How in the **** can NDSU add 31 athletes? I know some could be walk ons or preferred walk ons but Jesus Christ it’s a 63 scholarship limit.

FCS can split scholarships...maybe they're all just getting like 1/4 scholarship for now.

It’s 63 equivalencies, 85 total. It’s easy to get to 31 if you have a large senior class and/or lose some to the portal or early departure.

I think they're anticipating a few shoes to drop in terms of roster attrition once this season is over. They only had about 10 guys go through Senior Day recognition meaning the other 10 or so seniors on the roster are planning to use their free COVID year and come back next year (maybe with NDSU or elsewhere). They also have 114 players on the roster right now so there's no way they can add 31 incoming freshmen while staying under the max roster size without some attrition.

Not a UNI fan but I know McElvain won a QB battle prior the 2019 season and put together a pretty good season both throwing and running. He pretty much was their offense as their run game as anemic and his best receiver Isaiah Weston was injured off and on. Led them to the quarterfinals that fall. Then this past spring it seemed like he took a step backwards... from what I saw he looked uncomfortable throwing from the pocket and had accuracy issues. He retained the starting position heading into this fall and led them to a nice showing vs Iowa St but was benched the next week at Sac St for Theo Day. He entered the transfer portal shortly thereafter which I think kinda left a bad taste in UNI fans mouths. Had he stuck around he likely would've had a chance to play in the playoffs vs EWU when Day got hurt.

So bottom line is I think he's a solid FCS QB who has above average mobility but below average accuracy and throwing ability.

Thanks for that info. UCA lost Breylin Smith to injury and he likely isn't coming back anyway. Two of our QBs transferred out and left us ONE QB...a freshman...who is really talented but zero experience in college. Hope to see another qb I believe from Texas sign in February but we'll see. Looks like coach stocked up on defense though.

RichRod only signed 3 guys today. I'm hoping that's due to only being here 2 weeks and not having a full staff yet. But JSU never snagged a lot of guys at early signing anyway. RichRod said they are shopping the transfer portal. Maybe we can get Bo Nix. :D

SLU anounced 11 signees on Wednesday (8 HS, 3 JC), and will announce several FBS/FCS transfers (already committed) at a later date. I feel like we addressed immediate needs on defense, in a big way, especially up front; landed speed at WR and RB and a good looking high school offensive tackle with upside.

First, just because a kid signs doesn't mean he actually shows up or is ever on the roster. Seems Like there's always a couple that never show up come fall camp.

Second, we are expecting at least 10 seniors to leave plus who knows how many transfers or kids leaving for any number of reasons.

Third, 63 scholarships can be divided up amongst 85 players but a school is allowed up to I believe 125 players on a roster.

I'd be shocked if all of these kids actually show up next summer. It's by far one of our biggest signing classes ever.

We've got to get better on defense. Granted, we've had terrible luck with injuries since 2019 but we've got to upgrade our talent level on defense to get past the second/third round of the playoffs — I think we've done that with this class, and last year's class. We'll get some injured defensive backs back healthy and hopefully look a lot different in 2022.

Not a bad recruiting class for St Thomas I’d say. It’s no Jackson State by any means but for a Non Scholly program going into its second year at FBS I’d give that a solid 7/10.

ETSU doesn't have any listed for now. Maybe later or tomorrow.

ETSU announced 1…and ONLY 1 yesterday…and only via Twitter…

St Thomas won't be you average non-scholly team in a few years. They have deep pockets, and were kicked out of their last conference for being too good. Will history repeat itself?

Unless they start offering scholarships I see being a San Diego type team as their ceiling. Perennial Pioneer League contender with the occasional fringe top 25 caliber team that's capable of winning a 1st round playoff game with the right matchup. San Diego probably has even deeper pockets than UST.

Perennial Pioneer League contender with the occasional fringe top 25 caliber team that's capable of beating a Big Sky Team in a 1st round playoff game pretty much any year. San Diego probably has even deeper pockets than UST.

I can see them as more sports focused with their money than San Diego. The non-scholly route is probably testing the waters. They are a team to watch in the future, and the St Thomas mafia ;)

McNeese (during the time we were still without a head coach) signed four, two high schoolers and two transfers. The plan all along was to wait until a new coach was hired and after evaluation of current players and attrition sign players in February from high schoolers who are still available and portal transfers:

The two high school players are local signees from Lake Charles College Prep – (1) offensive lineman Jalyn Easton and (2) defensive back Joe Ward. Also signing with the Cowboys was (3) Colorado State running back Marcus McElroy Jr. and (4) linebacker Jayce Bludau out of Kilgore Community College.
