NAU needs to take advantage of those opportunities to beat a team with the talent of ASU.

AlphaSigMD

Overall ASU has to be pleased with the current situation because we have had tough time of it.

Personally, I think it was a mistake to start Elder, even though he did well last week. There is a reason that Armanti replaced him last year, and if Armanti is 95% ready to go...lenior rhyne is one thing, but a good FCS opponent is different. He's struggled with his passes, and even though he has had bad field position, his decision making has not been the best....throwing into triple coverage, missing open receivers. He's struggling the same way he did in the 2005 national championship game to an inferior opponent. Plain and simple, ASU is not the same team when Trey Elder is playing. He's a good backup, but i think we need to see a little bit of armanti in the 2nd half to put this team away.

I credit our defense with making a critical stand inside the 2 yardline, and our special teams with the blocked punt. Lets try to put a hurtin on them in the 2nd half.

I think the beginning of the game you could really see the difference between having Elder versus Armanti. But I think Elder started to play a little better. He seemed to be be able to make some throws, albeit he did make some bad decisions. We'll see if Armanti comes in, but I bet they stick with Elder. I guess we'll find out. here they go!!!

Elder has started 5 games in his career total i believe previous to this one.

That can't be used as an excuse. Everyone from App. has said the 2nd QB is just as good as the 1st team. No drop off. Why did ya'all say that?

I don't know, is it worth it? No one knows how bad Armanti is hurt, if he had been healthy he would have started. What happens if he comes in and gets hurt worse and misses some of the conference season? Ride Richardson and your D to the win. But we'll see if NAU has something to say instead.

I'm not saying they should have won. In fact, they should expect NOT to win if they go into the Red Zone that many times and come away with field goals or NO points.

Definitely a good D. But when you miss a 19 yard field goal and get another blocked, you need some work on special teams. Those six points would not have made a difference, but NAU made too many mistakes to beat a team as talented as ASU.

Maybe, maybe not. I just got back from the game. From what I could tell, the ASU special teams made the difference. NAU did have speed in the right places to match up with ASU's team speed. At times, it seemed like the teams were mirror images of each other (It's hard to play yosef.) (Ok, I will refrain from such poor humor for the rest of this post.)

I think NAU showed the FCS world how App might be beat. Like I said in an earlier post, IF a team can match up with App's team speed, it is possible. NAU had a good game plan, was well coached, had good speed in the right places, and made a real good game of it.

As far as whether Edwards would have done better than Elder - Perhaps. I thought Elder played a great game. I must agree with Steve Brown (ASU announcer), that while Elder was gaining 8 - 9 yards per carry, Edwards might have run for more. Elder had some perfect passes dropped by his usually sure handed receivers (hit them right in the hands).

One comment about the officiating. Has this crew actually seen a football game before? Judging from some of the calls, it sure did not look like it.

In any event, ASU won a tough game. NAU played well, showed good-sportsmanship, and gave ASU fits. I heard the ASU announcers comment that NAU was a "playoff" caliber team. I concur.
