great arm, but I'm glad too see us coming out and at least trying to throw the ball.

Unbelievable defensive play that led to Delaware's 1st TD. Bonehead play call, though..

Hen offense back on track.... 21-2 Hens 1:53 to go in first half.

URI gets a good runback, then a 15 yard facemask on the Hens, but stalls at 45 yardline. Hens ball with 23 seconds to go.

Ram QB took an absolute beating in the first half. I'm not sure how he's standing.

HALFTIME 21-2 Hens. URI will get ball to start 3rd.

That's the beauty of this triple option offense -- the QB gets pounded on every single play.

The announcers on CN8 couldn't have said it any better. Something to the effect of:

Unless you're a Rhode Island fan or remember watching Oklahoma in the 1970's you probably haven't seen many of the offensive formations URI will use.

Hmmm... what might it mean if your offensive scheme is no longer utilyzed by any of your peers? As if our record in the last decade doesn't speak for itself.

Both defenses are playing well. Seems like the game is much closer than 21 - 2. I expected URI to be tough, but their defense is better than my expectations.

We will see it again in November in Annapolis.

Ram QB took an absolute beating in the first half. I'm not sure how he's standing.
Well he just laid down instead of getting hit last play... I guess the beating did have some effect. :p

URI goes for it on 4th and 10 at Hens 27... incomplete. Hens take over on downs.

Hens march straight down the field and go up 28-2... this one is done.

Only bad news is Cuff came off limping during that series.

Hens march straight down again... they look like the offense we thought we'd see from the start...

35-2 Hens, 3 minutes to go in the 3rd

Cuff sat out that possession, but it's only cramps... time of the month?

Hens TD called back on holding call... so they end up settling for a FG after the 10 yard penalty.

38-2 Hens, 12:11 to go. xthumbsupx

Rhody was overmatched plain and simple. Nice win, Hens and good luck the rest of the way.

Not taking anything away from Delaware, they're a fine team. But we just plain sucked! Let's tell it like it is. Stowers must go!

I thought your defense played well, especially in the 1st half. They shut down the running game pretty well. Fortunately, we have a passing game that we can rely on when the rushing attack stalls. Good luck to Rhode Island the rest of the way.

We knew going into the year that UD had plenty of talent on the offensive side of the ball.. the question was.. would the defense be improved enough to make the Hens contenders. After seeing this group for three games.. I would have to say that.. yes the 'D' is improved.. a lot.

This is by far the best the Hen's defense has looked in a long time.. UD completely shut down the URI offense and running game for three quarters. URI had only about 100 yrds of total offense after three quarters and the Rams never got near 'red zone' territory. URI posted most of their yardage in the fourth quarter and their lone TD in the final minute.. long after the game had been decided. This UD defense is far more athletic and physical than last year's woeful group. They now have DE's who can really put pressure on the QB and DT's who can stuff the run. Last year .. they had neither. If UD can avoid injuries to some key players.. this could be a very good year.

Very athletic D. That play for the Defensive touchdown. where
#9 tackeled the quarter back while knocking the ball out of the air, than get s up quick enough to score for the touchdown. Amazing. The Defense was outstanding. If they play like this every week and the offense plays solid I can see a win against Navy.

Congrats to UD. Looks like you got something going there...best of luck against the Navy.
