Here's the final poll's article for your perusal: http://thefcswedge.com/ags-poll/ags-poll-final-2021-top-25-results/

Some pretty lazy voting at #2 IMO. Having watched my Bison play both of them there's no way I could rank Montana St in front of JMU regardless of Mellott's injury. Similarly, I didn't think EWU should have been pushed down out of the top 8 just because they lost in the 2nd round... kinda disappointing that all the semifinalists were in the top 4 and all the quarterfinalists were in the top 8 IMO. Also, raise your hand if you predicted more Ivy League teams finishing the season in the top 25 than CAA teams.

1 pt difference between #4 and #5 there is eerily similar to 1 pt difference between #2 and #3 this year.

Here was mine:

1: North Dakota State Bison
2: James Madison Dukes
3: Montana State Bobcats
4: Montana Grizzlies
5: South Dakota State Jackrabbits
6: Sam Houston Bearkats
7: Eastern Washington Eagles
8: East Tennessee State Buccaneers
9: Kennesaw State Owls
10: Villanova Wildcats
11: Incarnate Word Cardinals
12: Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks
13: Sac State Hornets

16: Southeastern Louisiana Lions
17: Dartmouth Big Green
18: South Dakota Coyotes
19: Stephen F Austin Lumberjacks
20: Harvard Crimson
21: Holy Cross Crusaders
22: UC Davis Aggies
23: Mercer Bears
24: Princeton Tigers
25: Monmouth Hawks

I kinda wanted to switch Montana State with Montana at #3 and #4 due to head-to-head but I used the Mellott factor (or lack thereof) in that game as my excuse not to even though I ranked Montana above SDSU essentially because they handled Montana St easily and SDSU lost to them. I'll admit my own pretzel logic is kind of icky there.

Looks that way in retrospect but at the time I didn't think that was so outrageous. Delaware also didn't hop over anyone in the final spring poll from the final regular season spring poll other than Weber St and that was definitely justified. Montana St had to hop over JMU in this one.

Yes, I chuckled when I saw Montana St over JMU, but I don’t really think it’s laziness but more voter demographics

Also Jackson St at 25 just ain’t necessary

Agreed on JSU but I had a real hard time finding someone for that 25th spot. I also didn't really think UNI with 6 losses should be a top 25 team. I think Mercer should've been in there... just because the committee snubbed them doesn't mean we have to. I put Monmouth in as my #25 but reluctantly at best... I guess you could make an argument for JSU over Monmouth.

I'd guess MSU and JMU were the consensus #2 and #3 in some order so tough for either to get much of a margin over the other. It appears at least 21 voters put Montana St above JMU which is pretty lazy IMO.

Really? They were suspect before their little game. But especially after getting taken to the woodshed by SC State. Their SOS was seriously bad. I gave them the benefit of the doubt until then.

I agree. Had them at 20 or something at the end of the regular season but in no way could justify leaving them in after the way they lost to SC State. Plus the fact a team JSU barely beat (Florida A&M) looked really bad in their playoff game.

Didn’t the fact that UNI lost their (Committee gift-wrapped) Playoff game to a Team that lost their next game to a Team that lost their next game to a Team that lost their next game convince you that everyone should just throw UNI’s 6-6 record out the window because they have an MVFC patch on their uniform?

Even the official Stats Perform poll, based upon such an impressive 0-1 Playoff run by UNI, moved them up from Unranked to #23.

No Team in FCS Football has the ability to & tradition of ‘failing up’ that the Panthers bring to the SubDivision.

Knowing that un frickin i would end up in this poll, i held a silent boycott and didnt vote

You mean the un frickin i team that held the Walter Payton Award winner and Eastern Washington to their lowest point total of the year, beat Sac State (at Sac State) handily, held Iowa State (FBS) to their 2nd lowest point total (behind Clemson), and beat semifinalist South Dakota State. That un frickin i? I think them ending up in this poll is probably not too criminal or egregious, and I would have loved to see who you had ahead of them in the bottom 5. That said, maybe someday they will put up the record that is actually indicative of how good they are rather than how inconsistent they can be.

You are making my point here, the whipping they took in Harrisonburger is distorting your perceptions

they were completely overwhelmed at JMU just like every other FCS team minus a few would of been

but forget it this is splitting hairs and really LK2 case to make if he chooses

JMU crushes ETSU if they had the chance

And, we shouldn’t ignore the SoCon’s VMI onside kicking for a chance to possess/win at the end of a playoff game at JMU about 9 months ago.

You need to update your calibrator. You’re still running 2016 software on there.

You left out Delaware on the CAA teams, que up the triggered gif. I think score was 22-3 JMU but I would say this is the same phenomena that keeps MVFC teams in close games with the Bison in regular season.

Ive watched a ton of Southland games and remember back in 2019 a great game between Nichols and SLA... so much talent on display and then Villanova heads into Hammond and gets beat. Cole Kelly played too but was not the starter but looked good, You could see they had the it factor

fast forward to Game one spring season SLU at Sam Houston the eventual champion, a great game it was with Sammy pulling it out but SLA looked really good. I know their Defense is the Waterloo. Should of been same team this fall carried over from spring. They absolutely belonged in playoffs

they lost to a very good Incarnate Ward team and a good Nichols State team. Southland top teams are pretty talented when they have the ball and fun to watch.

It wasn’t just that loss to me. Their last 4 regular season games they limped by McNeese, lost to UIW, blew out Northwestern State, and lost to Nicholls. The loss to JMU just removed any benefit of the doubt I might’ve given their performance coming down the stretch.

If you can make an argument for Jackson State over Monmouth, you can make a massive case for South Carolina State over Jackson State.

The Most Significant Win: Montana State Bobcats
The Most Significant Loss: Jackson State Tigers

Note that Montana State is listed as the most significant win because they moved up 5 spots for me as a result of the playoffs (it was 6 spots before the championship game showed them to deserve dropping behind JMU). And I had overrated Jackson State (they were as high as 16 in my final regular season poll, dropped behind some first round playoff winners to 19 in my tracking then got curb-stomped by a team that had never made it into my top 40) so they had the most significant loss.

FWIW, UNI was 26 and Monmouth 27.

If you can make an argument for Jackson State over Monmouth, you can make a massive case for South Carolina State over Jackson State.
I try to avoid too much recency bias (which is why I kinda cringe seeing the finalists as the top 2, all the semifinalists as the top 4, and all the quarterfinalists as the top 8). You can make an argument for SCSU over Jackson St based on the CB but SCSU also lost Alabama A&M (who JSU obliterated), got throttled by FAMU (who JSU beat), and lost to a 5-6 NC A&T by multiple scores. They also have nothing for quality wins outside of JSU. Beating JSU handily in the CB wasn't enough for me to overlook the rest of that. I didn't think either should be ranked but if I was to rank only one it would've been JSU comparing the body of work for both teams.

Southeastern Louisiana was the 2nd best team in the 5th Best Conference. JMU dominated them more than any opponent since Week 1 vs Morehead St. Ranking them 16th was probably too generous. I gave them too much credit for beating the consensus worst team in round 1 of the 2021 FCS playoffs.

Agreed. JMU certainly appeared stronger than MSU. They got my #2 vote.

They could have been #25 in hindsight when I was flipping back and forth on Jackson State. One data point. They also lost to Jacksonville State and didn't beat anyone ranked. The only really impressive thing this season was almost beat SHSU. Maybe more a case of bumping UIW too much when they could have been 15. As I said, low on the whole conference.

UC-Davis at least counteracts its bad loss by beating Tulsa and a road win vs. Weber is still more impressive than SFA's whole schedule.
